Darnell Mayberry on the Northwest Division: “The Blazers are perhaps the only team that saw a drop off in talent. But what they lost in ability and experience they could make up for with youthful exuberance, which has proved to be enough to steal some regular season wins. Add to that the Blazers have a Rookie of the Year candidate in Damian Lillard, who is expected to finally settle Portland’s point guard problem. None of it should prevent the Thunder from capturing its third consecutive division title and securing a top four seed. But those 16 divisional games loom as a challenge that warrants the Thunder’s undivided attention.”
John Rohde wonders if peer pressure will influence Harden: “Peer pressure can be a powerful tool, intentional or not. Perkins believes Harden’s decision might be swayed when he re-enters the Thunder practice facility this week and exchanges playful banter with the group that finished one step shy of becoming NBA champs last season, when he rekindles those morning shooting competitions against fellow guards Russell Westbrook, Eric Maynor and Daequan Cook, when he feels the comfort of being surrounded by young, talented teammates with a limitless future. All this must happen naturally. There will be no intervention. Teammates will not confront Harden and guilt him into staying. It doesn’t work that way among pro athletes, who are extremely respectful of each other when it comes to contract talks.”
KD says his best friend in the NBA is Royal Ivey.
Russell Westbrook being a Cowboys fan.
Scott Brooks on his favorite part of the lockout: “The only good thing about the lockout season is that I love Halloween and I was able to trick-or-treat with my kids. This year, we’re going to San Antonio so we will miss that.”
“Thunderstruck” available on DVD Dec. 4.
Lee Jenkins of SI.com on someone challenging Miami: “The Thunder, with their depth advantage, could also take them in a rematch. Just because the Thunder lost one series to the Heat doesn’t mean they will lose another. Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, James Harden and Serge Ibaka are all inching into their primes, plus backup point guard Eric Maynor will be healthy, and the Thunder will benefit from their Finals experience. Every year this team advances one round farther.”
John Leach, the guy in charge of in-game entertainment, interviewed.
A reader email to David Aldridge of NBA.com: “Just a thought on James Harden’s possible forced exit from Oklahoma. Now I don’t claim to know all of the minor details about basketball, and there may be a very logical reason against what I’m about to say, but if a team drafts a player, or a few players for that matter, and they become as talented as the organization hopes they can be, should a special rule not be put in place that allows that team to hold onto that player for as long as they want? Say like a different set of rules and contracts for these players existed. Messy, I know, but the Thunder took a gamble on [Kevin] Durant, [Russell] Westbrook, [James] Harden and [Serge] Ibaka, and it paid off. Why should they be forced to see one walk? Or even have a rule in place where for say the first seven or eight years of a player’s career, they have to stay with the team that drafted them? Again, in terms of contracts, it gets difficult. But would it not make the league more competitive, too? As an example, Dwight Howard would still be an Orlando player, players like Kevin Love and DeMarcus Cousins, of small-market teams, would be guaranteed to be with their respective teams for some time, allowing an organization to build around the player they drafted and not risk seeing them walk after their rookie contract expires. Even if there was a max on the number of times you could do this (let’s say three), that, again, would make Harden the odd man out as OKC would probably pick Durant, Westbrook and Ibaka.”

@cleandoe Fantasy Draft?

Updates every 30 minutes. Just #18 right now.
This has probably already been discussed, but I miss a lot of comments and I just saw the news. Celtics sign Milicic for 1 year at vet minimum, a littleover $800,000. How does this compare with our signing of Habeet. Should we have gone after Milicic instead?
@Patrick OKC According to every version of RAPM, we should have gone after Fesenko instead.
@Patrick OKC but it looks like the Bulls will have that option.
@Crow @Patrick OKC Fesenko would have been nice.

@Crow @Patrick OKC I've been on the Fesenko train for a while. Huge, defensive monster, that does not require the ball on offense and is basically useless on that end of the floor. He's basically a younger Perkins.
@Patrick OKC actually Harrelson looked even better. but after struggling to find a spot, he takes a non-guaranteed offer from Miami.
@Patrick OKC thabeet makes about 80k more
@OBoymuzikWell then it's a wash, its not like tickets would be cheaper if that $80K wasn't being paid or the Thunder would be afford to sign Harden for more. $80K to me is a big deal, but for this discussion it is negligible. I would rather have had Milicic than Thabeet.
@OBoymuzikThat's the thing though, Darko is 27 and can play, he isn't great, but he is playable. We got Thabeet who is 25 and should never ever see the court outside of the D-league. Plus it's not like f we signed Darko this year and he is a waste that we wouldn't just be able to sign Thabeet next year to waste some money. I highly doubt we will see a big run on Thabeet next year. It's not like we ended up with considerably greater upside.
@Patrick OKC i wouldn't if he's not going to play. The Celtics have their bad center that may be good someday in Fab Melo, they got Darko to be a backup.

@ou_sasI can't watch that at work, but I assume it is highly relevant and poinant.
@Tronchaser @Patrick OKC It's an awesome movie. I'm a sucker for Napoleon-era Naval movies though.
@ou_sas @Patrick OKC The Navy in me LOVES THIS MOVIE.
@Patrick OKC It's a clip from "Master and Commander" The pun I'm making is: "In the British Navy, one must always choose the lesser of two Weevils.
Lat played his last game for Metros de Santiago on Friday. They were up 3-1 in the semi-finals of the Dominican league and then lost 3 straight to Caneros. Lat averaged 16/11 in the regular season.
Might start to see news trickle out soon what his plans are. Playing in the Dominican Republic was a short commitment where he could make some money instead of sitting around, so we'll see if he gets invited to training camp or heads back over to Europe.
@Jooseppi I'd prefer him in Europe. Better competition than the D-League, unfortunately. Maybe keep an NBA opt-out.
@ou_sas I'd rather have him on the Thunder roster. It would be nice to have a big that can probably rebound.
@Jooseppi Well yeah, but if we're not going to sign him, then that's the option I want.

