Video: Farewell Uncle Jeff and Krispy

by Royce Young on February 24, 2011 at 8:22 pm 106 Comments

This video is too good not to be posted. Via DT commenter thunderchris9 is a wonderfully done goodbye to two of the Thunderers that were dealt today.

In all seriousness, it’s such a bummer to lose players that you really liked and felt a connection to. I hoped that we’d win something, but really wanted it to come with our guys, if you know what I mean. But that just didn’t seem possible in the end. Anyway, have the tissues handy for this one. It’s a tough one.

This was a sad video.. but the interjected "Nenad smashes guy over the head with a chair" video had me cracking up.

How many shots has Jeff Green over passed out of?

justin
justin 5pts

Talk about looking on the bright side. If Jeff Green is a young Antonio McDyess, what's Kendrick Perkins? The second coming of Artis Gilmore?

Greg
Greg 5pts

Lol. A young McDyess was twice the player Green is.

From the Boston Globe...

"I can hear the weeping and wailing among the faithful. 'Perk? Perk! How could they give up Perk?’ Well, here’s how: You trade Perk if in return you get someone who is a much more accomplished basketball player and one who fills a critical need. There is no argument here. Jeff Green is the best player of the four players involved in yesterday’s deal. Green is 6 feet 9 inches, 235 pounds, and a born team player. Just about my only concern is that there may be a bit too much KG in him; i.e. he is so selfless that he occasionally over-passes himself out of a good shot. I can see KG and Green passing themselves into a shot-clock violation. Overall, I’d say he’s the young Antonio McDyess; something like that."

Is the Mohammed trade final/official yet?

ha but in actuality i feel it was a great trade and we will benefit alot. Green hadnt developed as well as i had hoped over the last couple of years

haha nah forget all that. that was just my friend jumping on here and trying to troll it. i just saw it ha

dang, some people need to calm down. just basketball talk over here.

@simeon

first of all: http://www.thewambulance.com/

second: jeff green was a member of the thunder family and as much as we did use him as a scapegoat theres always going to be a player that goes through that. im sure jeff is a great individual and im gonna miss him honestly even though i was often hating on him. hell i even miss freaking nenad... no need to get butt hurt over analysis. justin might be pesimistic often but i find that what he says does make sense basketball wise. this is a basketball discussion website. dont read the comments if youre gonna get butt hurt about them..

Kivman

Chill out, simeon. Why all the hate?

The only thing good about your posts is they remind me why I like this site...because we rarely see the kind of stuff you are spewing.

... Are you Scott Brooks?

simeon
simeon 5pts

and pardon my emotions. but i am already missing jeff green so much. And if any of you wanna talk shit, maybe you should get over your new sports high horse and remember the good of the game. Jeff green brought more than basketball to this organization. So dont give me numbers, cause i could care less

nick
nick 5pts

@Simeon
Relax bud. What exactly is so wrong with somebody giving their opinion about the Thunder on a website specifically designed for people to share their opinions on the Thunder? I've never understood the vitriol against people who dare to voice an opinion.

simeon
simeon 5pts

You know what. There are a few things i can not handle. People who love nothing but indie rock bands, but once they get success, they turn on them and hate them for "selling out" aka getting somewhere. Same thing with sports snobs. Those who know everything and talk shit on everyone except MAYBE the very best in their position. Im sorry but @justin. Your comment on kendrick perkins being one of the best centers OKC has has in a long time is sad is bullshit. Yea we have been around for 3 years. And i'm sorry but it wasnt our fault seattle couldnt keep a decent player in the later years of their lives to save them. And kendrick perkins is a great center if healthy. Oh shit sorrry sorry, we are a shitty time. What the heck are you wanting? Gasol at center? You ragged on jeff green so much but shove it up yourself. He was a great part of this team. On a decent night he got around 12 points and on a good night he got 20+. Thats damn good in my opinion in the freaking NBA. Yea i will say someone like bosh would be better. But whats his salary compared to greens? And yea name some 2 year out of college player whos better but theres a few problems. yea they have a cheaper salary FOR NOW. and 2 good luck getting them to OKC. All i know is it seems with alot of you unless we get superstars, you do nothing but bitch about it. And frankly im really tired of it. And the constant bitching by alot of yall about scott brooks. You all dont understand coaching one single bit. You cant play the best players non stop, its a long season, you need to share time with other players. Just know that the thunders salary is 55 mil. We cant get every damn player you wish u could get. And yea alot of u bitch about harden not starting. And i love harden, but defense does set the tone for the game, so sefolosha can do that. Im basically just ssaying quit being damn basketball snobs and acting like you could get better players or coach better cause you couldnt. And theres a reason you sit behind a computer and talk shit, cause you are shit. You are not and NBA player and never will be. So i will say this, even a player like DJ white is AMAZING, because he is doing something all you wish you could do, play in the nba. And yea hes not as good as others, but forget yourselves if you talk shit

