The Thunder finished off their preseason slate of games with an 88-76 win over the Mavericks to go 4-3 overall. Kevin Durant led the way with 18 points, James Harden had 16 and Serge Ibaka added 15, all in the first half.
That puts a lid on the preseason for Oklahoma City, which is excellent news because it means actual games that count are the next thing on the schedule. Woo.
Here are five quick takeaways from the preseason finale:
1. I would assume Scott Brooks used this last preseason game as a dress rehearsal for the regular season, and if so, here’s what the rotation is going to look like: The usual starting five with Harden and Nick Collison first off the bench, Eric Maynor as the backup point guard, Cole Aldrich as the backup center and Perry Jones III seeing time at power forward.
I would doubt that Brooks is cutting Daequan Cook completely out, but it wouldn’t shock me if he becomes more of a situational shooter, used in certain situations and matchups.
2. It’s only the preseason, but it appears that Serge Ibaka has improved, a lot. Another very strong performance for him, scoring 15 points in the first half while remaining very active on the glass. Someone asked me on Twitter how I’d describe Ibaka’s improvement and I think it’s simple: more confident.
He’s not hesitating at all on catches. He’s very decisive with his mid-range jumper and it seems like he’s taking a lot of ownership in OKC’s offense. He’s not forcing the issue, but he’s not afraid at all to feature prominently. If Ibaka really is going to become a consistent 20-point-a-game threat (meaning he could potentially go for that many any given night), the Thunder’s offense just hit a new, terrifying level.
3. I don’t think Brooks gave any obvious hints as who his 15th man might be. Andy Rautins was the first non-guarantee guy off the bench with Hollis Thompson being the only other to see time. The two favorites for the spot, DeAndre Liggins and Daniel Orton, didn’t play. It seems like all signs would point to Liggins seeing how much time he got in the preseason, but Orton is the sensible pick. Then again, he only played in one game during the preseason.
4. Two big developments: The Thunder wore dark shoes with their home whites and Fox Sports Oklahoma had some new commercials. Good signs.
5. Hopefully it’s just a preseason thing, but it really seems that Harden is forcing more shots than he ever has. What’s made him so great has been his uncanny efficiency and smart play. But coming off a game where he took 17 shots last night, Harden hoisted 15 in this one with a number of them being really tough contested jumpers. Maybe he’s making a conscious effort to be aggressive as a scorer, but he’s at his best when he lets the game flow naturally to him. He’s pressing for some reason and it’s not a good look for him.
6. Bonus: Brian Davis Line of the Night: “Brandon Wright on the floor and fed naked in the low post for the jam.”
Next up: The regular season.

TC--I have another question on the Western Conference contest. Did we select our 1-8 picks just for how the regular season ends? Or are we picking how it will look after the WCF champion is crowned?
@El Prez
And this weather . . .
@El Prez
I was just thinking about the end of the regular season . . .
Is that what you guys were thinking too?
@ThunderChick2010 @El Prez I figured I was predicting playoff seeding.
@ou_sas @El Prez
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it . . . for simplicity's sake too.
"Hopefully it’s just a preseason thing, but it really seems that Harden is forcing more shots than he ever has. What’s made him so great has been his uncanny efficiency and smart play." Idk about that--after all he is playing for a contract and it might even get a bit uglier as the season progresses.
The Mavs have announced that they've suspended Delonte West indefinitely for "conduct detrimental to the team." via a whole bunch of different twitter sources, most of them alts of Matt Moore.
Whelp, I guess he took that loss last night a bit hard...
via @nbaguru : It's only noon(ET) and Sammy Dalembert (5 blocks in 1st half) is already throwing a block party.
And now I'm just posting to post. Sorry guys.
@ou_sas @nbaguru yeah we need bolts

