Even with his league locked out, Kevin Durant has still had himself quite a busy summer. He went to China. He’s torn up every pro-am league from coast-to-coast. He got some new ink. He’s made appearances, helped at camps, hosted camps and of course, worked tirelessly on his game.
He needs a vacation. So he’s asking for your help. Last night, he tweeted: “I gotta take a vacation one of these days…any suggestions?”
OK then, well here are a few from me and knowing KD’s interests and what he’s probably looking for, I think they’re pretty good.
San Francisco ProCity League. Bay Area hoops. Go check out the Golden Gate Bridge, maybe Alcatraz, ride a trolly and then go hoop. Doesn’t get much better than that, right?
S.J.C Greater NC Pro-Am. They call this place the “Rucker of the South.” Well, actually, they gave it two nicknames. “The Mecca of Summer League Basketball” is the other one. Either way, that definitely sounds like a place KD needs to be. It was started by Jerry Stackhouse and two friends and has seen a lot of college studs along with John Wall hoop there. But you can only imagine how hard KD would tear up a Southern Rucker. Sixty-six ain’t nothing, S.J.C. Greater North Carolina Pro-Am. Get ready for “Kevin Durant Catches Fire in the 4th Qtr (Unedited): Part II.”
Greater Springfield Pro-Am League. I can’t figure which Springfield this is — Illinois? Missouri? Massachusetts? It’s like a Simpsons episode — and the website isn’t exactly active, but surely whichever it is, KD can find some nice R-and-R running ball. Bonus points if it’s in Massachusetts because he can go check out his future plot at the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
Cleveland Am-Pro. Contrary to most reports, basketball in Cleveland did not actually die in 2010. People are, in fact, still playing. Not a bunch of big names at this league but 2011 NBA draft pick Norris Cole played there recently. What to do though other than hoop? Why check out the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, of course! And maybe go to that landmark where LeBron used to play too.
Delaware Country Pro-Am. This isn’t actually in Delaware. It’s in Delaware Country, Pennsylvania. In a little town called King of Prussia. After KD gets done with his vaycay there, he’ll be the King of King of Prussia. Or something. I’m already picturing Durant hooking up with Good AfterNoonan in a big showdown against KLM Insurance. I hear that’s a pretty serious rivalry.
Scion Dental Milwaukee Summer Pro-Am. You know KD’s going to get some serious competition in a league featuring teams like Gruber Law, Hodan Doster & Ganzer, and AthletiCo. I mean, that’s some big league stuff. One team, ESPN 540, has one of Ron Artest’s teammates on it too. That’s Quemont Greer of the Cheshire Jets, but maybe that could be a small taste of Metta’s defense on KD for a bit.
Maybe I misunderstood though. Maybe he’s looking for something a little different. Maybe a break from the usual stuff he’s been doing this some. So try these out:
Disney World, Orlando. It’s really too bad Space Jam was a Warner Bros. movie, otherwise KD would have himself a pretty good lineup to ball against there. Regardless, I think I remember seeing Goofy play some hoops in an episode of “Goof Troop” one time. Or maybe he was fly-fishing. I can’t remember. I’m sure Orlando’s got a decent league to play in. The games might be Saturday morning at 5:30 a.m. against a bunch of retired bankers, but look on the bright side: Maybe that would be a good time to work a little on the post game, eh?
Vegas. All KD has to do is hit up new OU coach Lon Kruger to find the hot spot for hoops on The Strip. Caesar’s Palace? MGM Grand? The Bellagio? Somewhere’s gotta have a quality game. One catch though: All games are just to 21.
London. Sure there are things to see like Big Ben, Parliament and Scotland Yard, but there real reason KD should go to London? To scout the floor for the 2012 Olympics. Those international courts can be a bit tricky and while KD certainly mastered the one in Turkey during the World Championships, a bit of extra preparation isn’t anything foreign to Durant. Plus, getting a feel for shooting in constant dreary weather would be good for him. He only got one season in Seattle, you know.
Thunder Practice Facility, Oklahoma City, OK. True paradise. Durant’s oasis in the desert. If there’s anywhere he’d truly love to be for a week, it would probably be locked in the gym with just him, his ball and some sneakers. Alas, he can’t go as his NBA passport has been denied, at least for now. Hopefully KD can get back to his dream vacation by November. Because I bet he’s getting tired of all this other crap.
