Darnell Mayberry with a great piece on OKC’s rotation: “The Thunder has had only minimal minutes to offer first- and second-year players since becoming a league heavyweight. But Brooks’ reluctance to award even those minutes to his younger players through the years, dating to D.J. White four seasons ago, continues to raise two popular questions: what does the Thunder have buried on its bench and why exactly aren’t those players playing outside of garbage time? To many, they have become a perplexing pair of questions for a fan base that’s been bombarded with analysts annually acclaiming the team’s young bloods. For the first time since taking over as head coach, Brooks on Thursday spoke candidly about his philosophy regarding his rotations, providing details and insight into the decisions he’s made since 2008.”
Berry Tramel on changing names: “The whole concept of name changes is relevant to the NBA, especially with the Hornets in town Wednesday. The name that forever will be remembered in Oklahoma City is about to go bye-bye. Or at least East. The Hornets plan to change their name to the New Orleans Pelicans. It’s sound theory. If you can’t change your backcourt, change your name and get everyone’s mind off the backcourt. If Chris Paul and David West still were sending New Orleans into the second round of the NBA playoffs, like they did in 2008, then nobody would even think to change the name. But CP3 and West are long gone, and so soon will be the Hornet name birthed by George Shinn back in Charlotte.”
John Hollinger to the Grizzlies. I’ve had the pleasure to get to know John a bit over the last few years and he’s just a super guy. Incredibly excited for him.
Ben Golliver of SI.com has Westbrook as a loser in the first ballot All-Star returns: “Durant’s teammate, Westbrook, gets it bad here. There’s just no way Westbrook can be considered fifth among the West guard choices in terms of quality. Some would argue he should be above Paul for second and, if not, there’s no disputing he should be either third or forth, depending whose style you prefer, his or Parker’s. Westbrook logged just 143,437 votes, less than half of Lin’s total. That’s ridiculous for a player with a 24.45 PER averaging 21.1 points, a career-high 8.5 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game for the best team in the West. Almost everything that was just said about Westbrook can be said for Parker and it’s even worse because Parker earned just 69,983 votes, less than one-quarter of Lin’s total. Parker ranks No. 4 among point guards in PER, his Spurs have the second-best record in the West and he finished fifth in MVP voting last season. He’s currently averaging 19 points, 7.6 assists and 3.4 rebounds while shooting 50.9 percent, and it’s unfair to either Parker or Lin to put the two players in the same sentence.”
Orton and Lamb have been assigned to the 66ers again.
Serge Ibaka somehow didn’t get on this list of bigs.
Ian Thompson of SI.com: “The NBA has turned into a league of mysterious injuries. So far this season, Eric Gordon, Danny Granger, John Wall and Andrew Bynum haven’t played a minute because of knee ailments that were aggravated or failed to be rehabbed over the summer. Could more have been done to improve the players’ health before training camp? One team executive believes the NBA should consider rules that would enable franchises to have more oversight on players’ training methods during the offseason.”

royce is tired of sam presti's sctions and has put the d-league news in the bolts
http://www.dailythunder.com/2012/12/kings-vs-thunder-pregame-primer-7/
guess I have to do the dirty work lol
Just read Darnell's nugget on Brooks' quote about them not being vanilla
'Tell me another 5 that guards the point guard in the league.'
Lol you've got a point Brooks
Dan from DLHQ agrees with Thunder fans. Glad to hear he's the only one on ESPN who brought up that KD deserves to win MVP more than Melo.
@novelisticbee0
Durant is going to have to be a lot more aggressive if he is going to beat out Melo for the MVP. He needs to be the Durant from his 3rd season the one who got to the line 10 times a game, shot 20 FGA a game, and averaged 30 points a game.
@novelisticbee0 get on the new thread. My comment on this was better ;)
@cemitten Booooo.
@novelisticbee0 he's the only one :/
Still surprsing to me that NY is #1 in the East. Westbrook at #5 in the guards is crazy talk.
