TGR 44: Denver is no big whoop with Ryen Russillo

by Royce Young on March 26, 2011 at 5:07 pm 16 Comments

Brad “The Face” has been freaking out about the Thunder’s more than likely first round matchup with the Nuggets since the horrible loss to the Raptors. To help bring him off the ledge, we got NBA Today’s Ryen Russillo to talk about how Thunder fans can rest easy. Or can we?

We also talk with him about the Derrick Rose MVP controversy. That’s when we went and ticked him (Ryen) off. Take a listen to the episode. Complete with Deep Thoughts and the Thundie Awards, it’ll put hair on your chest.

@Keith

Here we go..another Brooks hater. Let me guess, he needs to be fired because we have one of the most dangerous benches AND starting lineups in the league..RIGHT?

@Grolgar
Yeah, we're both canadian, Vancouver originally so we followed the Sonics before they were the Thunder. A year before the team relocated my wife and I found jobs in Oklahoma and were lucky enough to have our favorite team follow us. Joel still lives in vancouver, where he remains one of the few NBA fans in a very NHL centered market. Glad you're enjoying the show.

@Keith
Thanks for letting us know about this technical issue, I'll work on it for next weeks show. Please let me know if the problem get's better or worse in the upcoming episodes.

according to this russell westbrook has been having a nice improvement over opposing point guards. look at all those negatives at the beginning of the season...

Just a quick technical issue for you guys, but how do you edit this all together? I'm not sure if it's my computer or not, but the volume changes widely to extremes. Russillo was obviously on the phone, but the volume was really low, as it seems kind of low with your own voices. Then the intros and segues just blast out and make me need to turn the volume down.

If Sullinger goes pro, and I were the Kings, i would scoop him up. That would be a HUGE from court. And, if Tyreke plays PG and Thortons at Sg, thats an explosive team. If Cousins grows up and they get a coach

Great podcast! Question: Are you guys both Canadian? Do you live here now? Just curious about how you guys got involved with this Thunder podcast. Anyway, keep up the great work.

P.S. I love you how you guys say Thabo. Cracks me up.

I like Russillo's take on the MVP. I don't agree with his assessment of Rose, especially saying how much better and easier he make the game for his teammates. If that was the case, why are his assists lower than every other top PG? If that was the case, why are none of the other main offensive cogs in Chicago playing any better than they have in the past? It sounds like a perception that doesn't follow reality.

@cdub00
I don't see the point in it from a personnel and team impact perspective, but I expect it to be the case. Thabo was a big help to LA in shutting down Durant and later Kobe smothering Westbrook. And his defense just doesn't look as good this year. I understand his value, especially if he was playing fewer but higher energy minutes (really disrupting a star's rhythm), but as a starter he just doesn't given us what our starting lineup needs.

I don't expect anything to change because, until a higher power forced his hand, Brooks has never changed anything.

Didn't see that coming at all.
