Dwyane Wade to Maxim: “During the finals, it seemed like you and LeBron were having a style contest with Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook of the Thunder. Who do you think won? It wasn’t even close. We’re way better dressers than they are. I dunno. Even LeBron seemed to think those “Dwayne Wayne” glasses went a bit far. I was holding that in my back pocket for a while. I’ve been called Dwayne Wayne so many times over the years, and we were all going heavy with the glasses, so I thought I would really shut it down.”
Ben Golliver of CBSSports.com on James Harden who is ranked the 29th best player in the NBA: “One of the league’s fastest-rising stars, it’s conceivable that James Harden could have been even higher on this list had he not had such a disastrous 2012 NBA Finals against the Miami Heat. Harden took home the 2012 Sixth Man of the Year award for his big-time scoring and playmaking ability off the bench. An excellent complement to Russell Westbrook, Harden can take over ball-handling duties when necessary and got to the free-throw line six times a game last season. Throw in a career-best 39.0 shooting percent from deep and you’re looking at an offensive efficiency monster. Harden made the cut for USA Basketball’s London Olympics team, too, winning a gold medal in the process. What better way to erase the sting of a Finals that saw him average 12.4 points on 37.5 percent shooting? As good as this year was, the future is even brighter. Harden is in line for a max contract extension — although the Thunder would love it if he sacrificed some dough for the good of their luxury tax cause — and a lengthy run of All-Star Game appearances. It’s certainly possible that he finds himself cracking the top 20 of this list within a year or two.”
Metta World Peace says the Lakers are the team to beat and talks KD and LeBron.
“The Picker” of the Tulsa World: “Becoming friends with a chief opponent? The one who just beat you out of a title? That’s an absurd thing to do. The great players have never been friends with number one foes. You don’t have to hate somebody to compete intensely against his or her team. But disliking an opponent to a high degree is about where you want to be. Do you think any of the best Celtics or Lakers were buddy-buddy with the ones they wanted to stomp into the woodwork? You can’t run over good friends.” All together now: Larry and Magic, Magic and Larry.
Golliver on Russell Westbrook, who is sixth: “Is this too high for Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook? A case of “too much, too soon” for a 23-year-old with a high turnover rate and occasional problems controlling his temper? The case against Westbrook got harder, if not impossible, to make in 2011-12, as he helped propel a young and dangerous Thunder team all the way to the Finals. Was it “too much too soon” when he put up 29 points and 28 points to place the defending champion Mavericks in an 0-2 hole from which they wouldn’t escape? Was it “too much too soon” when the Lakers had absolutely no way to defend him, especially when he went off for 37 points in a ferocious Game 4? Was it “too much too soon” when he kept his wits about him against the Spurs, fighting out of an 0-2 deficit to score 23 points, dish 12 assists, grab four rebounds and snare four steals in a decisive Game 5 victory? Was it “too much too soon” when he valiantly put it all on the line against the Heat in the Finals, putting up 43 points, seven rebounds and five assists in a Game 4 loss that sealed his team’s fate?”

"Is this too high for Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook?"
Yes Ben it is. By 10-20 spots.
@Crow You think hes like the 26th best player?
http://www.dailythunder.com/2012/09/what-are-these-challenges-the-thunder-face/
@ou_sas damn i was just about to post that
Doesn't have to read all of it but this is why i think perry was bored and inconsistent in college: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/sam_amick/06/02/draft.notebook.santa.barbara/index.html
A qoute from david stern last christmas: "The idea that the luxury tax hurt small market teams is ludicrous "
@okcprophetic sorry David but you are wrong. it can if you want a title and if the super-rich are willing to spend.
@okcprophetic The Luxury Tax hurts teams that aren't willing to pay it. Period. The only difference is a Large market has additional revenue streams to subsidize where as small markets don't. As most sports franchises are billionaires play things, its up to the owner to decide how much or how little profit he wants the team to make.
personally owning a sports franchise is a billionaires civic duty and they should take one for the common good of the city in which they play.
@ThunderBelize i know it i know it i know it...from the Caribbean? belize and Jamaican people are some smart ass
I'll take @okcprophetic 's question a step further and ask:
Over the last 10 years which player has contributed to the most ridiculous contracts to under performing team mates? and feel free to name those players who got the contracts as well.
I'll start: NASH -> Amare, Joe Johnson, Shawn Marion (and any other PHX teammate who signed a contract during or because of their time playing with NASH)
@ThunderBelize gilbert arenas
@ThunderBelize @okcprophetic yeah, you win
@ThunderBelize @okcprophetic you could maybe say KG with the contracts he helped Perk and Big Baby get by yelling at them. But Nash is the obvious one.
