TGR 34: Open Season on Jeff Green w/ HoopsHype’s Tracy Graven

by Thunderground Radio on January 10, 2011 at 1:42 pm 13 Comments

This week we had a great conversation with Hoopshype.com SR NBA analyst Tracy Graven. With stops in Orlando and Phoenix, he’s been an NBA writer for the past decade. A resident of OKC, he knows the Thunder.

We talked extensively about Jeff Green and how much the Thunder defense miss Ron Adams. Brad and I also cover the week’s Deep Thoughts and the Thundie Awards.

Download, listen and respond.

Concerning the music, my teenage son is quite fond of that Dougie song. Of course being semi-old-school myself I like the Digital Underground snippet.

Production value is way up on the podcast but my god the intro is corn ball. How dated is that music?

Mayberry's story is influencing others. I've seen small write ups at AHN...

"Green, the fifth overall pick in 2007 NBA draft, is averaging 15.5 points and 5.7 rebounds in 37.9 minutes per game, embracing his role as the no.3 scoring option for the young and talented Thunder squad. However, basketball critics are not still contented with Green’s current form, insisting the 6-foot-9 forward must show more consistency to back up the Thunder’s ‘big three’ bravado."

and Hoopsworld...

"The Oklahoma City Thunder have one perceived weak spot in the long-term growth plan, and that weak spot is Jeff Green. Playing at power forward with a small forward skill set, many believe the Thunder should deal Green for a legitimate front court presence, but the Thunder are steadfastly sticking to their plan, which very much includes Green."

I'm sure there are many more.

So. The Nuggets are stalling the trade because they want to get rid of Harrington as well. NJ needs a 4th team to help them. Too bad we can't step up and say, "Sure we'll take Big Al and Nene off your hands."

just listened to this cast -- jeez what a waste of time

an unrelenting stream of whining and misery wallowing

I'll give the Debby Downer award to Mr. Graven who is apparently disappointed in every aspect of everything.

If I didn't know better and had only listened to this podcast, I'd have to assume the team's record this year was 15-23 (or 5-33).

Don't think I'll bother with any further TGR podcasts.

One thing i love about brooks is his set plays out of time outs. I understand what your saying about evaluating coaching staff's and what not. It just seems odd to me that when russ or kd starts goin out of control they are never told to basically knock it off. I wish we had a veteran player with a voice on this team. When grant hill started his career he had Joe Dumars in his ear allll the time. Kobe had Byron Scott on the floor. If we had someone like that they could pull our young guys aside and tell them to calm down.

I think we need someone in the coaching staff who is tough. Someone who will grab westbrook by the jersey when he is in hero mode and simply tell him to stop. Someone who will tell durant when he takes bad shots (not saying he does that alot) and someone who will look everyone in the eye and say play with energy on the defensive side or we're going to lose. Just always seems like brooks is always encouraging, which is great, but we never hear him call his players out when they dont play well. but they still young! =)

Someone wanted Amare. ;)

I blame everything on Brooks, Nenad, and maybe Ron Adams too!

Royce, I've started an online radio station. Anyways, we are going to bring back a radio show that we used to have back on the old FM station I used to work for: Sports Rock 91. We're a Christian radio station, but once a week, we'll have a show where we talk sports, take calls and interview a Christian athlete. Anyhoo, was curious if you'd like to stop by the studio sometime and talk some Thunder with us? Let me know if you're interested and I'll get you scheduled to come in!
