Bradford Doolittle of ESPN.com: “In the end, the Lakers still project to be about 3-4 wins worse than the Heat and Thunder. That might prove to be worse considering that Oklahoma City’s core entirely comprises players still on the ascent. L.A. projects to be better than every non-Heat team in the East, but to get a shot at Miami in the Finals, the Lakers not only have leapfrog the Thunder in the West, but also the Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers, San Antonio Spurs and — just maybe — the Minnesota Timberwolves.”
Tom Haberstroh of ESPN.com: “Think about this one for a second: Durant is 23 years old and just scored more points in one Olympics than any player in history (156). He made a mockery of the shortened international dimensions, drilling 3-pointer after 3-pointer during the tournament. All in all, Durant shot 52.3 percent from downtown and scored 30 points every 40 minutes in the eight games Team USA played. He made more 3-pointers than Anthony and Love combined. Again, 23 years old. As hard as it is to believe, he’s only getting started. If he continues to raise his passing game like he did last season en route to the NBA Finals, James will have some company in the “greatest player alive” competition sooner than we think. At his young age, Durant has somehow already earned the “greatest pure-scorer alive” label. Not bad.”
Serge Ibaka looks pretty happy with his silver.
KD on if OKC’s still the favorite in the West: “You never know, but we feel confident about ourselves,” Durant said. “The Lakers, we always respect them. We always have battles with them. I’m sure it’s going to be even more fun this upcoming season when we play against those guys.”
Berry Tramel on the Lakers: “The big, bad Lakers are back, just like always. Back enough to unseat the Thunder as the Western Conference champ? Not necessarily. But a lineup of Dwight Howard, Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Steve Nash and Metta World Chaos is a roving Hall of Fame exhibit. Four guys past their wondrous prime, plus Howard, who has gone from Superman to Superpain. There might be enough fuel in the tank for the Lakers to mount another championship run. Heck, the Celtics dang near made the NBA Finals with an Over-the-Hill Gang; no reason the Dwightmares couldn’t do the same.”
Matt Moore of CBSSports.com: “Durant proved in the 2010 FIBA championships that he could lead a team to a world championship. In the 2012 Olympics, he showed that he can be a part of a team, and be the tip of the dagger without demanding the ball. Durant is undoubtedly still full of disappointment off the Finals. But in his first Olympics, he set the record for most points in a single tournament. He introduced himself to the World, set a record, and won gold. Not bad for a 23-year-old.”
What might the 2016 team look like?
KD on playing in Rio: “We’ll see. You never know how these things are going to play out. Hopefully I get a chance to go to the next one.”
Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports: “Kevin Durant broke the American Olympic scoring record with 156 points, but James could’ve decided that he wanted the record and gotten it for himself. He controlled these Olympic Games the way he controlled the NBA Finals: always the proper blend of pass and score, defend and rebound. He’s forever dominant now.”
Josh Levin of Slate: “That seven-and-a-half-minute display of shooting, driving, dunking, and defense was the best demonstration imaginable of America’s continued basketball dominance. The fact that the 2012 Olympics team needed to go on that run to win gold shows how much the game has grown in 20 years. Yes, the original Dream Team had 11 Hall of Famers, but the best team they played against was a bunch of college kids. We don’t know how much the 1992-ers would’ve been tested against today’s competition, but we do have a good sense of the current state of basketball in the United States. The world’s best still isn’t good enough, but it takes our best to prove it.”

Love you some Bron much Adrian? If Lebron had a colonoscopy they would find Adrian Wojnarowski.

lol
I really wish we had Tyson on our team. He seems to mesh really well with our guys and would be perfect at the 5 spot for us.
/dream
@Tronchaser I'm sensing a TSN rating coming up.
@Tronchaser This is your whole idea?!
What a let-down
Serge is doing some UNICEF chairty work in the Congo now, hopefully he still has that trip to Houston planned before training camp. Tyson chandler is also doing UNICEF work and has cancelled his trip to work with Hakeem
I am rolling watching this TBJ link. ROLLING.
http://bit.ly/NwMYmS
No, seriously, watch it. Kinda-NSFW though.
Did he just say Russell the Wonder Muscle? I can see the next DT discussion now . . . all the nicknames.
@ThunderChick2010 I think we'll leave that for DT-late night. Some of the guys who end up getting on then will probably enjoy the discussion more, I think.
G'morning DT. Coffee still kicking in. Guess I missed a lot since last I was on. And in only one thread!
@ou_sas
Wonder if there's a mass hangover going on today? :)
@ThunderChick2010 Well after all of that alcohol earlier in the thread... :)
@ThunderChick2010 A-men!
@ou_sas
Thank goodness for coffee.
damn first time in a while we just had BOLTS and thats it, def a slow day. and bah i forgot to watch fallon, oh probably cause i like sleep more than jimmy :P . sorry beard and kd but ill catch the highlights later

looool even tired, they're hilarious, or hilarious cos they're tired.
Illuminate representin on Fallon!
Ok, no more I promise.
they were there to promote the nike fuel band basically...which is good that harden's getting some endorsement money
@OBoymuzik agreed. that was awkward. i was amped to see them on late night anyway.
Harden was checking out the chicks in the audience
@OkcBaby wouldnt be mad with him getting an NYC chic. They won't be rivals of ours anytime soon.
Yeah they seemed a little out of it lol
KD: I wanted to stay in the Village.
OF COURSE you did. Lol
Maybe next time we should give them a week to wake up, get back on the right time zone, detox from the hangover, recover from all the sex and sports before interviews. Dudes were so unenergetic
@DennisBerry sigh......man i dont know what it is with you and kd and them just obsessed with sex. you assume WAAAAAAAAAAAY to much man.
Good for them. Hahaha
JF: What do you think of Dwight Howard going to the Lakers?
KD & JH: *shrugging* We don't care.

