Bill Simmons on James Harden’s rookie card: “More important, check this out: Harden has rookie cards on eBay right now going for $355 (14 bids already, five days remaining) and $148.50 (11 bids already, less than two days remaining). The extravagant price of the first card makes sense (just a little) because it’s an “Exquisite Gold Rookie Card” from Upper Deck and only 13 of them were printed. But there were 225 made of the second one — an Exquisite Rookie Card that doesn’t have the word “Gold” in it — and that’s where it seems like James Harden might be becoming a little overrated. Quick question: If you had $250 to 300 to invest in a relatively hard-to-find-but-not-impossible-to-find NBA rookie card, would you rather go with Harden (has a puncher’s chance of making the Hall of Fame if he stays healthy), Julius Erving (already in the Hall of Fame), Charles Barkley (ditto) or Bird/Magic rookies ON THE SAME CARD (and yes, they’re both Hall of Famers)? Call me crazy, but I’d suggest backing the guys who already made the Hall of Fame over the guy who might make the Hall of Fame if 15 different things go right. (Then again, James Harden’s beard IS awesome.)”
Neil Paine for ESPN.com: “Not every superstar has gone AWOL in big games, though. For instance, Kevin Durant has actually improved his PER by 1.1 when you give more weight to higher-leverage situations. However, that mark wasn’t enough to make KD the remaining scoring leader who stepped up the most in the clutch. That honor actually belongs to none other than LeBron James, who has come up huge in Miami’s two biggest games of the postseason so far.”
Alert: Derek Fisher leadership article.
Shoals for GQ: “The kicker: The Thunder, for all their chaos-sowing and trans-positional weirdness, are in many ways based on the Spurs template. Symbolically, their brilliant young GM Sam Presti came up in the Spurs organization. His career took off when he urged the team to target Tony Parker and was proved very, very right. Durant and Duncan are very different players, but both are superstars brought to town via the draft, big dudes with many dimensions to their game, and quiet leaders who dominate games without making a show of it. Westbrook is like Parker if the already feisty Frenchman mainlined an entire candy factory. Harden, whose pro role was unclear when Presti nabbed him in the draft, has emerged as nothing less than Manu Ginobili’s lone heir. Manu is a truly idiosyncratic player but the Thunder have locked Harden into that same role: part-scorer, part-facilitator, and equally discreet and aggressive. Oh, and he comes off the bench when his talent level would seem to demand otherwise. Thabo is Bruce Bowen’s Revenge. Perkins is the largely functional centers that San Antonio for years carried next to Duncan.”
Britt Robson of SI.com: “Both teams thrive via dominant offenses. The Spurs and Thunder ranked first and second, respectively, in points per possession during the regular season and have flipped positions so far in the playoffs. But the way they rack up those points is very different. San Antonio spaces the floor and moves the ball, seeking a high-percentage shot for any of the 10 players in its deep rotation. The Thunder rely more on isolation plays for their three stars — Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and James Harden — who all excel at penetration, three-point shooting, drawing fouls and operating in both transition and the half-court game. Whichever team is able to disrupt its opponent’s offensive juggernaut more frequently and effectively should eventually triumph in what could be an epic series.”
Darnell Mayberry: “Kevin Durant has some advice for Thunder coach Scott Brooks. “One thing Scotty needs to do is just shut up,” Durant said. About the team’s turnovers, that is. So far this postseason, Brooks’ silence has been golden. According to guard Russell Westbrook, the Thunder was terrible at taking care of the ball when its coach harped on it during the regular season. But when Brooks piped down in the playoffs, Oklahoma City immediately enjoyed better ball security. Which explains why Durant playfully suggested for his coach to put a sock in it.”
Russell Westbrook remembers Tony Parker’s 42.
Jim Polson of Bloomberg News on Chesapeake and the Thunder: “While the $8 million expenditure so far this year on the team is less than half of what Chesapeake spends drilling for oil and gas in an average day, it underscores how the company’s board hasn’t always erred on the side of caution while overseeing McClendon’s potential conflicts of interest. On May 27, the Thunder will add to Chesapeake’s bill when it enters a third round of playoff games against the San Antonio Spurs.”
Tony Parker on Westbrook: “I’m definitely going to go at him. It’s not going to be like Dallas or the Lakers, where their point guards are not as aggressive. I’m going to go at him and make sure he works a little bit.”
