It’s a deal! KD and LeBron set a flag football game for Nov. 30

by Royce Young on November 10, 2011 at 4:03 pm 20 Comments

Oh, my bad. I guess I didn’t think that first part of the headline out that well. But anyway, big news! LeBron and KD are going to play flag football against each other Nov. 30.

LeBron tweeted Thursday afternoon, “Its all set people! Nov.30th Team @Kingjames vs Team @KDTrey5 in Flag football. Its going down. Can’t wait (Bart Scott voice) Lol.”

As for what the rosters will look like or where it’ll be at, that info hasn’t come out yet. I would imagine a good amount of friends and teammates will be involved. And knowing KD, he’ll probably just invite his buds from Sigma Nu to be his team.

Making a deal and having a season starting on Dec. 15th would be a wonderful early Christmas present. (Writing a letter to Santa.)

The only thing I am loving about how long this is taking is knowing that one of the Lakers' key role players most likely hasn't had time to workout very much and stay in shape during this extended off season what with other duties to attend to.

They're one of our main competitors for the conference championship, sue me.

Now they're talking about the possibility of a 72 game season starting Dec. 15 if they actually agree to it next Monday/Tuesday. That might be pretty tight.

@Old Man Game That is going to be tight, usually we are about 30 games in by dec 15th. So with 10 games removed and 1 extra week before playoffs, they are still trying to cram an extra 16 games into the schedule, probably a lot more back to backs.

Also the union needs to at least let the players vote on this, i do not think the offer will get better and the 47% and flex cap is much worse. Decertification is not going to get them a better deal even if they win they would probably end up at this 50/50 deal again and have lost a season. Should start tweeting players to take the deal.

looking more and more like decertification is going to happen.

they are going to have a press conference soon, both sides will speak

I wish there was a provision in labor law that mandated after a lockout or strike had gone on a given amount of time the sides had to submit proposals to a vote of their membership prior to making additional proposals. Sort of like how in NCCA FB after the 2d overtime you have to start going for the 2 pt conversion. I feel like if we could get a vote this thing would have been over a week ago.

@Old Man Game Trust me I want a season as much as you do. All of us do. But would you really want it to be A) the result of the equivalent of a blind vote and B) a deal where, God forbid, once we signed Harden, Westbrook, and Ibaka to their extensions, we weren't able to use any mid-level exceptions, and were stuck because of all of our cheap labor not being able to trade for much of anybody because of trade and salary matching rules either? Not only did the deal they would've voted on last week hurt players, but it could've proven tough on the (few) teams who have been smart with their money thus far.

I'm hoping that if I just have patience we'll come out of this lockout soon, win the championship, then go on to do a not five, not six, but seven-peat (see what I did there Lebron?)

@JimboSlice If Westbrook, Harden, and Ibaka are all good enough to sign and push us to that point, then it doesn't hurt us at all. Think about the non starters right now. Do any of them make more than a few million? No (not counting how much Collison made last year only). If our core develops into a contender, then the mini-mid-level exception is more than enough.

Don't forget we will be constantly stocking cheap talent in the draft as well. I don't think a harder cap like this one hurts us at all. The teams it hurts the most are those who don't draft well. The teams that NEED to draw free agents and make blockbuster trades are generally the ones that aren't as well run from the outset.

@JimboSlice@Old Man Game yeah a soft cap helps us now, a hard cap helps is in a decade or two.

@JimboSlice @f5alcon @Old Man Game oh I totally agree. The owners have been assholes about this whole thing. I'm personally furious with them. It is clear they don't give a fuck about the season. If they did they would have taken their win aand moved on when the players were at 53 and we could have salvaged the entire season.

@f5alcon@Old Man Game exactly, and personally, I would prefer not to have to wait until after Durant retires for the CBA to help us lol.

But as much as it pains me to say it, because I think it's complete and total immoral and selfish bullcrap that the owners won't negotiate fairly at all, I think taking this deal, with the 6 year opt out clause (and opting out at 6 years no doubt), might be as good as the players are going to get this time around with this set of owners.

By the next one hopefully most of these ridiculous billionaire basketball communists will have sold their teams and the players can negotiate with reasonable people.

Also hopefully by that time, the league will have proven that competitive balance can't be achieved by dollars and cents, and they can make some more common sense rules.

@JimboSlice _Good points. I guess I just have so much faith in Presti that I assume he'll figure out some way to make whatever system he's operating under work for us.

That's the spirit! Some NBA stars are just waiting in vain.

I can already see a broken ankle or torn ACL coming out of this.

@Grolgar the risk isnt much higher than the charity games that they are doing.
