Merry Christmas from Daily Thunder

by Royce Young on December 25, 2009 at 8:00 am 22 Comments

(There is a lot of good basketball on today, so consider this an open thread if you’d like to stop by and chat a bit. Or to talk about the presents you got or how much you hate your extended family. It’s all fair game.)

First off, thank you all so much for your support of this here site. I truly appreciate it. You all have made this place what it is – a great place to come and talk about our favorite team. Merry Christmas and go Thunder!

@Brett

I also got this. I tore through about half of in on a plane ride, and I highly recommend this book. Lots of interesting stuff in there and even if you don't agree with Simmons' conclusions (I don't, surprise), it's still very good.

I don't know what my favorite gift was.. Clapton/Beck tickets at the garden, or the Thunder stealing one from the Suns....

With the weather I suspect tomorrow will be the emptiest game of the season. You really shouldn't have a problem parking close to the arena and getting in quickly. Hopefully the parking lots are cleared out...

Hope everyone is safe and warm today. I spent the morning shoveling snow, which is way more exhausting than I expected! Just watched the end of the Miami/ Knicks game, and am looking forward to more fun NBA basketball! Merry Christmas, everyone, and Go Thunder!

I was stuck at my BBQ shop for 4 hours after we closed, with one of our BEK delivery drivers.(His semi was stuck next door at Johnny's Hamburgers.) I watched car after car get stuck in our parking lot, and welcomed those stranded folks,(4 in all), in for some ribs, brisket and Tecate. Some walked back home, with their new bounty of "after hours" BBQ, as others waited for their snowy rescuers to appear.
My brother and one of his co-workers(Big props to Seven) came to save us and take us to our collective Christmas destinations. We drove though literally hundreds of stranded cars and trucks in all sorts of apocalyptic-style collisions and calamity.(It was like that final scene in Resident Evil when the lead chick is downtown with destruction in ALL directions.)It took us 2 hours to get from Britton and N.May to Memorial and Eastern. We had to dig a Ford 4X4 out of 4 feet of snow, or we could have been in REAL trouble!! Survivor time, baby!!
Meanwhile, my Wife and 22-month-old baby girl were trapped at my home in Bethany w/o power until her dad came to get them over to his home in Warr Acers. It was sad not being with them, but reassuring that they were safe and with family.
I was taken to my Mom's in Edmond to chill with her, my bro, and my Grandmother. We told tales of our travels, as we sipped our festive drinks and ate smoked ham and turkey sandwiches...and gave thanks for each other and prayed for those who were left in The Great Blizzard of '09.
This was the most exciting, (and frightening) Christmas I've ever had the pleasure of being a part of.
I hope all of you are safe.
I also hope that they let us Loud City ticket holders down to the lower-bowl tomorrow, because I WILL BE AT THE GAME!! GO THUNDER!!