Ramona Shelburne of ESPN LA says the Clippers want Scott Brooks: “Sources say Brooks’ negotiations with the Thunder on a contract extension are unlikely to resume until after the playoffs, with Oklahoma City about to enter a Western Conference finals showdown with the Spurs. Yet the widely held assumption in coaching circles is that Brooks never reaches free agency and will reach terms quickly with the Thunder once the season is over, similar to the Dallas Mavericks’ speedy negotiations with Rick Carlisle earlier this month after Mavericks owner Mark Cuban put off all contract talks until Dallas was eliminated from the postseason. The Thunder are 8-1 in the playoffs, having eliminated the two teams — Dallas and the Los Angeles Lakers — that have won the past three NBA championships.”
A hefty preview from 48 Minutes of Hell: “The problem for OKC? Everything else. While OKC’s bigs kept Duncan from scoring efficiently, in no other way did they shut his role down. Duncan averaged 17 rebounds per 36 minutes with Ibaka on the court, and 15 rebounds per 36 minutes with Perkins on the court. Read that again. And while Duncan’s post-ups were dramatically less efficient, shooting 2-7 in the painted area, he shot slightly above his season average from the midrange. This partly explains why Duncan’s offensive struggles didn’t really impact the Spurs on a macro level. As long as Duncan hits his midrange shots to keep the defense spread, Tony and Manu have the space to go to work and dissect a defense with their passing. Especially when the bigs are so focused on shutting down Tim, which hurt their ability to help on the drive. It’s sort of a damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don’t situation — if you help off Duncan, you’re leaving one of the greatest post-up players of all time with open space. If you don’t, you’re leaving the lane open for the Spurs offense to explode. Hard to assess in the moment, easy to second guess.”
Zeke Campfield of NewsOK: “Finally able to communicate with friends and family, the first thing Norman Richards II asked about from his hospital bed Thursday was whether the Oklahoma City Thunder won the night he was shot. Well, Norman, they did.”

Okay, somebody posted it already but I'm posting it again because it's pretty damn funny:

It looks like 48 Minutes of Hell couldn't handle the extra DT traffic..... from their FB Page:
"It looks like we crashed our hosting server, we're working on getting it fixed as soon as we can. Sorry for the issue."
Maybe we can get Joey Crawford officiating all the games. LOL, I don't think he likes the Thunder much, but even more, I don't think he likes Tim Duncan. just sayin and just kidding, Joey Crawford shouldn't be officiating at a dog fight. THUNDER UP!
@ocdred Be prepared for five hour games.
This has probably been said several times....but, I think Ivey needs to get a lot of minutes in this series against Parker. We cannot have Fisher on Parker and I don't think Russ can defend Parker the entire game. Would Brooks do this?
@Thunder13 I remember Ivey giving Parker fits and forcing a turnover one time this season. I agree, even if its just a 2-3 minute assignment to give Russ a break. Would want those 2-3 minutes coming out of Fish's time, not Russ.
Yea, I agree. When Russ sits bring Ivey in if the match up is there. I would even consider leaving him in for our small ball lineup when Russ comes back in. Ivey-Russ-Harden-Durant-Collison. Just hope Ivey keeps workin on his 3's...Fisher has been makin his in the playoffs.

Rick Reilly article, "Siri discovers the OKC Thunder"

@Barry Amenema The Goodwill comment is hard to beat. Russell's fashion chatter continues.
No NBA basketball tonight for the first time in forever :(
For what it's worth we know the Spurs are playing ridiculously great, we know they're undefeated in the post season, we know anybody beating them will be difficult. But they're not the John Wooden Bruins or the lady UConn Huskies, let's relax. Thinking the Spurs will run through this team is laughable. For what it's worth they were like 21-3 in the regular season since the last played OKC. Like 13 of those wins were against non playoff teams and some of those were against bottom rung playoff teams.
They're great yeah yeah we know....this isn't some David vs. Goliath.
@SB718 I don't think anyone on here is saying that they are unbeatable...i'm just saying i see the Spurs as the better team and personally i think this goes 6 games
Lets hope this synopsis of russ from draft express comes to fruition this series:
"Defensively, Westbrook is nothing short of outstanding, as evidenced by the phenomenal work he did locking down the three top scoring guards in the Pac-10 this season,O.J. Mayo,Jerryd Bayless, andJames Harden. He is long, strong and very fundamentally sound, getting into a terrific defensive stance on every possession, moving his feet incredibly well, and being absolutely tenacious getting after his matchup. His wingspan, combined with his huge hands and outstanding anticipation skills make him a terror in the passing lanes, and this is a big factor why he spends so much time in transition offensively. From DraftExpress.comhttp://www.draftexpress.com#ixzz1vuDssOW9 http://www.draftexpress.com"
@Thunder S If you want him to commit 100% to defense, he's going to have to sacrifice a ton offensively pick your poison
@Lost Ones @Thunder S Can't we just post Russ up on Parker all day? I don't know how big Parker is, but surely Russ is stronger and this would flip the script, forcing Parker to exert extra energy on defense.