@ThunderBelize @okcprophetic Bellinelli? i don't think he got a huge deal. and i think Tyson chandler went to Charlotte after NO and before Dallas
@OBoymuzik @okcprophetic what about Chris Paul? He helped Chandler land in Dallas, and David West in Indy and didn't Stojakovic or another European shooter get a fat deal after playing with CP3?
Um, guys, i know am knew on here and this probably been discuss already. but who is your favorite -non thunder player- in the nba? For me...kevin Garnett, i think he's the best "all round" power forward in the nba for a long time. he can rebound, one on defense, team defense and he can even go out on the perimeter to defend at times...on offense we all know he can score in every way possible for a "power forward" and he makes his free throws.
@okcprophetic Luis Scola. I would kill to have hair like that.
@okcprophetic Rubio
@okcprophetic steve nash, but that stops now
@OBoymuzik and o... stoudemire cuz i think he's the best power forward "OFFENSIVELY "
@okcprophetic Kyle Korver.
@cleandoe you can do better than that
@cleandoe korver is the man
@okcprophetic Korver is the man. Trust.
@okcprophetic Ray Allen, but that stops now
Does anyone else check back here on the regular in hopes that a "Harden Signs Extension with Thunder" post will be waiting?
I do...
@ThunderBelize No update on my RSS feed :(
@ThunderBelize So, so often...
In addition to that Russ glasses article, there's a pretty dang funny video about Rondo "interning" at GQ on their website.
Oh, great, now Serge is having a yacht party in Miami for his birthday. Predictions on Harden attending?
@OBoyzOld Man I just hope KD, Serge, Russ and Perk get Harden drunk and say "James this yacht could be yours NOW if you sign an extension, you won't have to wait til the summer" and then James drunk dials Presti at 3 am.
@OBoyzOld Man cause you know the first thing he's doing once he gets paid is reenacting this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glEiPXAYE-U
@OBoyzOld Man The only question that really matters..."Is TC going?"
@Tronchaser @OBoyzOld Man
I just wanna know if he's going to wear the fox-ear thing with the mitts . . .
@Tronchaser @OBoyzOld Man You mean "What force on earth could stop TC from going?"
Melo should be higher than 21st on that player ranking list. I know he hasn't been on the most successful teams, but the dude can play
@ThunderUp35 can play...
by himself without regard to team.
Quick question: What percentage would a player have to shoot to be having a "cold" shooting night? 25%? 20%? This will affect some math I'm running.
@ou_sas Depends on how many categories you plan on using, like @f5alcon , but the best way to find for that particular player would be to find his ppp and divide from there. Or use league average or team average from there as a comparison.
@ou_sas @f5alcon Or if you just want to do FG%, use eFG% to account for three pointers and divide measure out based on player/league/team average.
@ou_sas 0.400 eFG% would be bottom 20% of league over a season, so I would go with something like that.
@senseandsenescence @ou_sas This sounds right.
@ou_sas How many categories? probably 30%
@f5alcon I perhaps should have clarified. I'm trying to get a rough idea so I can do a binomial distribution of shots to find the chance of a given players "cold" night. Once I've got that, it should be cake to come up with numbers like "the chance of KD, Russ, and James all going hot or cold on a given night.
Which brings up another question. Would >60% fg% be considered a "hot" night?
@ou_sas @f5alcon I'd say anything over 55% raw FG% is hot because it does not happen that much across the league. Durant does it almost 40% of the time but that is probably one of the highest the league. Westbrook, a bit over 20%. Harden about 35%.
@cleandoe @ThunderChick2010 @f5alcon Ugh, no, it's me being tired and trying to be all witty and not taking a moment to proofread. Good catch.
@ThunderChick2010 @ou_sas @f5alcon TC, as a fellow Briton I can confirm it is not. Try to wiggle your way out of this one, Mr Lawyer Man.
@ou_sas @f5alcon
And don't you go blaming this on baby_sas.
@ou_sas @f5alcon
Is this a test? Did you really misspell something? Or is that a valid alternate/British spelling for statistician? :)
@ThunderChick2010 @f5alcon Hate the stats, not the statestician. :-P
@ou_sas @f5alcon
Truthfully, hotness/coldness depends on whether a shot is made/missed at a key moment of the game. We tend to forget everything else. (Put that in your binomial distribution and smoke it.)
