by Thunderground Radio on July 24, 2011 at 9:13 am 8 Comments

It’s Lockout 2011, so what better way to get through another hour without basketball than to listen to some Thunder talk. In this week’s episode Royce and Brad team up to grade Presti’s moves through the 2010-2011 season (including the 2010 NBA Draft). Also returning is our summer segment “What up with that?” where we look at all the NBA’s hot topics.

Episode Bullets:

  • Was the Perkins mid-season signing necessary?
  • Reviewing the trade of Jeff Green
  • Drafting Reggie Jackson
  • Trading for Cole
  • Kevin Durant tattoos
  • Looking forward to the Goodman/Drew League showdown
  • Parking in handicap spots

Has Presti done enough already to win a title?

I don't know and won't offer a guess right now.

But I did check the recent success of teams who lost in the conference finals. In the last 12 years before last season the 24 losers in the conference finals came back to win a title on 3 occasions.

San Antonio after losing the 2001 finals, but having won the 1999 title before, changed at least half their roster including adding Ginobili and Parker and came back and won the 2003 title 2 years later.

Detroit after losing in the 2003 conference finals, changed coaches, changed half their roster including getting Rasheed and came back in win the title in 2004.

Miami after losing in the 2005 conference finals, changed coaches, changed two-thirds of their roster including getting 2 new PGs and came back in win the title in 2006.

So in all 3 recent cases there was pretty large change on the teams who came back to win it all.

Thomas :It feels like the momentum to cancel the season totally is only building. Hopefully when we start actually missing games cooler heads will prevail.

Where are you getting that feeling from, probably 5 more months until we would get to that point

[...] Last week on TGR, we reviewed Presti’s tenure with the Thunder and pretty much everything received high marks. The one scuff in his otherwise clean sheet is trading Beaubois for Mullens, but I can forgive it, because sometimes taking a chance on a 7-1 athlete is worth it late in the first round. When you have a developmental plan like the Thunder do, it’s not such a bad idea to try and steal a talent late. [...]
