Nenad Krstic fights Greece, throws chair

by Royce Young on August 19, 2010 at 4:57 pm 86 Comments

These are the type of things you pray for in mid-August. In a friendly between Greece and Serbia, the two teams got into a bit of a tussle. A brruh-ha-ha, if you will. And right in the middle of it was Oklahoma City’s own Nenad Krstic. Watch and enjoy:

exscuse me but krstic was trying to help his team mate the guy was bending down beating the other guy. i guess you missed that and most you guys who post this stuff about him being a coward are just seattle or los angeles trolls

Nenad Krstić is a coward. Absolutely emberrassing - hitting from behind and wielding a chair. He acted like a complete moron.

What a man! Look out Dwight H and Shaq, big K is in town. Shudder and fear. I could picture him in an officer's uniform during the ethnic cleansing days.

Kristic keeps hitting Big Sofo from behind but then runs a mile when Big Sofo comes after him. Then he whacks the guy that actually saved him from Big Sofo with a chair. I don't know what's worse. Cowardice or ungratefulness.

Now Bob that’s just crazy talk!

yeah it is. I am the biggest thabo homer ever just to make that clear.

Throwing chairs is for old geezers and WWF "atheletes". Up until that point I don't think he was doing anything but piling on to a fight and, at one point, trying to wrestle "baby Shaq" off his team-mate! No shame in that. The backpedaling was pretty fancy though... a bit surprising if he was the only one arrested though, looked like a few more guys in the wrong to me.

Not enough NBA players know how to throw punches. It's always such a let down to watch such behemoths toss lackluster blows. A couple of straight arm punches to Sofo to the jaw would have put the whole thing to rest because I would bet that Sofo knows about as much as what Krstic knows about throwing a punch.

the next thing we hear is thabo arrested for SHOOTING a person.

I can read lips. He wanted him to take a time-out, and was bringing him a chair. The previous clothes adjustments to the gentlemen who had fallen to the floor because of a spilled substance left Krispy's hands slippery. Unfortunately, he couldn't keep the chair from crashing into another man's ear.

Not a good look for Krstic. This isn't being aggresive and standing up for your teammates. Thats what Serge showed against Artest and Odom in the first round. This is nothing but cheap shots. If he's the leader of the team, its his job to break everything up, not escalate. Also, FIBA needs to take a page from the NBA and suspend players who leave the bench during altercations.

gp :Why are you guys all happy about Krstic? That was stupid. He was pounding dudes head and when dude came up and was bigger he ran away then threw chair. Stupid. Totally suspended in the NBA. If we were trying to just hold and stop dude different, but he was just pounding. Or trying to pound

10 players in this game would have been suspended if it happened in the NBA. Sofo (the guy Krstic was punching) was leaning over beating on one of Krstic's teammates. The chair thing was stupid, though.

So, Krstic actually does show emotion. Who knew.

I vote that we start calling him "Mr Chairman."

If the NBA league, keeps employing "athlets" like this guy, what do you expect? This time he repeatedly punched another player on the back neck as a coward and then threw chairs at the heads of co-athletes, next time what? He didnt even have the courage to face the people he was beating. Its a shame...

Congratulations to Chicken-Κrstic . Let's see now that the police arrested him in Greece what he will say.

Greeks have complexes, they can't win Serbia - Nenad Krstic is true captain of his team, he had protected his players.

It looks like Bourousis (the guy Krsitc hit with the chair) won't press charges. He was released about half an hour ago.

Well, there is a bit more behind it - the top players from both teams play in Greece in two teams that are huge rivals. The finals between Olympiacos and Panathinaikos this year ended in similar fashion. Teodosic has developed a habit of hitting the shooter in his genitals and I guess this time all hell broke out. He hit Fotsis, while he was shooting a three and he obviously went to settle it.... (Not that Fotsis is excused for behaving like a large brat in a school yard in any case...)

At least 3 players from each team should be punished, with Teodosic, Fotsis, Sofo and Krstic facing the largest punishment. Unfortunately, in Europe we do not have David Stern, who in this dept is the grand master...(oh, the guy hit on the head it Ioannis Mpourousis - the center of the Greek team, he was injured that's why he is not suited up - his rights are held by San Antonio).

The great thing at 1.08 is that Nad was blocked (what a surprise) at the chair throw attempt! That's why it doesn't reach Sofo, just the guy trying to stop the fight :-)

Krstic has been arrested by the Greek police, he did not follow his teammates to Belgrade

Can't compare Krstic to Artest. For all his faults, Ron-Ron never backed down. Nenad is an absolute sissy.

He should stay out of the fight or stand up like a man. He did neither. Afterall, it wasn't "his own" fight; it started between two other players. Or he could act like Spanoulis and try to calm everyone down.

All his "aggression" was spent on sucker punches behind people's backs. And then he ran away in panic. I wish Big Sofo had caught him and ate him alive. The cherry on the top of his chicken-ness was throwing the chair on the head of the injured Yiannis Bourousis who tried to save him from Sofo.

This makes me even sadder that Schortsanitis didn't sign with the Clippers. Their games Vs. the Thunder would be something to wait for.

it’s nice to see a little aggression out of Krispy, but those were all cheap shots. international game or not, Stern should suspend him. such would be great news if your name happens to be Serge Ibaka.

wont happen, nba and fiba have an agreement to not punish players for things that happen in the others leagues. Also it might not help serge, no reason to think collison wouldnt start instead.

Matt

@Royce Young
Ibaka wins easily. Serge might be able to take on the whole team single-handedly.

If I was to make a list of pros and cons that could influence the Thunder from the international game, Kristic throwing a chair at a guy would not have even been a consideration.

Where did that come from Nenad

Nenad was actually mad because Big Sofo has a higher ELO rating in International Chess. That's right, Sofo could mop the floor with almost anybody in a pickup chess match along Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn, then go mop up the playground Basketball courts.

How many people can say that?

Or alternatively, maybe he is mad that rogaine is working better for Big Sofo than it is for him.