bosco
bosco 5pts

perkins > varejao imo

nick
nick 5pts

@Sammy
Yeah, that was one team that I didn't feel like this trade specifically addressed our weaknesses against. Of course, Green being gone addresses our problems against anybody. I really hope our significantly improved interior defense puts an end to the absurd over helping that kills us against the Spurs.

Sammy
Sammy 5pts

I can't sleep. I'm so pumped to see this team play. And, BTW, I'm still terrified of the Spurs.

Haha, I tried to make this trade on NBA 2K11 and the Celtics rejected it! I forced it through anyway! Awesomeness playing with the new lineup in the video game. Perk grabs every rebound and the ones that he doesn't, Ibaka gets!

Can't wait to see the real life version once Perkins gets healthy!

RWisMyFavThunder
RWisMyFavThunder 5pts

So apparently people from Seattle are pissed about the addition of Nate Robinson because he is the poster boy of the Emerald City (from the area and played at UW). One site even said that people should root for Nate to do well but for OKC to fail miserably. Can we please just get over this already, or can the NBA hurry up and move the Hornets to Seattle so they have a team again and can leave ours alone? This is getting old. I'm tired of hearing about Bennett being a douche, the ability of one city vs another to fill up a stadium, etc. It's baseball season or about to be. Write about the Mariners or Matt Hasselbeck or something else besides, "I hate the Thunder! How dare they! I hope they die!"

DJ R7

if anything Nate will help Perk consider resigning here.

First of all, first time poster. Hi everyone!
Second of all, ironically Nate tweeted earlier today asking if anyone had heard about any new trades. Haha

I follow him on Twitter, his reactions were great. One second he seems sad, the next hes amped. He def got excited when KD sent him a message saying welcome to the mob!

How many games will Perkins be out for? Don’t want to rush him, but I hope he is back and making his Thunder debut in a few weeks

What up bro welcome to Daily Thunder, Royce Young seems to be in charge of the site most of the time, and us fans welcome you to the exciting game of Basketball!

I like that Perk brings a nasty attitude and toughness, whereas Varajeo brings the pansy attitude and flopping,

justin
justin 5pts

I would have much rather had a healthy Anderson Varejao than Perkins. And I think, maybe, so would Presti. Chandler right now is better than Perkins, too. Both those guys are just do more on offense.

Still, Perkins is an above average center who can defend and rebound, and that's what the Thunder wanted.

ATH
ATH 5pts

I just found unofficial wingspans:

Chandler: 7'3"
Varejao: 7'4"
Perkins: 7'4"

So, at 280 lbs., Perkins definitely wins this.

ATH
ATH 5pts

Presti believes the Thunder have their franchise center. Perkins is the third player--and first successfully brought on pending a physical--that has been billed as or rumored to become the long-term answer in the middle. Here's how the three compare...

