Lakers vs. Thunder: Game 5 Pregame Primer

by Royce Young on May 21, 2012 at 5:47 pm 2,036 Comments

vs.

Los Angeles Lakers (5-6, 1-4 road) vs. OKC Thunder (7-1, 4-0 home)

TV: TNT (Cox 31, HD 730)
Stream: Click here
Radio: WWLS The Sports Animal (98.1 FM, 640 AM, 97.1 FM Tulsa)
Time: 8:30 CT

Thunder lead series 3-1

View from the enemy: Forum Blue and Gold

The stakes are pretty clear. Win, and punch a ticket to a second consecutive Western Conference Finals. Lose, and the series goes back to Los Angeles and the Lakers live another day. The Thunder have won big and have won ugly.

The Lakers have some history in getting walloped in elimination games, but that can’t be assumed. It has to be just another night of focus and energy, and then let Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and James Harden take care of the rest.

Obviously not much has separated the teams the last three outings. I tend to lean that illustrated the small gap between the teams, but I still feel like a quality night is ahead for the Thunder. But then again, Pau Gasol hasn’t played well yet in this series and it seems like he might be due, especially after Kobe called him out. Things tend to work that way in sports. Sportswriters are already drooling over the angle of Gasol going for 22-15 the game after Kobe blasted him.

It’s going to be another stressful night because a playoff series isn’t over until it is. Talking heads can’t proclaim it done, but until the Thunder officially have that ticket stamped to San Anotnio, there’s work to do.

Tip at 8:30 CT. Go Finish.

I was there but we left early. It was like one section were real fans, and the other young latin, black, and a few white kids my age getting drunk. I say this because on my facebook a majority of my friends have pictures of themselves with a beer in their hand in the crowd, most not even old enough to drink. This isn't a party its to show your support for a team. I absolutely would hate for them to stop it all because i had fun with the crowd i was with, but if this contjnues then good riddance. Yes i pointed out blacks and latins. Im mexican born in se okc, and raised by mckinley park. Its the danm truth.

the western conference finals is going to be one hell of an offensive series both teams averaged over 103 ppg in the regular season and basically 100 or more in the playoffs

8 shot, 1 critical, 1 pregnant female with blunt force trauma. Other injuries not believed to be life threatening

@ryaber from the comments section of the News 9 article:

"My sister and her friends were just up there when the shot went off and her friend that is pregnant got pushed over and now there in the hospital with her right now :/ "

I'm assuming that's the same woman referenced in Ryan Aber's tweet

@Barry Amenema yeah the crowd seemed to panic, when i saw the crowd turn back towards me I went north of the ballpark

@f5alcon  @Barry Amenema I was right near that Sheriff's SUV parked in that circle drive. I ducked behind it and when the deputy made me move so he could get a shotgun, I went near the store front of the clothing store next to sonic. Crazy stuff.

if we can keep the spurs to their season average in 3pt shooting instead of the insane 51.9% they put up on us in the three regular season we have a shot...well that and a bunch of other things

duhsweetness
duhsweetness 5pts

@bmuelle2112 So far, Leonard, Green, Bonner, Neal, Diaw, and Jackson are all shooting above 40% from range in the playoffs. A few of those guys haven't taken that many, but the clip is still high.

@bmuelle2112 The most important thing will be Russ's defense on Tony Parker. Stop his penetration and you eliminate kick out threes.

It was easy to tell the two crowds apart from the shirts.  One was old and white, the other young and mostly black.

@OBoymuzik coming out of the arena.. it was very easy to tell the crowd that went to the game, and the crowd that went to thunder alley.

That being said, I'm ready for the Spurs. And so is our team.  They are on a mission!

SeanzieCrews

One of the people that got shot was a cousin of a kid and friend of mine that goes to OCU (where I go), he got hit in the shoulder. I'll try and get some more updates via Twitter.  I've been going to Thunder Alley since the very first one, and I love it.  I'm happy that OKC's fanbase is growing, but I get a feeling more people are there fort he social gathering and because it's there, than to watch the game and support the team. Which is sad.  We'll see if they continue Thunder Alley because it's supposed to be a "family atmosphere."  Such a damper on a great series win whether the shooting was related or not.

OBoy

@SeanzieCrews people are allowed to bring in beer and food to thunder alley right? that seems like a huge problem to me...much easier to do something stupid off a 12 pack of natty light than the thunders $6 beers

f5alcon

@OBoymuzik  @SeanzieCrews people were walking in with 24 packs under each arm.

@bmuelle2112  @OBoymuzik  @todayisbananas  @f5alcon So much alcohol and smoking, I don't see why anyone would bring their kids but I saw moms drinking with their babies in the stroller. It's sad, and I love Thunder Alley, but this can not continue.

@OBoymuzik  @todayisbananas  @f5alcon i'm surprised they allow food and drink in the first place...would of assumed they would want to make ppl buy over-priced beer and food

OBoy

@bmuelle2112  @todayisbananas  @f5alcon it'll be pretty easy to regulate tho...fence off the area thats thunder alley...do metal detectors if you want and don't allow food or drink coming in

todayisbananas

@f5alcon  @SeanzieCrews And seal off a larger area and charge a nominal entry fee. You won't have 10,000 people, but it'll be safer.

@todayisbananas  @SeanzieCrews it would be tough to do an entry fee because a lot of people are going into the arena

Can we just play the Clippers instead of the Spurs? Maybe we can find a loophole or something to exploit to make that happen.
