Eric Freeman of BDL on what a gold does for KD: “When a player leads the NBA in scoring for three consecutive seasons, it’s difficult to imagine that his reputation as a producer of points could actually improve. However, Durant was so fantastic in his eight games — breaking the U.S. record for points in an Olympics and winning the tournament scoring title — that it’s only going to become easier to mention him as one of the best scorers in history, not just in this era. We didn’t really learn anything new about Kevin Durant in this tournament; he just continued to establish that he’s a historically great player worthy of all the praise he receives.”
James Harden on winning gold: “It’s hard to explain,” said Harden. “Just being on this team with this great group of guys, competing for a gold medal and reaching our goal is overwhelming … Every single day it was something different. Especially, like I said, being with these guys. You get to watch them play basketball, you play basketball against them, but once you are the same team you get a feeling for who they are as a person. Every single day was something different and I am just happy to be a part of this team.”
Bill Simmons in a mailbag on LeBron and KD’s chemistry: “Totally agree — maybe Bird and Magic in their primes would have blended together for more artistic reasons, and maybe Pippen and Jordan are the best example of two teammates completing each other, but what made the LeBron-Durant pairing so much fun was the way they blended idealistically. It just worked. They seemed to be genuinely invested in the other’s success. That’s another advantage 2012 has over 1996 — name me two people on the 1996 team who would have been genuinely invested in the other’s success.”
Henry Abbott of TrueHoop on the idea the “system” favored the Lakers in the Howard deal: “The Magic took a bad deal because that’s what they were looking for. That’s something the NBA should change. The best players in the world almost all go high in the lottery, to a collection of the teams that lose the most. If the best players found employment almost any other way, there’d be no reason for the Magic to have made the crucial decision to make the rich richer and the poor poorer. But for the lure of high picks born of terrible play, the Magic would have demanded great heaps of talented players for Howard, and the league wouldn’t feel so lopsided.”
Who are the next stars likely to hold their team hostage?
Jeff Caplan of ESPN Dallas ranks OKC second in the West: “Hey, we still love these guys. Kevin Durant might win 10 more scoring titles in a row, Russell Westbrook will continue to mature and James Harden and Serge Ibaka only seem to be scratching their potential. So why is it seemingly so easy to rank the West champs behind the Lakers? Because L.A. has double the number of scoring threats and that new defensive stopper in the middle.”
David Aldridge of NBA.com: “Now, the Thunder have to reassess. Now, the Clippers have to regroup. Now, the Spurs have to rethink. There have been rumbles that Oklahoma City was going to use its amnesty provision on Kendrick Perkins in the near future. That’s over now. Perkins and his limited offense — but great post defense over the years against Howard — are back in the mix. The Clippers suddenly look a body short. And Big Boy Basketball, banished to the corner while the Heat and Thunder went small in the playoffs and won, may be back on center stage.”

Lillard is overrated and feeling too confident after the silly half-ass summer league.
@Crow I think he's going to be pretty good, maybe never elite but something similar to Lowry
@OBoymuzik might be more like Monta Ellis but we will see...
Aldridge should probably bail on Portland if he is about winning.
@Crow Aldridge is the forgotten man, he gets left out of conversations about elite 4's in the league...finally made the all star team this year and Scotty barely played him....makes sense for him to stay in Portland
@OBoymuzik touch n go i think. wait n see what happens this season and maybe next. he'll probably stay if it is not bad but it could be.
Picture of maynor working out at the practice facility today

Can anyone tell who that is working out on the other side of the gym? Maybe Perry or Hollis? Don't think it's Reggie
@OBoymuzik he look high off the free throw line....like near the key. Maybe its Hollis
The low top shoes make me think it's perry because he wears the KDs but I have no idea what Hollis wears lol