Today is Perry's birthday. :)
@novelisticbee0 My Birthday too!! He's taller, better looking and a lot younger than me, but wow - the similarities. Oh yea, and I'm white...
@ocsooner @novelisticbee0
Happy Birthday PERRY!!!!
Enjoy your birthday ocsooner :D
TC has noted it already. Got any plans?
@cleandoe @ocsooner @novelisticbee0 Happy Bday ocsooner... have a good one!
@senseandsenescence
Cheers for the help. Just make them anyway, if you don't mind.
Stats are better than no stats - and these seem like pretty good stats.
Regardless of what you think, it would be interesting to actually to see the results nevertheless . . .
@cleandoe could you repost the link?
@senseandsenescence I could.

And now I remember why I quit eating at Taco Bell. Ugh, why?
http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/8419506/2012-nba-player-rankings-16-20
Is Steve nash still a top 20 player? I wouldn't have thought so, but I'm not sure I've got my top 20 fleshed out enough to opine. Still not sure I'd take him top 20. I'm also worried about him away from Phoenix' training staff.
@ou_sas By non-prior informed RAPM Nash fell to about 50th on total impact from his usual top 5-10, but he was still almost a +2 per 100 possessions.
@ou_sas Game to game he might be, but let's see how he holds up.
@ou_sas I'm pretty sure being a Laker boosted it. I'm semi-convinced that he and Grant Hill are about to fall apart.
@dancassidy35/FreeFezzyFel from GSW!!! Agreed, that's kind of the feeling I get.
God, what if Kobe, Dwight and Nash all have a bad injury year. I don't know if I'd feel good or bad if that were to happen.
Everyone remembers The Call but what about The Call Out? Raymond Felton called out Russell Westbrook early in the season last year and then something magnificent happened....Westbrook went on to have his best season in the NBA helping lead the Thunder to the NBA Finals; meanwhile Raymond Felton from that point forward would go on to have his worst career season by a wide margin and his team faltered. The Blazers posted a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first time since the 07-08 season
@C-Wil
If I recall correctly, he basically said that RW tries too hard on defense and that somehow made him selfish.
@C-Wil Westbrook improved on some things, regressed on others. Not getting to the line as often really hurt him as a scorer, but he shot way better from the field which is promising. His playoffs were definitely better than a year ago. Regular season? Hard to say but I'd say probably.
@justin_mia @C-Wil Do you think some of his reputation for complaining after every non-call hurt his free throws attempts?
Now that we've seen Russ show that he's capable of playing pretty good denial defense, I'm going to raise the bar on what I expect from him defensively this season. He should be able to maintain his defensive focus much better this year.
@ou_sas @C-Wil I think that's the case at least somewhat but others don't (complaining).
@justin_mia I know his assists went down but as a whole Russ was big time last year. I can't wait to see what he brings to the table this time around.
@C-Wil I think he as about as good. He still has weird things going on. His playoffs for example would have been very mediocre by his standards if he didn't take care of the ball like he did. Was that an aberration or something he deliberately changed? His TOV% dropped almost 5% in the playoffs.
All of this Harden talk and something seems to be missed in the discussion - Will Harden be a starter this year or will he be 6th man again? And does/is that impacting his decision to sign and/or the offer that is being offered to him?
@ThunderBelize 6th still. Thabo cant be the spark off the bench. LOL
Love the angry Sonics fan. Hilarious!
@ThunderChick2010 Really? I just thought it was another douchey Sonics fan. /shrug
..and I don't EVER go to Starbucks. To me, paying that much for a coffee falls into the metally challenged zone.
@Tronchaser @ThunderChick2010 Burr grinder + french press = easy fresh coffee every morning. Will pay for itself over Starbucks in under a year.
@justin_mia @ThunderChick2010 @Tronchaser Mrs. TB had to have her fix every day when we were in OKC... NW Express way and independence location graciously took our entire breakfast budget - on 1 damn frappa - cappa - al -pachino grande 5 out of 7 mornings!
@ThunderChick2010 @Tronchaser There's a lot of those here too.
@justin_mia @Tronchaser
Betcha don't have a Dairy Queen though! :)
@ThunderChick2010 @Tronchaser There are six within a 4-5 mile drive of me.
@justin_mia @Tronchaser
Our little town doesn't even have a Starbucks--so really not a daily temptation.
@Tronchaser
Okay, disregard my previous comment. Thanks, Tron. Now I'm metally challenged. :)
@cleandoe @Tronchaser
I used to get paid to spot them. Now, it's just a sickness.
@ThunderChick2010 @Tronchaser You ALWAYS see typos . . .
@ThunderChick2010 Stay out of the "zone", TC! I like you too much for you to fall in there!
@ThunderChick2010 @Tronchaser
You always were.
He just opened your eyes. Thank the man.
@ThunderChick2010 "Leave the kid alone!" Except encourage his hatred for Schultz of course!
@ThunderBelize I'm supporting his attempt to take down Schultz. I don't go to Starbucks.
@TaoMaas @ThunderBelize
I'm right there with that guy . . . I go in spite of myself even though their coffee is far from the best.
@TaoMaas @ThunderBelize I support Starbucks, in a way is was that company that allowed the Thunder to be.
