As was expected, the Thunder has waived both Demond “Tweety” Carter and Longar Longar, the team announced today.
Neither player made much of an impression nor were the afforded much of the opportunity to. Carter saw his only action last night putting up four points in four minutes and Longar appeared in one game for about a minute and a half.
Obviously both guys were nothing more than training camp players that were there to balance out the roster.
The Thunder roster now stands at 17. Which of course means Jerome Dyson and Elijah Millsap will almost definitely be next, but the team has decided to let both try and make a little more of a lasting impression in the final three preseason games. There’s some chatter about Millsap maybe playing for the 66ers as the team appears to like him.

Tweety Carter is a baller. Definitely better than Maynor. I'm shocked they cut him.
Dyson and Milsap waived today. I guess Thunder is moving on with the 15 on the roster. No mention of anyone going to the 66ers and they probably don't really care.
Yea Tweety don't give up. May the right door open for you.
Good luck to Tweety. I'll keep an eye out.
Well 1st a McD AA, then one of the top D-1 collegiant PG's in assists and A/TO ratio, who led his team to the elite 8 when running the O.. Tweety can dish it out and score too to keep a defense honest. Some team will pick him up this year, maybe sign him to their D-League to prove his game some more.
Seller can sell what they want, what they think the buyer needs, but the buyer decides.
Last season was ivey's best on rebounding and steal%. His shooting / scoring was up and down in Philly and Milwaukee but presti seems to weights ebounding and steal% more than shooting / scoring.
If you look beyond the stats at the psychology and sociology of the decision I'd note that Ivey comes in used to not really expecting to play much or making much a fuss about it and he is a vet. Tweety is young and might be pushing for time. They apparently didn't want that. Right or wrong.
Actual game time is what I base me decision on Tweety being the best 3 PG spot. Ivey doesn't have it that's why no team in the NBA wants to keep him or give him more than min pay after all his yrs in the league. Tweety will be a prime PG back up...super consistent when the game is on the line.
Several teams worked him before the draft but not the Thunder to my knowledge. He came to the Thunder camp. Don't know the details of what he had available and what was said.
Tweety's camp knew Ivey was signed and took a shot, presumably what they thought was the best one all things considered. Not surviving your first camp is significant but the bigger thing now is what he does from here. Go to the NBDL and hit 100 3s and there is about a 1 in 3 chance of getting called up.
@UhOhThrees
Tweety is not worth wasting the $$$ to cut one of the 12 players with gauranteed contracts. Neither is Elijah Millsap, for that matter.
I hope Tweety goes where he can do the best financially. He's got game and if the Thunder wants to overlook him than go where God opens the door for the best opportunity. There is no doubt in my mind Tweety will be in the NBA somewhere.
I doubt that is was as simple as just filling slots with any but Longar and maybe one other. They got a look at Tweety and that is worth something. Releasing him now rather than a 1 or 2 week later is probably actually a favor to him. He might get another look with another team, something that couldn't happen at the very end and he has more time to consider overseas jobs before they are all gone. Presti will probably talk about him, especially if he doesn't see a near term fit. They could still ask him to go to Tulsa or give him another look next summer / fall.
It could be that Tweety eventually winds up in Tulsa. The Thunder can invite their final three training camp cuts to sign D-League contracts. With 15 players already under contract, it wasn't likely any of the invitees were going to make the roster.
Seriously?
"Obviously both guys were nothing more than training camp players that were there to balance out the roster." Well why waste Demond's time when he could have used this time try-out for the D-League or another valid opportunity. Thunder has lost my respect.
Cutting Tweety was a huge mistake. I have been following him for a long time ,coming from Louisiana. I am shocked that Ivey and Dyson were kept over Demond "Tweety" Carter after Ivey's horrible performance at trying to generate an offense running the point in Tulsa. I have been to quite a few Thunder games in the past few years but will likely stop following them. This decision for Coach Brooks to cut Tweety was a horrible one.
Carter's 3 pt game may give him a chance later- after the NBDL or overseas. A lot depends on his defense.
Mike Wilks played parts of 7 seasons.
Avery Johnson eventually made it big.
it was nice for them that, at least, they both got to play in an NBA (preseason) game. Most folks can't say that.
Longarlongarlongarlongarlongarlongar.
The dude may suck, but his name is awesome.
....even if he came out of college as a senior and has probably come quite close to his ceiling....
Surely he get's a D-league our Euroleauge contract somewhere. I think he has potential.
Man, sorry to jinx you, Tweety. I was just saying you would make a good 3rd PG.
I enjoyed your short four minutes with the team! Thanks for sending Russia packing.
I think Tweety could be a poor man's Nate Robinson. Spot minutes for a high energy scoring point guard when the matchup is right.
At least I can say I was there to see Tweety's best four minutes as an NBA player.
I nominate Tweety and Longar Longar to the NBA All-Name Team.