Hollinger is leaving ESPN to work in the memphis front office???
@bmuelle21 yep, vice president of basketball operations.
@OBoy Jones III @bmuelle21 terrible move
@cemitten @Lost Ones he'll have a say in player acquisitions as well as doing his advanced stat stuff
@Lost Ones please tell me because I'm honestly curious.
@Lost Ones @cemitten If nothing else, I'm sure it was a pay increase. That alone makes it worthwhile.
@cemitten
Yes im well informed what the VP of basketball operations does.
@cemitten @Lost Ones Whatever the President of basketball operations tells him to. :P
@Lost Ones Do you know what a vp of basketball operations does??
@OBoy Jones III @bmuelle21 stat nerd guy to VP of basketball operations... nice move IMO.
@OBoy Jones III nice hire i think
Wizards owner about the reported Harden trade
"I would like to debunk though a statement and notion that originated in The Washington Post that a potential trade would have put our team in the luxury tax and thus we “turned down” a deal because we were “unwilling to commit” financially," wrote Leonsis on his blog. "That is simply not true. First, we would not have gone into the luxury tax – that is simple math. Second, economics were not a factor."
@OBoy Jones III I bet its as simple as them wanting to save the 5 year max deal for Wall and not give it to Harden.
@anonymous12345 @OBoy Jones III #KevinLoveEffect
@ou_sas @OBoy Jones III Yup. We got lucky with KD getting his deal in the old CBA
I think there is a legitimate chance the Thunder have 4 picks in the top 33 in the 2013 draft. Dallas is 11-11 and the 8th seed in the west right now and Dirk will be back in a couple of weeks. You would have to think they'll keep getting better. I don't see any way we add 4 players to this roster next year so we'll get that down somehow. If we do grab a big guy with the Toronto pick what do we target in the lower round? A 3rd string PG to back up Jackson if Maynor bolts in free agency? Trey Burke from Michigan is projected to go #18 right now on the Bleacher Report mock. He's averaging 17 and 7 right now. Isaiah Canaan from Murray State is averaging 21 ppg and 4 assists on 49% shooting (44.4 3pt%). CBS has Marcus Smart at #18. BJ Young at #19
@okcjim
Could end up trading some of those picks at the deadline if the right deal comes up. The goal is to win a championship this year. We are NOT rebuilding.
Trey Burke would be a great add, but I think we'd have to trade up to get him.
@okcjim A center, a defensive minded 3/4 and a pass first PG would be my personal choices.
Jalen Rose on Demarcus Cousins "He gets emotionally intoxicated sometimes"
His twitter--------> https://twitter.com/Ryan__Lanza view with caution
@Lost Ones I find it kind of sick that, when I looked at his profile a few minutes ago, he only had like 200+ followers. Now he has over 1000. SMH
@Lost Ones It's crazy that people would follow someone that killed a bunch of people. Whether it was him or not.
@Lost Ones well he just tweeted
Ryan Lanza @Ryan__Lanza
so aperently im getting spammed bc someone with the same name as me killed some ppl... wtf?
@supreme35 @Lost Ones @Ryan__Lanza Had him confused with someone else with the same name who is sad and angry at the world.
@Lost Ones one of my friends found the guy on FB, he was born and raised in the town in Connecticut...
@Lost Ones that's deff not the guy...
@Lost Ones That's the guy?
such a tragic event RIP to all the innocent children and teachers.
@Lost Ones its so sad man. I don't even know how to wrap my mind around it.
I love when I read really intelligent discussions about basketball on this site.
More than anything though, I love that I CAN read intelligent discussions on this site.
@cemitten WHY DO DURANT AND WESTBROOK HATE EACH OTHER SO MUCH!!??? OPINIONS ARE NOT SUBJECTIVE, THEY'RE FACTS!!!!
@cemitten Perkins sucks. #hashtagmakesthisposthip
@justin_mia @cemitten I have noticed a new humor in your posts, justin. Is this on purpose?