@Lost Ones @Thunder S Is RW's 100% on D enough to keep TP under 10 and 5? I somehow doubt it.
I say throw TP down the gauntlet. Russ, Thabo, and even Ivey.
This is what I would do if I was Scotty... bring Ivey when TP comes back in the late 3rd or early 4th for about 2 -3 minutes just to hound the crap out of him the way he did that one game. Almost like a hockey shift... skate your arse off for 30 seconds and sub off. Ivey is capable and if JH and/or KD are on the floor then it would be worth it. imo.
@ThunderBelize @Lost Ones @Thunder S It's a worthwhile thing to try. Brooks has been better with rotations so far. Maybe. Doubt it.
I used to really dislike Brooks as a coach. I'm warming up to him, I see some improvement. I've even kind of gotten over wanting another coach like SVG(I think he's great but his personality might grate on some guys, namely Westbrook). Having said all that the idea of the Clippers being hot on him as a candidate is kind of funny to me.
@SB718 It seems like alot of you dt'ers don't like scotty, and he makes some dumb decisions sometimes, but i don't think we can replace the chemistry he brings to the team. These guys really enjoy playing with each other and i think at least some of that credit goes to scotty. He's still learning this just like his players and the thought of the clippers having him makes me mad.
@SB718 The loss to the lakers was fully on him he kept westbrook on the bench entirely too long, with that said he is becoming better.
Actually that loss was on the guys in the striped shirts but that's neither here nor there. @Lost Ones
I want to get this series started!!! Our trump card is going to be the Harden facilitator factor. The Spurs had never seen that before. Harden is going to have to bring his A(Team; had to do it lol) game and be the reason we make it out of this series. I suggest putting Thabo on Kawl Leonard when the Thunder are on Defense. I would like to see Perkins keep Duncan out of the paint. Ibaka is going to have a tough time but I do not think Diaw is Dirk or Gasol at all and Ibaka did a very good job on them. Westbrook is going to have to play to his strengths when he guards Parker; what I mean by that is he is going to have to be risky when Parker passes, to try and get steals and disrupting Parkers path to the paint by force feeding him to where Ibaka can help. The I'd think Durant and Green would be very effective in leaving one-less shooter open for the Spurs.
Durant seems pretty mad, and I hope this wakes up the shooter I've been waiting to see all season long. I believe in the Thunder. Thunder in 6 games. Ginobilli is going to be as effective as he used to be, our bench can out-bench their bench... what? lol You get the point, The Thunder can actually steal Game 1 or 2, who knows? Thunder up!
@thelaughingwiseman I feel sorry for russ he has to do everything for our team... score, defend parker, run the team and gets little to no recongition at all in wins.
@Lost Ones @thelaughingwiseman Regardless of how he plays, Russ will get the blame for a lost series, as far as players go. People won't remember that he won the first two games of the Dallas series, keyed the big run in the third quarter of Game 3 of that series, was the driving force of game 1 of LA etc.
But they'll remember Durant's game-winners.
Unfair but I doubt it affects him. He's resilient.
@thelaughingwiseman why not thabo on parker and westbrook on leonard. To save westbrook for offense?
@criznazy53 @thelaughingwiseman Offensive rebounds. Leonard is a GREAT O Rebounder and russ on him allows him to play closer to the basket. It's step up time for russ if we want to win.
@Jooseppi @f5alcon Spurs are gonna pick and roll with duncan and parker, and then spread it out along the three point line with green, leonard, and bonner.
I don't know that we have really improved our pick and roll defense through out the seaon. It didn't seem like the lakers ran much of that. I think Brooks is really gonna have to study how to defend that. Maybe watch how the spurs defended CP3.Seems like they did a pretty good job.
I say let them have the duncan 20 foot jumper, then have let parker get his jumper going, but we can't let parker get into the lane, and helping too much off the three point shooters are gonna kills us. I say let Duncan beat us with his jumper.
I rather have them run their offense through duncan on the block and have ibaka or perkins go after him.
Its gonna be a tough series. We aren't gonna get the same type of turnovers that lead to the easy fast break like we did against the lakers.
@Jooseppi
I'm with you, Joo. The last 4 series the Thunder have played (Lakers, Mavs X 2 and the Grizz) have all had dynamic power forwards who could score. That made it really difficult to go small against them because KD defending them and getting rebounds was difficult. The Spurs don't have that luxury. Brooks will be able to go small with impunity in this series.
@f5alcon Frankly Brooks has to dictate how the team is going to play. He can't be reacting the entire series. There's obvious and not-so-obvious ways to get an advantage and mismatch and he needs to force Pop to live with it or react.