@SergeIblocka @ThunderChick2010 Read: "They're probably so old, they need the help to be a challenge to us anymore!"
@ou_sas @SergeIblocka
Judging by the way our guys WANTED the Lakers in the playoffs last year--even if they didn't admit it right away--you know they're thinking, "Bring it on!"
Bring on KD and the Beard!
Estimates on how many "u guys must hate Oklahoma, it's all rednecks" style jokes Fallon is gonna make. I'm saying 3
@DennisBerry
At least one . . . and the mascot makes an appearance!
@ThunderChick2010 @DennisBerry
50/50 on predictions. Still, not bad.
I hope this Jimmy Fallon interview is as good as KD's Jimmy Kimmel interview.
@novelisticbee0 I watch Craig Ferfuson! The funniest person out in late night televison with limited budget for production!
@thelaughingwiseman @novelisticbee0 Crag Ferguson is as funny as watching paint dry. It's a generational thing maybe though.
@thelaughingwiseman @novelisticbee0 Nope. Used to be a huge Conan fan back in the NBC days when he had characters like the masturbating bear, cameltoe annie, and Andy Richtor as his sidekick. I can watch Leno, but his jokes are more snooty funny than just funny.
@DennisBerry @novelisticbee0 I bet you find David Letterman hysterical
@thelaughingwiseman Man, I do too. I love that he just has a conversation with his guest and how off topic they get. You really get to know the celebrities on his show more than the other, imo. Plus, Geoff is hilarious.
@thelaughingwiseman The whole "I got a place there" bit is my favorite, especially this one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAHSUTB5BJc
Every time Craig makes himself laugh/cries, it's the best thing ever.
@novelisticbee0 Wait... *ding dong* Who's that at the door!!?? Secretarioooootttttt!!
Something that's really fun to do: going to the "last" page of DT and reading forward.
It's so funny where we started; and it seems like just yesterday that I was wasting endless hours on the back-porch of my college-apartment, Thunder-talkin with my buddies ("yeah man, I really hope Kyle Weaver starts getting more minutes; the guy is always making plays!"). At any rate, this one was a good one (from 11/20/2008: "Let's Just Go Ahead and Start Looking Forward to Next June"). http://www.dailythunder.com/page/423/Royce on Harden: "James Harden – Arizona State Get ready. I’m about to do it. I’m about to compare a black guy not just to a white guy, but to a Spanish guy. James Harden reminds me of Manu Ginobili, except without all the falling down. He’s lefty, he’s talented but he gets his points in different ways. He’s not your traditional scorer. He’s does little things well and scores a lot of awkward baskets. If the Thunder somehow fall to the fourth, fifth or sixth pick, this would be a pretty good one." (Yeah, Harden never developed that propensity to fall down ;) .....)
Royce on Byron Mullens: "He’s clearly got ability. He’s 7-1 and is extremely athletic. But one thing about him is nobody will know if he will be NBA ready when he comes out after this year. Watching video of him, I see a little Greg Oden in him, just because of his length and the way he dominates the post. But he’s so much more athletic than Oden. This pick wouldn’t hurt OKC. He should be a nice post player in the future, but I don’t see him as an immediate impact player. Right now, the Thunder doesn’t need anymore projects and I fear Mullens would be one."
PS, where were y'all? Some of those Bolts have only 1 or 2 comments!!
Also, endlessly impressed with the dedication that Royce gave to Daily Thunder; it seems like a given now with the blog's popularity, but it didn't come without a lot of toil. Thanks for everything, Royce. You've made the Thunder way more fun for me.
@D@nny *Last year meaning the 2010-2011 season.
@thelaughingwiseman Definitely doing that with the Thunder. I just don't like the players on the Hawks. Lol
It's about sticking with your teams through the worst of it is the true test for a fan. I've been a Bengals fan and they have just gotten out of the dark ages. Lucky Durant came and only suffered 3 years of it.
@thelaughingwiseman @D@nny Yeah, the whole flip flopping thing isn't my thing either. I just couldn't bring myself to cheer for the my home team. I just like what the Thunder stand for, and once I looked into the team and saw how much progress they've made over the years, I got hooked.
@novelisticbee0 @D@nny @nny But I don't like flip flopping teams so I stuck with them
@novelisticbee0 @D@nny @nny I went for the Sonics because they had Oregon Duck color scheme. Than I realized they were from Washington not Oregon (early highschool, middle school days; so pardon my stupidity) which was a big mistake
@D@nny I didn't actively watch basketball games, or have a team I could stick with, until last year. Even then, it was mostly the Bulls for me. I can't remember the first Thunder game I watched, or how I stumbled across DT, but I'm glad I did. :)
@D@nny I was at welcome to loud city and other Thunder/ Seattle blogs
@D@nny Seattle Supersonics fan since the days of Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis. So I was a pretty young fan compared to the other sonic fans who were devastated to see the team go
@thelaughingwiseman big mistake.
