Coach K at the idea Team USA ran it up on Nigeria: “We didn’t play LeBron [James] and Kobe [Bryant] in the second half, and with Carmelo shooting like that, we benched him,” Krzyzewski said. “We didn’t take any fast breaks in the fourth quarter, and we played all zone. You have to take a shot every 24 seconds, and the shots we took happened to be hit. I take offense to this question because there’s no way in the world that our program in the United States sets out to humiliate anyone.”
Via NBCOlympics.com: “On Thursday, roughly 15 minutes before taking the court, May and Walsh were greeted by Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant and James Harden on the warm-up courts outside the main beach volleyball stadium. The basketball players showed up to watch the greatest beach volleyball team ever. Then they found themselves trying to figure out how to block them, with a man advantage. The five athletes played a quick, impromptu game and the beach pros showed the basketball stars how tough it is to run around in sand. Durant — who has said he wanted to try beach volleyball — did record one block on Walsh, but it was after the women had already built a significant lead and were just toying with their millionaire opponents.”
Filip Bondy of the NY Daily News: “Kevin Durant went to beach volleyball, jumped into the sand and started hitting the ball between matches. He was quickly told to take a seat. This isn’t America, apparently, so he can’t do whatever he wants.”
The new Thunder Girls have been announced.
Marc Stein of ESPN.com: “The upshot of all that is that Team USA’s 47-point rout of the Tunisians, which caused so much consternation because of the Americans’ extremely slow start and wayward early shooting, is starting to look like a quality win compared to the struggles of so many top contenders. The Yanks, furthermore, are now certain to hear and read, over and over, how they’re increasingly untouchable at London 2012. Unbeatable after shooting 71.1 percent from the floor overall and 29-for-46 from that irresistibly shorter 3-point line while racking up 41 assists and forcing 25 fatal turnovers. Unguardable, even.”
Some jokes about Serge Ibaka’s headdress.
Video highlights of Team USA’s win.
Sekou Smith of NBA.com: “Kobe Bryant (16 points) and Kevin Durant (14) kicked off the festivities, each of them connecting from distance in the opening stages of the game as the U.S. lead grew to double digits in mere minutes. By the time Anthony hit the floor late in the first quarter the tone had already been set. He just fed off of what was already done. He connected on three straight 3-pointers to finish the quarter and went right back at it in the second. He had 19 points at halftime and had drained five of his seven shots from long-range.”

Im curious, Are there many good clubs in OKC? (sorry to poison the basketball thread with this)

@ou_sas Thanks!
Would someone PLEASE show Hakeem Thabeet how to release the ALL CAPS on his keyboard? Jeez louise. Almost as annoying as Nate's tweets. There, I feel better. Tahnks.
@OBoyzOld Man i like how when he retweets someone he retypes the whole thing in caps
@OBoyzOld Man his hands are so big he always hits the shift key
@f5alcon
Thanks - Much better than the explanations I had conjured up. Hope those big mitts can catch passes in traffic and/or grab rebounds. The fans in Tulsa have high expectations for THe Dream.
@OBoyzOld Man people show up to those games
This heat...kill me now.
@C-Wil
Got 5 drops of rain at my place at 7 a.m. today. I counted. Almost called in sick to work...then no 6th drop fell. Message from the rain gods: "No more rain for you, bro."
Is it too cliche to talk about how $*# !#&$ hot it is in OKC right now? I swore I'd never chit chat about the weather because only old men do that, but this heat makes me want to blurt out a string of curse words so perverse it'd make Trey Parker and Matt Stone blush. Three straight days of temps 110+ with a breeze on top of that! I walk outside to get to my car and it's like I just turned on a hair dryer full blast and stuck it in my mouth to inhale like a pot smoker.

@Jax Raging Bile Duct
Seattle anyone?

