The Thunder’s Game 3 8-0 run against the Lakers

by Royce Young on April 23, 2010 at 11:31 am 34 Comments

I don’t know that I’ve ever felt more of a burst of jubilation than I did when KD knocked down the pull-up 3. Those are the type of shots you see your team take a lot, only to never hit. But last night, in the biggest moment, Durant drilled it. And it sent the Ford Center into insanity. First the Westbrook dunk. Then the transition Harden 3. Then the Durant trey. It was, um, wild. I love the smile Durant cracks after nailing the 3. He was eating it up. He just couldn’t help but enjoy the moment. Me too, KD. Me too.

after weathering thru the highs and lows of games 1 and 2, and then the awful 11-0 start by the lakers, watching OKC fight and claw they're way back to this culmination point made my head explode!

Mrs. Daily Thunder :I really thought Royce was going to pass out. He was so freaking excited. In 8 years I’ve only seen that face 3 times: 2003 OU/TX, 2008 OU/Tech, and last night. SO AMAZING!

....just soo many jokes to be had with this one... :) Man anyone else hoping it was Saturday already?

@clarkem

Did he say 'That's Thunder basketball' after the Durant block?

What do you think the crowd would have done if Harden had gotten the and 1 he was looking for on that three pointer. I think they might have lost the roof.

Steve :
I’d love to see this footage on FSOK since they probably didn’t miss Westbrook’s dunk to start with. I’d also love to see this sequence with Matt Pinto’s radio call as the audio. Anyone see/hear that yet?

I thought Grant Long got stabbed after one of those made shots because he screamed so loud and then didnt say another word for a minute. It was really weird but I was too pumped to care. Too pumped to care while rewatching it lol

They need to add that dunk to the pregame highlights

I also like Serge Ibaka's shove on Derek Fisher after Russ' dunk, to add insult to injury.

Kevin Durant seems to shoot the three better from a couple steps behind the line.

I watched this 15 times last night. No exaggeration.

That really could be taken out of context

Last night was my FIRST game at the Ford Center. How loud was that compared to other games? I need to know.

kobe on durant didnt work well, and with harden scoring kobe leaving him open didnt work well either.

As a Laker fan I must say, Great game! You guys won this fair and square. Glad to see you guys get a won in front of the homecrowd! I think this game was won on the coaches side. Putting Durant on Kobe was the best coaching move of the game. That and Phil ROYALLY screwed up. He took Kobe out with 3:30 to go in the third because we had an 8 point lead, that's when u guys went on that run, got momentum, an carried it throughout. In the first half, everytime u guys came within a basket or two Kobe hit some shots to extend the lead, with him out our offense sputtered and u guys came back. From then on out you just played a better 4th quarter but having the momentum certainly helped. Great game! Good win for you guys, I'm anxious to see how Kobe responds sat night!

I can't help but rewatch that clip over and over again. Little things like Harden having his feet squared on that trey before KD even throws him the basket. He's taking that three come hell or highwater and just knocks it down. KD's pull up three to tie it where he throws the gauntlet down on the Lakers and saying "Oh, yeah? Stop me scoring now. Stop us winning now."

Grooves like this make me think that if we don't get down by 10 points in the first couple of minutes next game, we have a good chance to control the flow of the game. We got out and ran, and, lo and behold, our gameplan started working and theirs was messed up.

Go. Thunder.

When Durant caught that air ball by Shannon Brown I thought for sure he was going to be called for coming out of bounds. Thanks goodness he didn't...

This is the James Harden we drafted. The effect of him making shots on the perimeter was very noticeable, even though Durant didn't shoot well he had a lot more space in the 2nd half to operate...