VITALS
Tyson Chandler: 7'1" 235 lbs., 28 years old
Anderson Varejao: 6'11", 260 lbs., 28 years old
Kendrick Perkins: 6'10", 280 lbs., 26 years old

GAMES PLAYED / MINUTES PLAYED
Chandler: 642 / 17,745
Varejao: 419 / 10,341
Perkins: 454 / 10,123

CAREER PER
Chandler: 15.4
Varejao: 14.7
Perkins: 12.9

CAREER TS%

Varejao: .550
Perkins: .584

CAREER DRB%
Chandler: 24.2
Varejao: 21.8
Perkins: 22.2

CAREER BLK%
Chandler: 3.8
Varejao: 2.3
Perkins: 5.0

CAREER AST% / TO%
Chandler: 4.5 / 18.5
Varejao: 5.8 / 11.9
Perkins: 7.1 / 23.0

CAREER USG%
Chandler: 14.1
Varejao: 13.7
Perkins: 14.9

CAREER ORTG / DRTG
Chandler: 112 / 102
Varejao: 115 / 102
Perkins: 103 / 102

All in all, these guys are similar. None have been injury-free and all have played on both great and horrible teams. Any of them would fit in here and be productive. There are many more ways to examine these players, especially defensively, but Perkins may be the toughest to scout because of his special situation in Boston.

His offensive success (basically just good shooting) didn't come until the talent came, and his turnover issues were there from the beginning. However, Perkins' bulk and skilled aggressiveness on defense are his best assets, all top in this group, and he should bring those over no problem along with solid rebounding.

If offered a choice, I might pass on Chandler just because of the probability of this season's success being contract-driven and his mileage, but I would have a hard time decided between the other two. Perkins' mean streak and one-on-one prowess might fill more vacancies in OKC, but Varejao's mobility and passing would be nice too. The age difference may be the tie-breaker.

I've read nothing but good things today about Perkins' attitude and work ethic and hustle, mostly from Celtics fans. So I'm happy. Hope he stays healthy and considers resigning here.

Hey guys, it's me, the old "Ozark". Haven't been able to log on for a while. Just driving around Tulsa, going to convenience stores, the Perk trade is the talk of the town even around here. Impressive.

PS - since I'm the injury Nostradamus, I'd like to go on record as stating Perkins' knees won't be a problem going forward. He'll make 85% of our games if he re-signs with us over the summer.

@RWisMyFavThunder
I expect to lose to Orlando just because Dwight is too much and we'll probably have to play a good amount of smallball just to have enough bodies to keep a big man in the game by the end. However, so long as we get Nazr by Sunday, I think the Lakers game is up in the air. Our guys are going to be pumped up, and an Ibaka-Nazr pairing is still better than anything we put out in the playoffs last year.

good point. ibaka and collison should be able to handle it. we just gotta hope our shots are falling. if we can slow down dwight and their perimeter, i like our chances if we're trading buckets...

The one thing we've learned about Dwight is he can't carry a team to victory single handedly. He never has had to ability to do it, whether it's because he can't shoot ft's or because his teammates don't get him the ball. I can't imagine us getting blown out. Lakers game Sunday needs to be out of the world in terms of fan support. We need this game if only for team mentality.

RWisMyFavThunder
RWisMyFavThunder 5pts

So the consensus is we're losing to Orl and the Lakers?!? I think we're winning at least one of those, and does the loss of Green and Nenad suddenly ruin our teams defensive ability that much

james hardens beard

@Greg
i was actually thinking that the magic may come in thinking "whew, they don't have perk yet, this should be easy"... and then we'll just outgun them when they take it easy... but that's a small possibility...ha

RWisMyFavThunder

Speaking of Cole, my wife used to play center a long time ago and went with me to the game the other night and the whole time she kept on commenting on how Cole's footwork is bad, how he's out of position at times, and keeps on falling for people's fakes. I kept thinking, "wow, you sound like the more knowledgeable commentators on this website." She said she wants to root for him, and she can tell that he's trying hard mentally while on the court and trying to think through where he needs to be and what he needs to do but it's not all there yet.

Keith

The Kings shot over 50% and Orlando (outside Dwight) couldn't buy a bucket. Further, Orlando will be pissed after that loss. I'm not liking the looks of it, but I'd love to be surprised.

well our front court depth will be extremely thin tomorrow which is not a good sign vs Dwight.
