15 trivia questions from last season

How about some Friday trivia with absolutely no reward for the winner? Sounds awesome right? I’m totally ripping this off from TrueHoop brother Raptors Republic and while the Thunder doesn’t have nearly as many surprising answers as the Raptors, there are a few interesting notes to take out of this. Like do you know who actually led the Thunder in Offensive Rating last season? Wait, don’t answer that yet. That’s one of the questions.

So check out these 15 questions and then see if you got them right with the answers below. And if you got them all correct, just keep it to yourself because no one’s going to believe you anyway.

1. Everyone got all hussy about Russell Westbrook shooting too much after Game 4 against Denver where he had 30 attempts. During the regular season, what’s the most attempts he had in a game, excluding the triple-overtime game against the Nets where KD was hurt?

2. Similarly, what was the Thunder’s record in games Westbrook shot more than 20 times?

3. What was the Thunder’s record in games KD scored 30 or more?

4. Who led the Thunder in Offensive Rating?

5. Who led the Thunder in Defensive Rating?

6. What is James Harden’s BER (Beard Efficiency Rating)? Conversely, what is Byron Mullens?

7. Easy one: How many games has Russell Westbrook missed in his three-year career?

8. What about Durant (four years)?

9. What was OKC’s top five-man unit last season in adjusted plus/minus?

10. Who led the Thunder in assist-to-turnover ratio?

11. Who led the Thunder in points per shot?

12. Westbrook led the Thunder last season with three triple-doubles. I’ve wondered if KD could ever register one. What’s the closest he came last season?

13. Which player played in all 82 games but never started?

14. Who had the best Win Shares per 48 minutes on the team? Who was second?

15. Put these in order of best to worst free throw percentage: Serge Ibaka, Daequan Cook, Nick Collison, Eric Maynor

Bonus: Should the Thunder trade Russell Westbrook?

ANSWERS:

1. Westbrook had four games where he attempted 24 shots.

2. OKC went 13-6 when Westbrook took more than 20 shots. Meaning the Thunder were 42-21 when he didn’t.

3. OKC went 24-5 when KD scored 30 or more. The Thunder were 5-0 when he scored 40 or more.

4. It’s a bit skewed, but Daequan Cook led OKC in Offensive Rating at 115.0. Durant was sixth, Westbrook ninth.

5. Serge Ibaka… and Cole Aldrich. But Aldrich doesn’t really count because I think you and I actually had more minutes than him last season.

6. Harden led the league in BER with a stellar 30.61. Mullens though was dead last in the league with a paltry 7.89. That weak mustache/sideburn combo just wasn’t cutting it.

7. Just like his number, zero.

8. KD’s missed just 14 games. In 2009-10, he played in all 82. He missed two his rookie year, eight in 2008-09 and four last season. One interesting note: In 2008-09, KD played in 74 but started only 73. I tried to find which game he came off the bench but couldn’t locate it.

9. Westbrook, Harden, Durant, Ibaka and Collison.

10. Eric Maynor and it wasn’t close. Maynor had an assist-to-turn ratio of 3-1 with Westbrook behind him at 2-1.

11. James Harden, 1.459, ahead of KD at 1.405.

12. Against Minnesota, KD went for 30 points, six assists and 11 rebounds. That’s the closest. Durant only had 10 games with five or more assists.

13. Eric Maynor.

14. KD led the team in WS/48 with 0.189. But second? That was actually Serge Ibaka at 0.164, ahead of Westbrook who was 0.159.

15. Cook (80.0 percent), Collison (75.3), Ibaka (75.0), Maynor (72.9).

Bonus: No. And you failed if you said yes.

"What was OKC’s top five-man unit last season in adjusted plus/minus?"

Westbrook, Harden, Durant, Ibaka and Collison was the best amongst th e17 lineups used over 50 minutes by traditioanl Adjusted +/-. Maynor, Harden, Durant, Ibaka and Collison was in 2nd by a small fraction.

But by regularized Adjusted +/- Maynor, Harden, Durant, Ibaka and Collison was more than twice as good (+12 to +6 per 48 minutes) at the lineup with Westbrook instead.

Neither was used enough to be very accurate or to pick between them. They both should get used more and see what the numbers say next season.

KD has 17+3 40+ games in his first 4 years career which is the same with Lebron and much better than Melo. And he never took more than 30 attempts in these games. In fact he had only 1 game which he took 30+ shots in his career.I think it is difficult to find another scorers like him

According to basketball reference KD started in all of his games in 08-09.

I never realised who "bad" of a free throw shooter Maynor was. It felt good to see him going to the line.

[...] unfathomable to me that anyone on this planet would have a problem with Harden’s beard. I mean, the man posted a 30.61 BER (Beard Efficiency Rating) last season. That’s a Hall of Fame-quality beard campaign. I guess [...]