@ThunderChick2010 @Jax Raging Bile Duct Wait.... is this some subliminal message here that I'm not picking up?!?
@Tronchaser @Jax Raging Bile Duct
Just a nod to from whence we came . . .
Hey Tron, if bmuelle comes through with the preseason tickets, do you want one of the tickets for the Oct. 16 game? It's a Tuesday, and it's THE BOBCATS!
@ThunderChick2010 @Jax Raging Bile Duct I always laugh when people in England describe the mid 80s as "Unbearably hot." Which yes, I've heard, both from relatives and on TV broadcasts.
@Jax Raging Bile Duct oklahomans need to start living at night during the summer
@OBoymuzik
OBoy has been trying to promote this "work at night" campaign around my place. Ain't buying it. Easy for him to suggest when he sleeps all day anyway.
@Jax Raging Bile Duct
It's so hot I don't even want to run the A/C when I get in my car. It's just a high power fire fan by 4:00.
@Patrick OKC @Jax Raging Bile Duct turn it on then get back out of the car with all the windows rolled down to get the hot air out
@Jax Raging Bile Duct This may sound ignant but, Yall get winter? I'm thinking of coming out there in Jan.
@Tricia_status @Jax Raging Bile Duct
I've heard it said that our four seasons in Oklahoma are: almost summer, summer, still summer, and Christmas.
@Tricia_status @Jax Raging Bile Duct if by winter you mean the occasional cold-as-piss ice storm, then yes. (And I lived in Toronto for 3 years, so I can speak legitimately on what a winter should be).
@Tronchaser @ou_sas @f5alcon @Jax Raging Bile Duct OMG I was in the ROC. We had underground tunnels that lead to our classes.
You and I have shared the struggle.
@Tricia_status yeah, last year we didnt have any snow
@Tricia_status @ou_sas @f5alcon @Jax Raging Bile Duct I'm from Syracuse, and remember when there was 5 feet of snow outside and we still went to school. I loved it!
@ou_sas @f5alcon @Jax Raging Bile Duct well yeah I went to school upstate NY. But I've definitely seen a plow slide off the road.
In NY we proactive about this snow stuff...its not worth it in OK if the snow happens rarely.
@Tricia_status @f5alcon @Jax Raging Bile Duct The big problem is not driving in the snow, it tends to be other drivers who have no clue how to drive in the snow. That and Oklahoma is nowhere near as prepared as the northeast for clearing roads and the like.
@Tricia_status I am from upstate NY, so i understand a lot of snow, but they plow there, they don't here, they wait for it to melt, so a foot of snow is a foot on the roads
@ou_sas @f5alcon @Jax Raging Bile Duct
Translation: Thank you "Snow-salt Jesus"
@ou_sas @f5alcon @Jax Raging Bile Duct
Translation: Thank you "Four-wheel drive Jesus"
@ou_sas @f5alcon @Jax Raging Bile Duct My freshman year of college in the winter through spring we had 99 inches of snow.
Translation: Ya'll complaining about 1 foot. I eat those.
@f5alcon @Tricia_status @Jax Raging Bile Duct I was visiting family and was due to return that day. We ended up barely making it out of Will Rogers Long Term parking through several snow drifts.. My wife had work that night and had to have someone with an SUV come drive down and pick her up once we got back home.
@ou_sas @Tricia_status @Jax Raging Bile Duct I was stuck at work overnight in that storm
@Tricia_status @Jax Raging Bile Duct Very rare to get more than a dusting of snow - though about 3 Christmases ago, we did get a foot.
@Tricia_status jan average temp is 40
@f5alcon 3 degrees from freezing? Yup it does get brick out there.

Hey, @cleandoe you excited?
@EatSleepThunder OF COUrse!111!!111one!!!!!!1
If not for the Olympics, we'd still be talking about PJ3 and the recently-released schedule.
I'm okay talking about those things, btw. I'm just saying...
This is my saddest day as a perennial DT lurker. 23 comments!?
Anyway, my take on NBA x Olympics: Is it really the Olympics if you're straining out the cream of competitive crop? That would be like soccer teams not letting their players play due to injury risk. I'm not well versed in that sport's politics, but the thought of Barcelona keeping its BEST PLAYERS out of the Olympics seems ludicrous to me. Basketball is the same. The World Cup isn't the World Cup without Barcelona, Italy, Manchester City and Manchester United (only popular teams I know of but that's what makes the sport accessible to international newcomers - big name teams and players). Olympic Basketball isn't the same without top-tier NBA players - the Lebron James, Chris Pauls and Kevin Durants of the world.
@micahcj olympic soccer is 23 and under for mens
You can have 3 overage players though. Ryan Giggs is 38 and the captain of the GB team.
@f5alcon @micahcj Thanks for simplifying my comment.
I'm always doing that...
@micahcj It football (or soccer, if you will) it is an under 23 tournament with a few exceptions (3, I think). So it isn't really the crème de la crème, as such. Amazing players aren't in the cup but a few important players are - the rest are upcoming players who have a bit of talent. Apart from Brazil, because all their youngsters are amazing as well.
In basketball, I think it is the same really and wouldn't mind having an under 23 limit with 4 exceptions. I reckon that would give people the freedom to decline more willingly and yet we would still see some great basketball.
Also hi, and hope to see you here more often :)
@cleandoe @ThunderChick2010 Thanks for the welcome. The four exception rule, I think, would provide enough star power to win and also provide up and comers the chance to shine and (i use this word very loosely) earn their ridiculous 30 million 3 year contracts.
@micahcj
Welcome, lurker! :)
It hasn't escaped me that Serge is wearing more than one outfit in the fox/headdress photos. So this wasn't a one-shot deal . . . but part of some intriguing pattern? :)
From the video highlights . . . how 'bout that Westbrook steal to Durant to Harden?!
@ThunderChick2010 Any highlight involving one or more Thunder player is awesome to me.
