Saturday morning cartoons: Sam Presti talks about the draft

by Royce Young on May 23, 2009 at 7:30 am 18 Comments

You’ve got to love Sam’s high-swoop Conan O’Brien-ish hairdo. He looks sharp. But he is pretty boring on the mic. He’s got his catchphrases and his catchwords that’s he likes. “Excited,” “Good fit for our organization,” “Opportunity” and “Do our work.” But all that aside, I freaking love Sam Presti. He’s so slick, so smart and so… smart looking. He just makes you feel like he knows what he’s doing. Well, that and the fact that he actually does know what he’s doing.

@ATR
Amazing what you see in Chris Paul when he's not on your team. He was a near sports god here three years ago, but after four games against the Hornets this year, I really couldn't stand him. He whined, flopped and over-exaggerated everything. I could definitely can see why someone would hate him.

Wondering what your perception of Chris Paul was in the playoffs. I live in Denver now and watched the playoff games. I know that there has to be some supporters or Chris on this board. I was very disappointed in his actions. One sportscaster even referred to Paul as the 'best flopping american in the game'. I couldn't help but agree with that analysis. I lost alot of respect for Chris Paul as a basketball player during that series. Not because of his talent. He is obviously a very talented basketball player. But he looks constantly to the refs to bail him out.

Now I am watching Kobe and the "neutral" announcing and officiating. What a joke! I have always defended the NBA and the players in it. It has blown me away to watch these last series. Disappointing in a way. But then you see Lebron nail a last second three and you fall in love with the whole thing again! Damn those F--ers for making me love this game no matter how many people give it a bad name

Seems like the safe pick and to me the expected pick is james harden. I could handle that pick, not exciting, but something that makes sense. I was there the year that Sene was picked. I remember thinking, "Some dumbass is gonna pick that tall project. Sucks to be that team!!!" Then I remember thinking, "HOLY SH$T, we aren't going to pick him are we! OH God we are, oh f-er, oh sh-t, oh -f-er." That would be my reaction to Thabeet.
I am hoping for Harden, or some off the wall trade that no one expected. I am almost expecting it from Sam

Ha! I love his "politician speak". Ping pong balls were shuffled. Envelopes were opened. Athletes were evaluated.

@Joe
"Boy, is Presti the master of not answering questions or what?"

yeah, no kidding. Which is why I usually don't bother to watch (or listen) to interviews with him. The only interesting thing is noting his 'ticks', if you will -- stroking his hair, adjusting his glasses, saying "Sure" after each question is asked before he begins the answer, etc.

Of course, if you want exciting, you can have Mark Cuban (and please keep him!)

Another one.... maybe:

Not sure if it's really him -- could be...

Boy, is Presti the master of not answering questions or what? He seldom answers anything. He talks all around an answer and then sort of uses some cliche language and then smiles at the camera.

@Vega

agreed - I've seen Hill play - White is better (already) . . .

@Bernard
Okafor is the only one in that group that we could have a remote chance of getting. The deal would probably involve Collison, Watson, and a pick.

Vega :@dj

There is no way that Bynum or Bogut will be traded, and Okafor probably isn’t going anywhere either.

If Presti can land one of those three without breaking up the core, I am going to buy a thunder jersey with Presti's name on the back.

Just read Chad Ford's article on Jordan Hill. He thinks that we might take him, but I just don't see it. We really don't need another power forward.

plugging in player's names yields this one:

Looks legit.

Oops, it cut off the URL. Well, you can see for yourself at:

Also, via Kevin's page, we find out that Thabo twits too:

We're going to have to compile a list, methinks.

KD's new twitter background is pretty decent:

I agree, but that's the caliber of center I'd be looking for in upgrade for Krstic.

Actually, I'm wondering less about the #3 pick than I am about the #25 pick. I'm sure James Harden is a lock, unless the Grizzlies insanely pass on Ricky Rubio at #2. But what about #25? Sam Young? Another backup PG? Package in a trade? No idea. Too many variables. Which pick is available at #25? What are the team needs? Is Serge Ibaka ready or not? What about DJ White? Is Livingston our backup pg? Is Krstic a legit starting center? Is there a better center available (eg Bynam, Bogut, Okafur, etc)?

Watching that makes me feel like Henry Abbot from Wednesday's bolts.