@ou_sas WARP?
@BallSoHarden @ou_sas Wins above replacement player, I believe. Ask Crow or one of the other Super Stats guys (yes, with yellow hair) for more info, as I'm not super, super up on the Basketball Prospectus stuff.
I am now taking suggestions for a fantasy draft drinking game. :D
@ou_sas
Take a drink for any player that's every appeared in a dancassidy35 screen name.
@ThunderChick2010 May have to get a DC35 list there, as I may have missed out on a few of them.
@ou_sas
All I know is that they all seem to share the same first name . . . Free.
@ou_sas oh fun, I will play that tonight. Take a drink for every player that has more than $100 spent on them.
@f5alcon Take a drink for any rookie drafted.
@f5alcon @D-MC Yeah... otherwise that's going to get brutal.
@ou_sas @D-MC hopefully I put away the vodka before thabeet lazar or aldrich are drafted
@ou_sas @D-MC do a shot of vodka if any nets players are drafted
@D-MC @f5alcon Drink everything in sight if Hasheem Thabeet, Cole Aldrich, or Lazar Haywood get drafted
@f5alcon @ou_sas Drink 12 beers if you draft Luke Walton
@ou_sas @D-MC Take 3 drinks if somebody drafts jason terry
@f5alcon @D-MC Take 2 drinks for anyone who drafts a currently injured player.
@f5alcon Hmm, I think my liver is already in peak condition from the beating it took during the Playoffs
@D-MC Think of it is as preseason game for your liver
@f5alcon @Jooseppi @ThunderChick2010 Take a drink for the first drafter to get a complete 13-man roster.
@Jooseppi @ou_sas @ThunderChick2010 Drink for any player who gets drafted and the bid winning bid is more than $5 than the net highest bid.
@Jooseppi @ou_sas @ThunderChick2010 @f5alcon Ah come on, I drank Tuesday night. I don't really need to do it again until the OU game...craaaaap.
@ou_sas @ThunderChick2010 @f5alcon Three drinks for whoever drafts Mullens?
@ThunderChick2010 @f5alcon Take a drink for any former Thunder player (Test your knowledge on this one!)
@ou_sas @f5alcon
Double for brookies . . .
@ou_sas

@SergeIblocka I can think of a few things. But not for Harden.
@SergeIblocka Scola?
@D-MC @SergeIblocka Why? He's not going to be an upgrade for us anywhere at this point.
The Thabo player capsule was awesome. I agree 100 percent with everything said. Thabo just makes our defense so much better. His ability to help without sacrificing coverage of his own man is fairly masterful.
Man, it was so great to hear Grant and Brian saying cute things about basketball again.
@D@nny It's nice to have a sideline reporter who doesnt wear a pound of makeup.
Thabo on Gothic Ginobili's capsule series: http://gothicginobili.com/?p=4724
Good read.
@ou_sas The Spurs focus on some of things is great.
I kind of agree about his shooting though. 43.7 percent from 3 last year was definitely fluky, I think, but if he can even shoot 35 or 36 percent, that's a big swing for the Thunder.
@Jooseppi Agree. If he's a viable option as a kick out (LOL, Russ), then we only have 1 offensive black hole in our starting 5. That's a significant improvment. Perk? Get offensive rebound putback dunks. We'll run a play for you for every 5 of those you get. .... Yes, fine, we'll count it between games.
@ou_sas @Jooseppi http://www.82games.com/1112/1112OKC2.HTM
from 82 games,our offense was better but defense was worse when harden replaced thabo,and everything became worse when cook played
@ou_sas Remember that one time people hated Thabo? He came back more awesome then ever.
I don't think the same will happen to Perk...
@FreeFezzyFel/JG22 Thabo was such a bad shooter, if he can stay decent that will help, if he regresses then the hate will be back
@FreeFezzyFel/JG22 Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world's first bionic man. Kendrick Perkins will be that man. Better than he was before. Better, stronger, faster.
@Jooseppi @ou_sas @FreeFezzyFel/JG22 Lil Perk eating all the pie
@Jooseppi @FreeFezzyFel/JG22 It's that 1% man. It's doing him in. Upgrade to the 2%! You can do it, it's ok-- okay, Perk, you can stop scowling at me. No, seriously, I take it back!
@ou_sas @FreeFezzyFel/JG22 He's going to need a lot of TSN injections after the insane atrophy this summer. It's as if Lil Perk won't let him near the fridge.
@ou_sas @FreeFezzyFel/JG22
Was that from that old series, The Eight Million Dollar Man?
