I must admit, this game was kind of boring. It was at like two in the afternoon, nobody was there and it was between two bad teams. But it was just a really good game. Two great scorers went head-to-head as Kevin Durant scored 33 and Kevin Martin had 37 for the Kings. Russell Westbrook got to the line 22 times as he scored 34, assisted eight times and had six rebounds. Oh, and Uncle Jeff tossed in 28 and 13.
But Jeff Green’s best play came on a missed free throw late in the fourth quarter. For the first time in my life, I saw a team execute the miss-the-free-throw-and-get-it-back-to-score play perfectly. OKC was down three and Sacto fouled Green with two seconds left. He made the first and then tossed up a purposeful brick, it came right back to him and he banked home the game typing shot, forcing overtime. I was so shocked I didn’t even cheer because that never works. Ever.
The Thunder played terrible in overtime, but this game was great because it came out of nowhere with the dull crowd, and the disinterest of everyone. It had a bunch of offense, great scoring performances and a play I’d never seen work. Too bad we lost.