@f5alcon Defensively it doesn't seem so bad on the surface. Fisher can stay on his man well enough, and when he's matched up with somebody like Neal he's got his equal in terms of athleticism.
But ultimately it comes down to Manu/Parker pairs and how you handle them. Two out of three of Harden, Russ and Fisher/Thabo have to guard a good offensive player. Ideally, the choice is Russ and Thabo. If Fisher is in, it's Russ and Harden and Fisher on a SF.
The good news is Manu has been a ghost so far. That's really good news and bad news though.
@f5alcon And Brooks should, but Thabo is rarely that guy in small ball, it's Fisher. Which is an issue.
@f5alcon @criznazy53 @thelaughingwiseman I think we have to but I still worry about O rebounds. That's where they beat us even when we stopped the shooters. It has to be perkins in that lineup with Duncan but Duncan averaged 15 rebounds/36 against perk. KD's gonna need to average double digit rebounds for that to work. Essentially, everyone has to step up. But that's playoffs aint it?
@FREE_COLE @criznazy53 @thelaughingwiseman we could go small russ, harden, thabo, durant
@criznazy53 @thelaughingwiseman Yes for a while. But Thabo can't play 28+ minutes if we're gonna win. The Spurs got murdered by Beard and we need him out there as much as we can afford. For that to happen, Russ is gonna have to guard Tony. It's inevitable and time for russ to stop tony
@FREE_COLE @thelaughingwiseman Then i say russ on green, thabo on parker, and durant on leonard. I'm pretty sure you aren't going to see parker on westbrook for too long. I remember leonard on cp3 in the clipper series to save parker. We need to do the same with Westbrook but with Thabo.
*Durant on Green
Dear Citizens of Thunder City - This is not the time to panic. Are the Spurs a very good team? Yes. Do they deserve a high level of respect? Absolutely. Are the Spurs the MonSquad? No (and remember, the MonSquad gets beat). That's all folks! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJbOLMvKk1E
@OBoyzOld Man If you hit em high, hit em high (hit em high). I hit em low, hit em low (hit em low)... Goin straight to the hole!
is it bad that I refuse to bet any of my friends on this series? Hoping and Believing the Thunder can and will do it, but not willing to part with any money given how insane the spurs are playing.
@ThunderBelize where i bet the thunder are going at +175 to win the series
@bmuelle2112 I don't get into sophisticated betting. I'm a win or lose and you get _____ kinda gambler! Usually a bottle of Rum, which here in Belize is less than $10, but so unsure am I that I don't even want to lose the $10 (x 4 or 5 as most of my friends would bet Spurs either to spite me or because ESPN picks them!)
@ThunderBelize It's not smart to take the bet even if the Thunder are the better team because you can get a better price. Just remember what Lasker said "When you see a good move, look for a better one."
@ThunderBelize @bmuelle2112I have a much better idea than betting this match-up. Just send me rum.
@ThunderBelize Your friends have to give you a price. You have to get at least +174 and then it's a great bet.
http://www.sportbet.com/lines/nba
My gut says Spurs in six. But the Thinder _can_ win this series. I think they'll need to steal one of the first two games in SA...and Game 1 is likely their best shot. In Game 2, both Pop and Brooks will be responding to what they've seen in Game 1, and we all know who'll do a better job of that.
In Mexico there is a tale of 2 Aztec brothes. Both young men who are hunters for their village. There was a competition every year for the best hunter who could bring the most food and clean kills of animals to the tribe. The Prize being a amazing spear that had lightning inside it so when it pearced its prey, it would shock them to death instantly and the title of Chief. The older brother was an already proven hunter, having won the competition numerous years already. The little brother who was much younger, quicker, and hardheaded just started competing in the challenge. The day before the competition was the little brother's 20th birthday. A random shaman told him he would grew up to be a great leader, and chief for the rest of his life, but he would have to over go obstocles that'll only make him stronger. The legend goes on to say that on the days of the competition, the little brother went on to kill a 20 foot snake, a croc thats jaw was the size of a man, a condor 3 times his size, and a mountain lion who was infamous for never letting a hunter escape his grasp. He came back outmatching that of his brother who everyone thought would be the for sure victor. The younger brother would go on to marry the most beautiful women in the village, and reclaim his title of Chief, and the Spear for the next 45 years until the day he died. Thats what i think of when i think of the Thunder, and Spurs.
WOW!!! just read that 48MOH article... 4 of their 7 writers have Spurs in 5 or LESS!! Seriously!
@ThunderBelize they don't know how good we are
Lee from TBJ says Thunder in 6 everyone has Spurs winning in 6 or 7
