Pistons vs. Thunder: Pregame Primer

vs.

Detroit Pistons (0-5, 0-4 road) vs. OKC Thunder (3-2, 2-1 home)

TV: FS OK (Cox 37, HD 722, Tulsa Cox 27, DirectTV 679, UVerse 754)
Stream: Click here
Radio: WWLS The Sports Animal (98.1 FM, 640 AM, 97.1 FM Tulsa)
Time: 7:00 CT

Offensive Rating: Thunder – 103.6 (12th), Pistons– 101.1 (23rd)
Defensive Rating: Thunder – 97.5 (5th), Pistons – 113.1 (28th)
Pace: Thunder – 94.3 (9th), Pistons – 91.8 (24th)

View from the enemy: Piston Powered

Most exciting thing about this game: Alternate uniforms! Because holy crap, the Pistons are terrible and not fun.

The win over the Bulls is especially nice because the Thunder have a chance to put a few good wins under their belt ahead. Pistons, Cavs, Pistons again, Memphis at home, Hornets and the Warriors before the Clippers come to town. That’s a realistic chance to win eight in a row and go to 10-2. Or at least seven of eight.

Here’s something I’d like to see tonight, other than simply a win: Some fun basketball. The Thunder have been a bit bland early on, playing a rugged style without much fast breaking or Durant or Westbrook taking over. If they blow the doors off the Pistons, so be it, but it would be nice to see KD get 30.

Detroit coming in: They’ve lost five straight, most recently losing to the Kings.

Three Big Things

1. Don’t play terrible. Avoid doing that and this should be a pretty crisp win.

2. Firm up the rotation. Scott Brooks went with just nine last night as he continues to search. This could be a reasonable opportunity to get a little better grasp on it. Maybe Brooks isn’t going to have a set rotation though. Maybe it’s going to be a play-it-by-ear thing.

3. Run, score and be more fun. Get out on the break, throw some lobs, knock down shots and play a good, entertaining game of basketball. If things go according to plan, Durant and Westbrook might not play much in the fourth, but even if they don’t, it would be nice to see them put up some points. Most of all though, just win the game.

Tip at 7:00 CT. Go Funder.

I want a center with the Raos pick.  This guy seems intriguing, as does Gobert and Willie Cauley (My last name!!).  Adams tape doesnt appeal to me, but Ill monitor his development at Pitt

@SergeIblocka Lil Wayne thought he was going to be able to just call the game before and not only get free front row seats, but wanted his own entrance, security, etc. In a lot of arenas you can do that, but not OKC. However, he could have just jumped on Stubhub and grabbed those seats he wanted, granted they were going for about $12,000

Hypothetically, what coach could get through to Russ better? Somehow I think Monty Williams, Byron Scott, Brian Shaw, or Mark Jackson would be great coaches not just for him but this team if they were available.

I don't get why our coach, who himself is a former PG, and then a hall of fame pg assistant, can't get through to him about shot selection, turnovers, passing, etc.

Bry Bry

 @Perkins gon' Perk

I'm sorry, but you just don't replace a high character, winning coach unless he's demonstrated that he can't get the job done. He took this team to the brink, and might very well have what it takes to get them over the hump.

But let's just throw him out in favor of someone who MIGHT be the right coach. It's just stupid.

Short of Pop or Phil Jackson calling Presti and begging for the job, I just don't see why you would change horses mid stream like that.

PJthe3 bka ...

@Lamb Fries (AKA Bry Bry) @Perkins gon' Perk I'm with you... Pop. Phil Jax. Doc. The list is very short... & its too soon to assume he can't get it done or the team would tune him out

Sustainable Parameters

@Lamb Fries (AKA Bry Bry)  @Perkins gon' Perk Sometimes a coach gets players to a point and can't get them passed it and you have to bring someone else in to take that final step. See Doug Collins and the Bulls, then needing Phil Jackson to finally get the title

Sustainable Parameters
Sustainable Parameters 5pts

@justin_mia  @Perkins gon' Perk LoL, Russ and Larry Brown would come to blows. Most overrated coach ever.

Coach K I guess too has a favorable relationship with him

But why is everyone, sans for Thabo apparently, scared to ever say anything to Russ?

Sustainable Parameters
Sustainable Parameters 5pts

@justin_mia  @Perkins gon' Perk Probably the later. LB's teams tune him out pretty quickly, and his always negative, coaching here but taking calls and interviewing for other jobs act grows old. And then there's the rookies/vets thing, we think Brooks plays the vets too much, LB would sign all types of 40 yr old dudes and play them major minutes.

[censored]
[censored] 5pts

@Perkins gon' Perk  @Perkins gon' Perk Never know what happens behind closed doors, and Russ has been guided down this path of development by this coaching staff.

I think Larry Brown would either get Russ playing the best basketball he's ever played or Russ would go insane.
