how the hell am I just now hearing of this? This is huge.
a while ago @Crow mentioned a spike in Westbrooks assists last year when maybe he was scared of being traded, I would love for Harden to get scared into improving his defense
@Crow and also Perk getting scared into playing better if he thinks he might be amnestied
@OBoymuzik is he scared of that? i dunno. might be a blessing
@OBoymuzik paid for no work, no travel
Whoa, this upcoming year the thunder are 10 million over the cap; at 68 million. And I think over 72 million is where things get dicey
Serge's minutes have to go up now, right?
@justin_mia They should.
@justin_mia i would sure hope so, but anything (bad) is possible with Brooks at the helm.
@justin_mia One would imagine and I hope so. Hopefully we go a nine man rotation and have Ibaka check back in late in the first quarter.
@justin_mia
Why?
@FF_pickups don't think he'll be paid $12m to play 27 minutes a game
@FF_pickups @justin_mia i think ibaka will drift up into the low 30s. Presti picks and pays, Brooks plays
@justin_mia
I don't think that Brooks is going to give out minutes based off of contracts.
Jeff Green 4/36, funny how that worked out.
@justin_mia they probably trade him at some point. it looks like a contract to be traded later deal to me. or they are stupid.
@Crow @justin_mia bill simmons thinks they are giving him extra to repay him for cutting him last year after the heart condition was found
@justin_mia
funny or annoying?
@FF_pickups @justin_mia What?
Hope he comes back and plays great this year.
@dancassidy35/FreeFestusFromGSW! very little has changed in his stats year to year (NBA or back in college too). the biggest change since his rookie season to last season is that he has cut his turnover rate almost in half.
@DennisBerry @dancassidy35/FreeFestusFromGSW! he was a bust from the standpoint of overall impact for a #5 pick
@Crow @dancassidy35/FreeFestusFromGSW!You guys consider Jeff Green a bust? He was a pretty good player IMO, I mean 17/6 is nothing to sneeze at, but he was obviously played out of position here because him and KD are both 3's and getting traded to and resigning in Boston where he's behind all stars in the depth chart isn't going to do much for his stats.
@dancassidy35/FreeFestusFromGSW! all of Presti's busts or potential busts went to big name basketball schools. Jones is not in that classification.
@dancassidy35/FreeFestusFromGSW! that and the mock draft consensus that he should have gone 8-10
@dancassidy35/FreeFestusFromGSW! the no change in Green's college stats year to year was a main reason I was not comfortable with his pick on draft day
Just for curiosity's sake, have any of the other big names from 2009 been extended? I know Tyreke hasn't, nor Curry and Thabeet
@dancassidy35/FreeFestusFromGSW! Blake Griffin.
Wonder how the contract is structured. Presti does weird things with contracts sometimes.
@justin_mia I am not sure if he can do this under this CBA but he might be able to pay Ibaka $13.7 mil in 2013-4 then drop to $7.7 mil and then increase the max allowed the rest of the way back up to about $9.6 mil. Maybe that would make for one and only one luxury tax hit and the cheapest version of that hit..
@Crow @justin_mia
Can't frontload contracts like we did with Nick because we are over the cap.
@Crow @Jooseppi @FF_pickups Makes it easier to trade him, if necessary, down the road.
@Jooseppi @justin_mia @FF_pickups i messed up that first strategy in two ways.
it appears you could pay $13.4 mil this season and then have it decline to $10.6 mil by the end. if the player and agent agreed.
@Jooseppi @justin_mia @FF_pickups i see it now, thanks
@Jooseppi @justin_mia @FF_pickups ok. i wasn't motivated to find that kind of detail right now
@Crow @justin_mia
I think you can have them increase based on some estimation of the increase of the cap each year.
@justin_mia @FF_pickups @Crow 7.5 percent decreases are possible.
@justin_mia @FF_pickups i am not sure. just speculating based on what you used to be able to do.
@FF_pickups @Crow I think you can make them de-escalate though, like Bulls did with Kirk Hinrich. i.e. certain percentage decreases instead of increases. Probably not likely.
Long way away but right now every team in the league could bid on Durant in summer 2016. Miami has zero dollars obligated for 2016-7.
@Crow as long as we get a rind out of him we are fine.
@Lost Ones they already got a rind this past season
@Crow @Lost Ones
I think we've all got a little "misfit" in us to a degree. :)
@ThunderChick2010 @Lost Ones I appreciate your comment and I accept it. My annoyance is more with myself and what I write and don't write and how I fit or don't than anything so don't take my talk of annoyance too personally. I appreciate the banter and teasing to a degree, I just don't want to get sucked up into it too far.
@Crow @Lost Ones
Had to google it to make sure you weren't pulling my leg. You weren't. Btw Crow, if I truly was annoying/offending you with my posts yesterday, that was not my intent. It was meant to come across as good-natured teasing . . . I really do enjoy reading you.
@Crow @Lost Ones
This reminds me of cleandoe's Grape Drink post from yesterday . . .
@ThunderChick2010 @Lost Ones have you heard of grilling watermelon? i hadnt til sometime earlier this year. got to use good judgment on the grillin time. would Perk grill watermelon? Probably not. If Perk grilled watermelon would he use good judgment, maybe not the first time. Would Perk like grilled melon? O for sure. And making $8+ million a year he can hire someone to grill his watermelon.
@Crow @Lost Ones
This could leave us scarred.
It's different CBA's and all but Ibaka got the same per year as Horford and Noah did.
But can Noah and Horford block/create offensive rebounds for the other team like Serge does? I don't think soooo!
@Arent Noah is better than him if he's healthy and Horford is too.
@justin_mia @Arent No way!
@justin_mia @FF_pickups @Lost Ones i would have preferred noah on his first contract over the second one and i am not if i would go big on the third one
@justin_mia @FF_pickups @Lost Ones alright
@Crow @FF_pickups @Lost Ones Right, but many of those games he's hurt to the point that it's clearly affecting his play. Like Thabo and his feet.
@justin_mia @FF_pickups @Lost Ones he has played 84% of the his possible regular season games. bad but not real bad
@FF_pickups @Lost Ones As an aside, I'm a massive fan of Thibs as an assistant but do not like him as a Head Coach.
@FF_pickups @Lost Ones For being injured all the time, maybe.
@Lost Ones
Noah has a far superior defensive coach. If he were here, you'd complain about him constantly.
@justin_mia @Arent noah has low key emotional issues as well it seems easy to take him out the game mentally.
@Arent I think I'd rather be paying Ibaka $12M than Noah though, because Noah can't stay on the court and even then he's playing through injuries half the time.
Bargnani got 5/50.
Al Jefferson 5/65, David Lee 6/79... there are worse contracts out there.
@justin_mia and RAPM estimates him at a modest negative overall impact
@justin_mia well i'll modify this a bit. he did get better this season on boxscore stats but he still is nothing special
@justin_mia yes but bargnani is not getting better as expected / hoped / promised
@FF_pickups He's not a scrub he's great but I admit some of the day dreaming about training with Hakeem, post game, etc. compels me to post about him more negatively. I like Ibaka a whole lot. But I am concerned about his year two to year three progress, relative to many other good players who make larger gains in that period.
@justin_mia
Every time you talk about Ibaka, you make it sound like he's a scrub. The guy just signed for 12 million a year. Presti obviously disagrees with you.
@FF_pickups What are you talking about
@justin_mia
I told you it was going to happen. You are really negatively biased towards our players. He's held in a much higher view by the rest of the NBA than you hold him.
@justin_mia One of the first signs that Bryan Colangelo wasn't going to succeed in Toronto.
