I was JUST about to post that. Royce has a pair and I make fun of him every time he wears them. Now it looks like he will continue to think they are cool. Crap.

I think it's funny when these guys buy a house, get traded and can't sell their house because of all the wacked out modifications they make to the house that no one else wants.

I saw a statistic out there on the interwebs that said something to the effect that 50-55% of NFL players are broke within 10 years of leaving the league, whereas 70-75% of NBA players find themselves in that boat.

I don't think Harden is on his way to that. He doesn't have a Penny Hardawayesque mansion and doesn't appear to have a bunch more stuff than people that are his level of affluence. As long as all those guys aren't on his payroll and he has a good financial advisor, he'll be fine.

I have a family member that is a pro athlete and his finance guy told him to spend some because he'd earned it. He took a good hunk and put it back, but he was told to go spend some and enjoy it a bit. Hopefully James is doing something similar.

yeah i wasnt saying harden is overspending, just saying he should try to not turn out like the others.

yeah conservatively invested it is around $160,000 a year. that would maintain his current lifestyle decently well, but not a really extravagant life, but id take that,lol.

I remember a Tweet from him where he said that no matter how much money he earns his favorite store to shop at was Target.

Maybe for the silly t-shirts and the Crocs. Not much else that I saw.

I mean 8.3 million guaranteed. Even if Harden spent 3 million of that the first 2 years and save the other 5 million you could live off the interest for the rest of your life.

I consider myself good at saving money, but If I suddenly signed a contract for over 4 million at 2 years with a team option for 2 more I'd definitely buy some things that I've always wanted. Id get a nice house which looks like he has, my dream car which it looks like he got etc.

f5alcon is not overreacting. I don't think JH is close to spending all his money but look at Antoine Walker. He's bouncin checks in Las Vegas. It's extreme an extreme case but many players are going to have a tough time if there is a strike because they never developed responsible way to manage money.

yeah it really isnt just him, or even him at all, but a lot of players overspend because they suddenly have a ton of money, im sure for your friends they didnt just wake up one morning making 100X they did the day before.

From the looks of it, I didn't see too much that was really THAT extravaggant (sp?). Honestly, the whip is the "worst" thing he has as far as money goes, but alot of my friend have Ranges, Escalades, Vettes and Full-Size trucks. They are all fiscally responsible (could lose their job otherwise). Is it REALLY that bad? What would you rather he drive... a Mini-Van? ;)

yeah i dont mean he shouldnt spend some money, but save as much as possible, look at livingston, he went from promising player to barely make a roster, just dont want our young players to spend tons of money with the expectation that it lasts forever. even if they saved 25% of their net income (500,000 for JH) each year they could maintain an upper class lifestyle forever.

He's young let him have his moment.

no offense to JH, but this is a the reason why so many players are broke after they retire, wasting money on stuff they dont need.
