George Karl on the Thunder and Lakers being the favorites: “What I basically say is — that’s summer talk. You have two teams that probably have the most talented players, especially in their top seven, but it’s summer talk. … I have a lot of respect for both of those teams. … But that doesn’t mean we never thought we could overtake them. Our goal this summer was: How do we get better? And how do we move closer to the top-echelon teams?”
Marc Stein of ESPN.com has OKC third in his preseason power rankings: “Am I, like so many out there, overlooking the fact that the Lakers still have lots of chemistry wrinkles to work out and health questions to answer? Guilty. Thing is, OKC convenes for camp amid plenty of its own uncertainty thanks to Harden’s contract situation, Perk’s health and that Finals flameout.”
Tom Ziller of SB Nation on media day lies: “‘I let my agent deal with [looming contract situation]. I don’t even worry about that.’ The player means to say that it’s all that he can think about, and that it will be a major distraction throughout the season.”
Darnell Mayberry: “Harden is believed to be seeking a max contract, and it’s common knowledge that he would be all but guaranteed to receive one from another team next summer. But it’s also been well-documented how the Thunder can’t venture into that territory, which means if this deadline comes and goes, Harden will soon be headed elsewhere unless he has a massive change of heart. A lot can happen in 30 days. Will Harden take less money? Sounds simple, right? But when you look at the Thunder’s track record, you’ll find that it’s not just talk. Oklahoma City has an almost unique history of re-signing its players. The Thunder thus far has kept its core intact by committing to paying its players at market value, or somewhere close to it. But many of the players have helped the franchise as well with their own level of commitment.”
Could these shorts be a sneak peak of OKC’s new alternate unis?
Nick Collison tweet: “Mo Cheeks just told me he’ll pay 2 get in the movie theatre just for the popcorn &will leave w/out seeing a movie cause its the best popcorn.”
LeBron: “We have the potential to be better,” said James. “We have the potential to be a lot better. And that’s scary.”
David Aldridge of NBA.com: ‘By the end of these nine months, we’ll know if the Heat are a true dynasty or a one-off, an historical quirk. We’ll know if Dwight Howard and Kobe Bryant can meld their skills and personalities into something dynamic and dominant, or if they’ll combust. We’ll know if the Thunder are poised to break through like the Bulls did in ’91, or if they’re heading toward the same kind of limbo that the Buffalo Bills and Phoenix Suns found themselves in — great teams that couldn’t ever break through.”

btw. do we have a channel this will be on by chance? the 1 p.m media thingy?
@Legendary_Dork http://www.nba.com/thunder/team/mediaday_1213
@diddoff thanks but i meant tv channel :P
Marc J. Spears @SpearsNBAYahoo
Thunder signs guard Walker Russell.
@DSMok1 @SpearsNBAYahoo I figured they would add another PG. Last in, first to get cut. Here to pass for a few weeks. One of the most prolific assist men in D-league history. Can't shoot well. Neither could his former NBA player father. But he stuck around awhile then got hired for organizational roles. Currently a scout for the Knicks. This could be considered partly an inside the industry favor.
@DSMok1 @SpearsNBAYahoo Walker Russell Westbrooks, Scott.

@DSMok1 That doesnt have his d league stats.
@f5alcon http://www.basketball-reference.com/nbdl/players/r/russewa01d.html There's d-league.
Eddy Curry is at Spurs camp. Getting humiliated by Darko was bad, but seeing Curry killing us would be too much to handle.
@diddoff Somehow Curry will manage to average a double-double.

