For whatever reason, it’s become A Thing for Charles Barkley to come to Oklahoma City. I’m not exactly sure why, but people are excited that he’s going to be coming to town for the Western Conference Finals.
He’s been one of the biggest critics of the Thunder, but has also said things like Oklahoma is “no place for black people.” So Craig Sager and Inside the NBA put together this little feature going to the most stereotypical Oklahoma place there is (other than Southeastern Oklahoma, that is) — Stockyards City.
Welcome to OKC, Chuck. We’re excited to have you.

That pic is hilarious. Why is he looking so scared? http://washingtonexaminer.com/files/styles/article-main-image/public/fileRU5yZQ
@diddoff Yeah that pic just looks odd.
@diddoff "I'm drowning! Save me!!!"
OT, I found this dorky pic of Harden from Feb. 20th.
http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/02/20/harden-collison-both-out-for-thunder-against-new-orleans/
election time will you guys re vote for Mayor Mick when he re runs for Mayor
@tydude Umm No..
@tydude I'd hope any decision about voting for public officials considers more than Thunder Alley.
Royce also says wonder if Bricktown establishments were a little miffed so many people were downtown but not spending money at their bar
BOOOOOOOO. No more Thunder Alley during games.
@gr8ball83 I wish they would give us another chance. At leasty have checking points, and ban BYOB. Anyone who looks suspicous should be force to leave the area. Banning BYOB, takes away half the crowd automatically.
@ElMexiThunder "Anyone who looks suspicous"
LOL, EMexi... when I left the game the other night, my friend and I both went "whoa" when we walked outside. I don't know what your definition of suspicious is, but under ours, there probably wouldn't be many people left if they were forced to leave the area.
@Tronchaser I laughed so hard when i read this..
@Tronchaser @todayisbananas There were a bunch of suspicious people trapped in the IHOP with us too.
@todayisbananas Definitely suspicious. :)
@Tronchaser I guess I shouldn't wear my cardio mask and weight vest, then?
http://www.weirdcrime.net/2011/12/03/man-wearing-cardio-mask-shuts-down-post-office
@ElMexiThunder @gr8ball83 It's kind of dumb, now the national headline will be "Thunder Alley shut down due to shooting" insinuating that the shooting happened AT Thunder Alley. It had nothing at all to do with Thunder Alley, which makes this a stupid decision.
@ElMexiThunder The reports I had from people down there was that the crowd was beginning to attract less savory types, and that the cops had fears about being able to control a crowd that size. The shooting may have provided an easy excuse to do something that may have happened anyway. Hopefuly, they'll bring the watch party back in a new and safer form.
@ElMexiThunder @gr8ball83 yeah 2 people ruined for 10,000+, i want to be on that jury, recommend life to the judge for sentencing.
@gr8ball83 Not only that but shutting down Thunder Alley lets the Thugs wn. Now the guy's friends will go around saying their the reason why Thunder Alley's done. They shouldn't ruin the fun for thousands of people because a few hundred went for all the wrong reasons.
@gr8ball83 it sucks but hopefully they come up with a better plan next season
Thunder Alley is now officially dead.
via Darnell: Thunder alley: Done! The team will continue to have pre-game festivities leading up to the game, but no longer will show the game outside.
Too bad. As others have said, I hope this also doesn't cancel the memorial marathon, opening night, the arts festival or any other downtown event that attracts a multitude.
@diddoff What a danm shame.
@diddoff Shame.
@Jooseppi @diddoff on the bright side more people will be watching it at home and ratings could go up and it sucks that who every shoot those people killed thunderAlley for us
@todayisbananas if you say the right words they will do a full cavity search ;)
I'm happy it's working out for you. :)
@ThunderChick2010 But, now I get fondled more often in public, so that's a plus.
@ThunderChick2010 which is also dumb, one day i will represent oklahoma in congress and get some of this insanity taken away
@tydude @Jooseppi @diddoff No one cares about Tv ratings dude, It's real upsetting because last year, and the first round this year, I use to take my little cousins, and my nephew up there to watch the games. It was fun and friendly. All of a sudden everyone heard the Lakers were in town, and everyone under 23 thought it was a party. Now the idiots in that crowd took away that experience from those kids, and i'm sure i'm not the only one who would take children up there.
@Jooseppi @f5alcon @tydude @diddoff It's the world we live in. Think of how a handful of people changed the way we fly forever.
@Jooseppi @f5alcon @tydude @diddoff A car accident isn't any where near as dangerous as a reckless shooter, firing shots at a huge crowd but i get you're point.
@Jooseppi @f5alcon @tydude It could. The year would be shortened by one day.
@f5alcon @tydude @diddoff I hope a car accident on 23rd doesn't shut down New Year's Eve.
@tydude @Jooseppi Yeah, 5k viewers more or less will decide TNT's fate.
@tydude @Jooseppi @diddoff yeah it sucks that some guy free on bail for felonies, was in a fight a mile from the arena, got the whole thing shutdown.
This is probably a stupid thing to say.
I was born and raised in the OKC metro. Current resident.
I've never been to Cattlemen's.
I'll go hide now.
@Jooseppi Cattlemen's is pretty good but the video does make it seem like OKC is full hicks and cowboys.
@Jooseppi not gonna lie, i ate there, not impressed. steak wasnt good, service was lousy. I didnt even finish my meal and the waitress was like..IS something wrong *sarcastically* i replied yes, your attitude and this mediocre steak. The manager came out to talk to me and couldnt believe i didnt like it * i only took like 3 bites btw* i told him ive had better and the waitress should be wrote up for her attitude. He begrudgingly waived off the ticket for me , and i will never go back.
@Jooseppi You're green! :) I've lived here almost my whole life and I've never been to Cattlemen's--or the Stockyards.
@ThunderChick2010 Yeah I haven't been to the Stockyards either. Do they take field trips there? I went to some cow place on a field trip when I was younger. Could have been there.
@ThunderChick2010 I think so. Too much urban sprawl for there to be more than one, surely.
@Jooseppi I don't know. There's only one cow place in Oklahoma though, right?
@Jooseppi Cattlemen's steaks are fine, but I prefer half a dozen other steak places to Cattlemen's.
@Jax Raging Bile Duct @Jooseppi Sizzler . . . Applebee's . . . Red Lobster . . . those round out your list, right?
@Jooseppi you are not missing anything, what steakhouse do you use?
@f5alcon Different places over the years. Boulevard, Mahogany and Red Prime are all pretty good.
@Jooseppi @f5alcon I'm a big fan of The Mantel and Red Prime.
At first I hated Chucky. He always bashed on OKC. And so has Shaq. But after listening to them on their show I think they do it more for comedy then anything else. Neither one has ever been here so hopefully they will have good things to say when they leave. But the more I listen to Barkley the more I laugh. He is the only guy who can say "OKC wont go anywhere they are a jump shooting team and no bigs inside" to "LA Lakers don't stand a chance against OKC, yet they have 2 7 footers"
@Thunderbuzzy I've always assumed Chuck was never being serious or at least he was just joking. Maybe he doesn't love OKC but he most likely will come here and say "it's OK. Like every one else does.
@Thunderbuzzy I'm pretty sure Shaq has been in OKC before. I remember seeing him when he was on Phoenix and Boston. But yeah, I don't take anything Charles says seriously. Even when he dogs the Thunder, the things he says and the way he talks makes it comical.
