Throwing your shoes at KD isn’t the best way to get his autograph

by Royce Young on July 25, 2012 at 4:06 pm 203 Comments

KD is pretty much the coolest. He gives his mom kisses on TV, he takes pictures with fans, he plays flag football with random people and he always signs autographs for fans before every game.

Except for when you throw your shoes at him. I guess that’s where he draws the line.

(Though if you’ll notice, KD catches the pen the person throws down and appears like he’s ready to go ahead with it before a security guard runs over and takes the shoes. Of course he was.)

Shoes are only for throwing when you’re doing it at a political figure. Everybody knows that.

@Crow ...you're being mighty pessimistic today. We have the defensive capacity to stop Miami, we just didn't maximize it due to poor play. We don't need to add anything as much as we just needed to get our heads out of our asses. And as for rebounding...well, we just need to rebound with our heart!

Crow
Crow 5pts

@Bryson I know it is a blast and maybe too blunt for many but I just had a little time to put some thoughts out there for consideration or reaction, if folks want. there can be plenty of things to discuss or not discuss. that it what i came up with at the time.

@Bryson   @Crow We had good all around defense, but we had no one who could have stayed infront of Battier in the time he was in there.  Collison and going small was suppose to be our hope, but Collison hardly got time and Ibaka could hardly stay infront of anyone (battier and Bosh).  And yeah we need to add post presence to atleast add some pressure in side, and I would not mind offensive rebounding at all, hopefully Cole Aldrich or Hasheem Thabeet can add that to our dynamic team.  Or ibaka can stop settling for long jumpers and play the post up

Crow
Crow 5pts

Thunder had 4 games with good  team offensive ratings against Miami and still fell 4-1. Maybe being good at scoring is not enough against them. Maybe you also need to be very good at rebounding or defense. They weren't. Has that changed? Doesn't seem like it.

thelaughingwiseman
thelaughingwiseman 5pts

@Crow A healthy Jeff Green would have done wonders during this last series.  We just needed someone to stay infront of Battier.  He was the most crucial pieace to the dismantling of the Thunder.  Their 3 point defense has been bad for about 2 years already.  I really thought thats what was going to do us in against SAS

Crow
Crow 5pts

@thelaughingwiseman maybe thompson or jones will hustle and provide some help but it is not what they are known for so far

Does any team have better than a 40% chance against a health Heat squad next playoffs? Maybe but I can't say for sure. If one does they will likely be top 5 or very near on at least 2 of the 3 of offense, defense and rebounding (broken out from the other two). Thunder weren't quite there last season.

Crow
Crow 5pts

Chicago was top 5 on 2 last season but run of the mill on offense even when Rose was around.

Miami was 8th on offense, 4th on defense. They were the best team standing.  And should be better this season.

Crow
Crow 5pts

@OBoymuzik on defensive RAPM allen is near neutral and lewis is estimated as better than average in recent years.

OBoy
OBoy 5pts

@Crow i agree that we need to value rebounding more with our roster moves...but you said the heat are going to be even better...they will be on offense but won't allen and lewis make them significantly worse on D while they're on the court?

Crow
Crow 5pts

Defense barely top 10 once in 3 seasons and not last season? Sure, give the coach a big 4 year.

Crow
Crow 5pts

With the best or second best offense, Presti makes all his moves to improve offense. He is not doing it the  old-school Spurs way. Not even close. It is more like the unsuccessful new-school Spurs or Suns at their peak.

Crow
Crow 5pts

@Crow Jones and Thompson seem like nice enough adds. But the team needs to win a title were defense and rebounding and neither helps with that and nothing else was done to address that from a personnel standpoint.

Crow
Crow 5pts

Westbrook and Durant turn 24 by the first month of the season and cease to be "real young" then.  Jones is the youngest guy on the team.

Crow
Crow 5pts

Heat have 9 guys 28 and older on their roster now. Thunder 2. Typical champ is far closer to the Heat on age than the Thunder

My workplace had "Thunder Thursdays" through the season, but I decided to make it so for myself today.  I figure it's schedule-release day, the eve of the Olympics, and . . . Thursday!

When people ask me who my favorite players are I never say KD, I like to keep it hipster with my answers usually, i dont want to say kobe/lebron/KD etc, but this is the kind of stuff I look for when I want to call someone a personal favorite. The guy right under me really made me think about it....here is person who gets SHOES THROWN AT HIM, not just one shoe either, a PAIR of shoes, and his first instinct is "I need a pen to sign these." Unbelievable. Royce should not have alluded to this in parenthesis, thats truly one of the most incredible things ive ever seen. KD is officially my 2nd favorite player now behind harden, apologies to Ricky, Hamed, Serge, and Kyrie. (Harden will never be replaced, we have gone through too much together)

it looked like KD really was going to sign them.  I'm really glad the security was careful and took hold of them though.  I do feel for the person who trough them at KD, I don't think they were trying to hit him, it seemed like a huge crowd was there, and the guy just tried and get them to KD.  I think KD was relating to that, he even looked up to grab the pen that was tossed to him.  I think he is much wiser than I give him credit for.  KD is one interesting character, he is very much an anomaly in the NBA as well as in this world