Um, and comments on the Nuggets' new alternate jerseys?
@novelisticbee0 for some reason i think...mcdonalds? like..idk why
@novelisticbee0 Love 'em.
@duhsweetness @novelisticbee0 Javale McGee is derping away.
@novelisticbee0 Goin' with the old school look!
@novelisticbee0 Yeah, that's what the leaks suggested they would look like. I like them. Something different.
@novelisticbee0 does this mean we get to see ours today?
@StretchNeuron I think/hope so.
@Jooseppi @StretchNeuron I like it too, just hope it's a home alternate. I don't think I'd like that contrasting navy/white look with black shoes and socks, and they shouldn't wear white shoes and socks on the road.
@Jooseppi that sounds good to me, those shorts were pretty fresh, and the navy hadnt crossed my mind as an alternate. they should look pretty clean.
@novelisticbee0 @StretchNeuron Probably. I'm 99 percent sure those shorts Royce linked in the bolts are the alt shorts.
The vertical navy and white logo for the Thunder came from the same catalog as the logo on the Nuggets jersey. Both were named "alternate jersey logo."
Lebron: "“We have the potential to be better,” said James. “We have the potential to be a lot better. And that’s scary."
pssst. keep dreaming. your at your peak already. and if you didnt notice OKC are still young, whatever gets you through the night lebron ;)
scarier thing is KD, russ, harden, *hopefully brooks* , and many others arent at their peak yet either. This team is just going to get better and better.
Looks like my prediction that Harden would be signed or traded before camp is not going to come true- UNLESS Presti has a bombshell to drop on this afternoon's media affair. Still see no benefit in putting this off. He will either accept their offer, or needs to get traded ASAP so his replacement can get the benefit of a full training camp.
@Steve H or we go all out to win the title this year and keep him even at the risk of getting nothing in return.
@f5alcon @Steve H I think the only thing certain is that Presti won't let Harden walk and get nothing out of the deal.
@f5alcon You can't just give away a player. Well actually I'm not sure the CBA prevents it , but basic logic prevents it. No matter how bad a value, all players have a bit of value.
The trade exception is not some magical gift. It is just the first part of a non-simultaneous trade.

@f5alcon Not true. Check out the transactions section...

@senseandsenescence odom to dallas was a trade exception trade
@f5alcon @TaoMaas You can't get "just" a trade exception. At the very least you would get picks in return like Phoenix got for Nash.
@TaoMaas Yeah but it might just be a trade exception.
@f5alcon That sounds very "Un-Presti-ish" to me.
@Steve H yeah and if we win a title this year and then let harden walk it would be worth it.
@f5alcon We would be better in the long term getting a quality, if lesser player for Harden than we would just letting him walk for nothing at season's end.
@Steve H So does trading harden for somebody who doesnt make the team better.
@Steve H
Still 30 days till the deadline. I don't think anything needs to be done ASAP
The team just announced the signing of guard Walker Russell to the training camp roster. Any reactions?
@diddoff Warm body for practice.
@diddoff no.
@diddoff 9.9apg in d league last year, 8.3 career apg, so a pure point guard for sure, but unless we trade reggie or maynor no room on the roster.
Not gonna happen, but would you trade Thabo and Maynor for Luc Mbah a Moute?
@dancassidy35/FreeFezzyFel from GSW!!! No. More expensive than Thabo, and can't shoot the three. Maynor probably walks unless he signs a near minimum deal, so he's basically a throw in.
If the whole idea is to get a LeBron stopper, that's not a good way to build your team. The Heat might not even make the Finals. Only the Lakers have made three finals in a row (twice) since Jordan's Bulls did it (also twice).
Ultimately KD is probably the best we have at defending LeBron. If he gets into foul trouble throw Perry out there on him. At least he has the size to defend the post.
@dancassidy35/FreeFezzyFel from GSW!!! Probably.
@dancassidy35/FreeFezzyFel from GSW!!! I don't see why the Bucks would do that though.
@Jooseppi @dancassidy35/FreeFezzyFel from GSW!!! His $4 million salary is not too friendly for the Bucks with contract extensions for Jennings and Ellis waiting around the corner. And as we all know: small market teams can't go into the luxury tax!
@dancassidy35/FreeFezzyFel from GSW!!! I think I would. MaM could develop into a LeBron stopper.
@dancassidy35/FreeFezzyFel from GSW!!! Mbah a Moute is a beast on defense, but Rj is just not ready to be backup pg yet.
We got Lazar in a trade shortly before the season began. I wonder if Presti's got another trade brewing for a 12-15th man
