Thunder signs Harden, Mullens and Ibaka

by Royce Young on July 11, 2009 at 1:46 pm 15 Comments

Press release from the official site:

The Oklahoma City Thunder have signed guard James Harden, center Byron Mullens and forward Serge Ibaka to contracts, it was announced today by Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti. Per team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

As far as Ibaka’s deal goes, according the story we had earlier this week, it looks like a four-year, ballpark $4 million deal (around $1M per).

Joe :Watching GSW/Sacto….man, Curry is a PLAYER! He’s still a rook, and playing against a lot of future D-leaguers, but you can just tell, he’s got it….

Cpt. C-Note :Curry is calm, quick, and has the B-ball IQ of a vet ALREADY! G-State has got themselves a real player with this kid here.

He struggled in the 1st half - but he came alive in the second half - What I like about his game is that he can get by people with the pump fake and the drive - and he can get to the foul line - I still want to see him pass more when in traffic - right now I guess he's trying to show Gottlieb & co that he can score inside . . .

Per the standard rules on 1st round pick contracts the team will have an option on the 3rd and 4th years of Ibaka's deal

(Unless there is something unusual for siging a year later which I don't think there is. I know they could do whatever want after 3 years of being unsigned. But if they state that then I don't think you can do what you want after 1.)

Harden and Ibaka are definately going to contribute this season. Hopefully they didnt spend too much on Mullens as he has alot of room to improve if he wants to play in the NBA, as well as alot of growing up to do. I dont want to jinx Harden, but I have a feeling he will be a big time player, filling the gap in our starting lineup. Now if we can dish Weaver for someone that doesn't make me cringe everytime he touches the ball, I'd be alot happier.

Serge Ibaka for 4 years at $1 mil per could be the greatest deal ever!!!

I'm glad he's on the team. He didn't need to spend any more time in Spain.

Granted, it was summer league, but I feel like I saw him do enough this week to definitely make an impact on the Thunder this year.

Definitely looking forward to seeing Serge this year!
