by Royce Young on December 19, 2010 at 12:05 am 23 Comments

TGR lucked out this week catching Michael Schwartz of Valley of the Suns in the midst of heavy trade speculation regarding

Turk, J-Rich and Vince Carter. We talk about the possible ramifications and also preview their game against the Thunder this Sunday. Combined with Deep Thoughts & The Thundies, it makes for a good listen.

The suns are thin, we will destroy them.

For some reason, I have this image in my head of Royce standing at the ceremony in an ill-fitting tux, with a discretely tucked away radio in the pocket and a thin wire leading up to an ear-plug as he listens to Matt Pinto.

At unexpected moments, Royce uncontrollable shouts YEAH! and pumps his fist, only to retract and look about sheepishly at the other attendees with an embarrassed grin, while taking a hard poke to the ribs from a not-amused Mrs. Daily Thunder.

I don't know, but...

I find the notion of anyone putting "real life" events ahead of nonsense such as basketball games... well... pretty disturbing!

;)

@Daniel Hawaii
"but THIS IS NO GIMME..."

Devil: yea, it's a gimme
Angel: No, it's not. You have to respect every team. Any NBA team can beat any other team on a given night.

Devil: that's true, but... it's a gimme
Angel: Now stop that! Suns still have a lot of good players and we'll have to play hard to earn the 'W'.

Devil: I suppose, but... it's a gimme
Angel: Hey now! Keep in mind, a lot of teams are dangerous when depleted. Guys who normally warm the bench get a chance to show what they've got and play out of their minds in games like this.

Devil: Maybe, but... we're going to crush the Suns tonight
Angel: You devil!

Ok with Nash playing I just want to see Aldrich and Mullens playing together.

Channing Frye is the stereotype outside shooting PF who has had success against us this season.

Mayberry says Nash WILL play. No Carter, Pietrus or Gortat. Their starting lineup is still formidable:

PG: Steve Nash
SG: Jared Dudley
SF: Grant Hill
PF: Channing Frye
C: Robin Lopez

They don't have much left on the bench, but THIS IS NO GIMME. We must play well to win this game.

@Keith I want us to be that far ahead. :)

umm Royce... you do know there's a game today, right?

:)

@holdmymartian
Why? Cook is worse than terrible. Mo Pete doesn't do much. Mullens doesn't know where he is defensively. Ivey and Aldrich have shown some value.

Putting that lineup in before a 4th quarter blowout would be a nice way of giving the Suns a chance to remove a deficit or extend a lead.

We're up to 8 (from 10) in Hollinger's power rankings. These big wins have been helping us a lot.

holdmymartian

I wanna see:
C-Aldrich
PF-Mullens
SF-MoPete
SG-Cook
PG-Ivey
Before the 4th quarter.

winning by anything less than 15 points would be a poor showing against a super depleted suns team

Read that Nash is doubtful for tonight, and that Gortat & Carter unlikely to join team till Monday. Byron, Cole, I'm thinking tonight is your night guys.

DizzyDai :I like having the Sonics history mentioned on occasion. Simply out of honor of the team’s history and comparing our team with former greats. Honestly, I don’t see it any differently than the Minny Lakers vs. the LA Lakers. With all that said, I’m glad the team is keeping it’s distance by not hanging banners. If Seattle ever revives it’s team it seems that the Thunder ownership are ready to return the history to Seattle.
But if you pay attention we still respect retired numbers. Desmond Mason usually wears 24. When he played in OKC he had to wear 34. Why? Because #24 is Spencer Haywood’s retired number. Honestly I’d be shocked if 1, 10, 19, 24, 32 or 43 was worn by any Thunder player.
Also I’m really bothered that Payton’s jersey has not been retired. I know he’d rather die than be retired by OKC. Perhaps the oranization can have a special night in Seattle with a bunch of Sonic Legends and retire his number in the pacific northwest. Maybe in some preseason game with Blazers and some other team. I don’t think OKC should play, but it’d be great if Collison, Green, and Durant could make an appearence. Pipe dream I know.

I think it would be easier for all concerned to consider us a brand new franchise upon arrival in OKC and the re-naming of the franchise. Pretending that the a team's history is something that can be borrowed for awhile, but returned in the event that a new franchise springs up in the old hometown sort of defeats the whole purpose of honoring a team's history in the first place. I feel no sense of pride/kinship/ownership/history for those players in another city on a team with a different name. Why TRY to engage in such a schizophrenic exercise? If Seattle gets a team, they can slap a Sonic's logo on it, hang their banners, and retire the appropriate #s from the roster. Until such time as that happens, that franchise is simply defunct.

DizzyDai

I meant the he gets retired as a Sonic. I wouldn't want a Thunder logo anywhere near the arena.

@DizzyDai

Agree with what you said except the GP stuff. GP is Seattle, I know the technicalities of the team history and whatnot, but it'd be ridiculous for the Thunder to retire Gary Payton's jersey... plus GP would never participate anyway.

good games usually mean good times for the ever rotating corp mix. many fans take it seriously and think more about the game than being seen in the social setting. however i know several in the section whose focus is to be seen and heard by the teams and it doesn't beer to get us pumped up.

If Nash is indeed out, tonight's game against the Suns is going to be brutal. But it's worth it for the Suns if they can get rid of Turkoglu's terrible contract.

Oh, and sitting in the behind the basket area, I see all types of drunks. Some are angry office employees, some are nice aristocrats. It just depends on the mix of people that happen to come in (especially since a large portion of the seats around me are owned by energy companies or scalpers).