What do you guys/girls think the over/under is on the number of games that all three of these people will play together this coming season. Kobe - Nash - D12.
@Tronchaser it depends on if the rumors about howard sitting out to january are true, really it doesnt matter, as long as they are healthy in the playoffs they are scary, but if they are injured in the regular season we can avoid them longer if we get the number 1 seed
I'm gonna say 45.
@Tronchaser Well, Howard's missing 20 games or so right off the bat, so that dramatically reduces the number of potential games to begin with.
I'll actually take the Under on that. Niggling injuries and all.
@ou_sas @Tronchaser Just under. For the same point ou_sas raised
The 2012 Men's Olympic basketball team had 5 players on the team that currently or previously represented OKC. .(KD, Russ, Harden, CP3 and Tyson Chandler.) Three of them were starters.
Damn those doctors that cancelled the Chandler trade, yet approved the Perkins trade.
@Skyline All responsibility for the decision lies with Presti and ownership. The doctors just advise or should.
@Skyline and who cost us a draft pick....
@Barry Amenema @Skyline Still don't buy that. I still am of the belief that Stern did that because Danny Ainge whined to Daddy that mean Sam Presti took him to the cleaners.
Barring any injuries to the Lakers, the team will probably going to win a ring this coming season..howard will probably give the team a defensive player with an impact close to what garnett did to the celtics when he turned the them to one of the greatest defenses , with a horrible defender in ray allen, and barely average defender in paul pierce..durant and westbrook wont outscore this team and harden would probably be the lakers 5th best player, unreal! if the lakers have injuries its a different ball game..i love the lakers, but durant and westbrook are one of my favvorite players but i just dont see anyway OKC can beat the lakers..
If you're a Laker fan, one thing you should have learned long before this recent trade is that KD & Co. are not afraid of the Lakers....at all.
@kennygee90 They don't just look at your team and give the championship up. Howard is a better defensive player, Bynum much better offensive. Howard terrible shooting free throws. I think we can still beat them, my opinion, that's why they play the games.
@kennygee90 i don't see the lakers keeping this team together for more than 1 year, Even with lucrative tv contracts. They going to pay in neighboorhood of $85-100 mil in luxury tax. Buss family is rich, but not that rich.
@neo12 you shouldnt worry about the lakers, the team will probably suffer one more year of paying luxury tax..we only have steve nash signed after 2014 and if we resign howard that'll only be 2 players..the new CBA requires you to be under the salary cap for 4 out of 5 years so im guessing the lakers will choose that year..OKC has a big problem though depending on how much they extend or resign harden or ibaka
@kennygee90 @OBoymuzik @f5alcon @neo12 Long time reader, first time poster. Figured I'd break the ice in response to a displaced laker fan. The Thunder are a bit of a hobby / toy of passion to Clay Bennett. His wealth is generated entirely independent of the Thunder through other business ventures. As is that of many of the other members of the OKC ownership group. However, for the Buss family, the Lakers are the family business. They are entirely dependent on laker generated revenue for their cost of daily living, they don't have any independent sources of income. Clay Bennett (et al) can afford to mimimalize basketball related income because they can generate millions in other areas. The Buss family can not. Point being, if an owner had to dig deep into his pockets to pay a tax, the OKC group could probably dig much deeper than Buss if they wanted to
@kennygee90 @OBoymuzik @f5alcon @neo12
@kennygee90 @OBoymuzik @f5alcon Yeah, we'll see how the new CBA works out. In the end its a business, and the owners will only spend the money if they think they can make it back in sales and tv contracts.
@kennygee90 Howard by himself might have guaranteed 50 wins... in the East...
@OBoymuzik @f5alcon @neo12 unless your owner is glad to lose 50 to 100 million every year..i think he wont do it..but the annoying thing is bad teams will be rewarded for being horrible
@kennygee90 @f5alcon @neo12 Us*
@kennygee90 @f5alcon @neo12 Nba finals probably made is some money :)
@kennygee90 @f5alcon @neo12 Glad you know all about clay Bennett's finances
@f5alcon @OBoymuzik @neo12 the repeat tax penalty for being for being oever the cap 4 out of 5 years is scary..OKC doesnt make that much money...you'd have to basically to let go of most of your players and have durant, westbrook and scrubs
@OBoymuzik @kennygee90 @neo12 even if harden is expensive we can still afford him our team makes money
@kennygee90 @neo12 First you guys said Westbrook would be the next lakers PG, now you're banking on is not keeping harden or ibaka...we're keeping one for sure and it's most likely harden...get used to us
@neo12 OKC is in for big trouble, cause i doubt harden takes a pay cut less than 12 mill..if that happens be ready suffer the consequences..and the lakers might resign howard..then struggle in 2014-2015 season then go right back to winning rings by taking another teams superstar..besides howard by himself guarantees a 50 win team
@kennygee90 Yeah, i think nash, kobe will be gone by then. I think pau goes before then. I think OKC will be alright, lakers have a rented team, cant sustain that.
@kennygee90 if your a laker fan how can thunder players me your favorite players? thats like a Boston Fan liking A-Rod and Jeter
@bmuelle21 i dont hate your team, you guys just came up a couple of years ago..now if yall were the celtics that would be different
@bmuelle21 they don't view us the same way we view them
@kennygee90 yeah that whole staying healthy thing is going to be a problem, howard has back issues now, nash has back issues, kobe has knee issues.
@f5alcon yea injuries will be a big concern...Kobe said his role on the team is going to be a closer so it'll be interesting to see how that works out..but im curious to see what improvements durant and westbrook make this upcoming season..hope their decision making improves cause that seems to be one of the few things they have trouble with
@kennygee90 Can you tell us more about this lakers team? Since you've seen them play so much
@kennygee90 Then you can just git out.
The Lakers have double the number of scoring threats?! Having two top 5 scorers in the league and one of the most efficient SG's in the league coming off the bench is unimpressive I guess. The Dallas writers still hate that "little brother" passed them by so easily...
@Fuzzy Logic yeah they aer just mad that they didnt get deron and howard and all they have is dork.
@Fuzzy Logic You might even say those Dallas writers were using some... fuzzy logic.
@duhsweetness @Fuzzy Logic Aww man. I've been holding out that joke for ages now. Just waiting for the moment :(
@cleandoe @duhsweetness Don't worry... neither of you are the first to pull that one out... it was kind of the intention when I chose the handle...
"Also, if the 2008 Olympics led to The Heatles, pay close attention to the Thunder's cap machinations leading up to 2015. Russell Westbrook is a tricky little man."
