The Knicks blame last night’s loss on the supernatural

by Royce Young on January 12, 2010 at 10:43 am 29 Comments

But not the supernatural powers of Kevin Durant. Nope. The ACTUAL supernatural. From Frank Isola of the New York Daily News:

skirvin2_001The Knicks were afraid, very afraid. And it had nothing to do with the Oklahoma City Thunder. For two days, several players had trouble sleeping because they were convinced that their downtown hotel is haunted.

“I definitely believe it,” Jared Jeffries said. “The place is haunted. It’s scary.”

Eddy Curry claims he slept for only two hours Sunday night because he couldn’t stop thinking about ghosts roaming the hotel. For years, guests staying at the Skirvin Hilton have reported ghost sightings and strange noises. Legend has it that sometime in the 1930s, a woman jumped to her death while holding her baby in her hands.

“They said it happened on the 10th floor and I’m the only one staying on the 10th floor,” Curry said. “That’s why I spent most of my time in (Nate Robinson’s) room. I definitely believe there are ghosts in that hotel.”

Assistant coach Herb Williams teased Jeffries and Curry for believing that the Skirvin is haunted, but Curry wasn’t laughing. “There are too many stories,” Curry said. “Something is going on there.”

I’m sitting here trying to come up with something. So you lost last night… because of ghosts? So many ways to go with a potential joke – a cliche “I see fat people” Eddy Curry joke? A “REDRUM” zing? Eh, I think the story itself is enough comedy. Two things though: 1) I have stayed at the Skirvin (on my wedding night) and I didn’t hear any nonsense. Other than what was coming from my own room. Hi-oh! And 2) You have to love Eddy Curry is the one making a big deal about it. You know, the guy that didn’t play one second of the game. And why was he all alone on the 10th floor? Nobody like Eddy?

Whatever the case, maybe this is a good idea to put away a few home wins. Freak your opponent out before the game by making them stay in a haunted hotel and then pummel them on the basketball court. That right there, is a formula to winning basketball.

OKC George :
I heard from my cab driver friends that the Knick’s problem might have been all the “Escort” girls they brought back to the hotel with them.

ewww, thats so nasty. im gonna take a shower after reading that.

@MartzMimic

Yeah i was planning on rigging it to auto switch to that channel with an IR blaster. pay per view? just use the internet for that

I also stayed at The Skirvin on my wedding night. my wife and I stayed on the 8th floor and heard a baby crying off and on, all night. My wife and I called the front desk to complain and they said they wasn't a baby staying in the entire hotel.(I know!) lame ghost story, but I thought it was kinda creepy, but I still enjoyed my champagne and nice diggs with no problem sleeping. The Knicks just need to bring night-lights next time!

@f5alcon
The only problem is people like me who can never seem to navigate beyond the hotel's pay-per-view previews.

HAHA about the tv recording..

Man if the knicks were scared of the Skirvin imagine what they would have done if they went to the real haunted areas in Oklahoma lol.

Read this and had to comment.

Prior to doing what I do now, I worked for the investor group that sold the Skirvin to the City of OKC. A big part of my job was to show various interested groups in and around the Skirvin [which sucked, becuase they always wanted to go to the top floor to see the "ballroom", which by then was just a huge, nasty bird dump].

Anyway, one of the things that the group that bought it did was to shut off the electricity, all of it. I can attest to the fact that there was no electricity in that place BUT, there was always one light that was still working on one of the chandeliers [sp?]. What was even more weird was sometimes the single light was on, sometimes it was not.

I literally spent hundreds of hours in that place when it was vacant. I would not go so far to say it is haunted becuase I never saw a "ghost" or anything else, but the light thing was something that I never could have explained to me.

someone with seats near the opposing bench overheard some of the trainers talk about how they went back to the hotel during warmups and completely rearranged the room..heard it from someone who knew someone...so don't know if it's true...but funny

Wow, off-topic but; 58% of SportsNation on ESPN2 think the Thunder will make the play-offs! :) OKC is getting some support out there!

play a recording of a ghost show about the hotel on the TV and have it set to keep changing back to that channel when they change it.

@morgan
lol, im thinking have a baby basket and line it with dry ice, so it looks like ghost fog coming off of it, hide a few speakers for eerie noises, rig a door or 2 to slam on their own, fog up the bathroom write messages on the mirrors

just hire a woman to walk the 10th floor at night dressed in 30s clothing carrying a cabbage patch doll

maybe we need to rig up the hotel with special effects to try and mess with their heads

I've heard such stories about the Skirvin. I'm glad the Knicks believes them.

Ok. Sounds like the Skirvin needs to "reserve" the 10th floor for opposing teams when they play here.

Gotta relay this comment: "I'm over here imagining Curry's big ass tippy toeing to nate's little race car bed"

The Knicks are probably wishing that ghosts had eaten Eddy Curry and Jared Jeffries so they wouldn't have to pay their salaries next year,

Curry’s 6’11" 300 pounds is scared and runs to a 5’9" guy for protection.

Royce, it's not that nobody like Eddy. He's just so big he needs and entire floor to himself

We absolutely need to recruit 8 or 9 people to go to this hotel every time an opposing team stays there and play this up.
