Saturday Morning Cartoons: Lambchopped

by Royce Young on December 1, 2012 at 10:32 am 184 Comments

Good weekend. Thank you for your support of Daily Thunder. December!

(Note: There’s no sound, I know. Blame it on the D-League.) Jeremy Lamb made his D-League debut last night and wasn’t shy. He finished with 33 points and 10 rebounds, but took 33 shots from the floor. He started the game slow, struggling to a 3-12 first half, but went went 10-21 in the second. Point is, good experience for the young guy and a little bit of proof that he can play.

Ultra talented, but I still see him as a better trade piece than player (for us). I just don't see where he fits long term here, even if we don't keep Martin. But I agree with many. Really would love to see a Lamb/ Jones D-League combo. Could be very very fun to watch

Really cool to see Lamb in action. You can see the talent is clearly there. I wish they'd send PJIII down with him so the two of them can get used to playing together. I know it's not really a fair comparison, but I like to think of the two of them as the new Kevin Durant and Jeff Green. They are both from the same draft class, both very talented and already very good friends and roommates. The faster the 2 of them build an on-court rapport, the faster we can maybe start to mesh them into our 2nd unit.

With as good as the Thunder have been playing lately i am not sure why everyone is still insisting that we play the rookies more.  We are playing some dang good ball.  What more do people want?

Fezzy
Fezzy 5pts

 @sexywatt Because they possess a shit ton of potential and our stars are playing too many minutes.

SexyWatt
SexyWatt 5pts like.author.displayName 1 Like

 @FreeFezzyFel/FreePerryandJeremy!!!

 Does that potential mean wins this year?  because if not we shouldn't play them

 @sexywatt  @FreeFezzyFel/FreePerryandJeremy!!! Based on what could PJ3 more easily cover Battier than Serge or Serge cover Bosh more easily than Perk cover Bosh?

Fezzy

 @sexywatt  @Old Man Game The same reason you decide how to draft players, previous gameplay.....

SexyWatt

 based on what?

Fezzy
Fezzy 5pts

 @sexywatt  @Old Man Game I'm desperately trying not to lose my patience here because I'm simply re-posting the same thing over and over. I believe that Perry and Jeremy have the potential to put us over the top.

Old Man Game
Old Man Game 5pts like.author.displayName 1 Like

 @sexywatt  @FreeFezzyFel/FreePerryandJeremy!!! Look at how the finals went down last year. That same thing could happen again against the Heat if we get there. Now if PJ3 were playing to potential on the other hand, he could be a difference maker. He has the footspeed and size to cover Miami's small lineup. But we can't just insert him with no experience going in. So you take your licks in the early to mid-season to get him some experience.

SexyWatt

 @FreeFezzyFel/FreePerryandJeremy!!!  @Old Man Game

 ok so what move is going to make us able to beat the heat?

Fezzy

 @sexywatt  @Old Man Game I think we can win the west, but I don't see us beating the Heat.

supreme35

 @FreeFezzyFel/FreePerryandJeremy!!! Honestly if Dwade really is declining I think our top 4 > their top 4. The problem is the supporting players around them which the Heat have much more of. This is where our 9 player rotation could be the biggest problem. Either go the Spurs route and get production from the young players or make a move in order to expand the player rotation.

SexyWatt
SexyWatt 5pts

 I just don't see why everyone is insisting we can't win in the playoffs with this lineup.

 @FreeFezzyFel/FreePerryandJeremy!!!  @sexywatt I'm saying don't get so hung up on home court advantage. Winning games in February and March is great but if you do so by wedding yourself to a lineup that isn't going to win in the playoffs that's a pyrrhic victory.

Fezzy
Fezzy 5pts

 @sexywatt  @Old Man Game I would agree. But it's not like we've been beating all star teams. I want the Perry and Jeremy to play because I don't like the amount of minutes KD and Russ are playing and they can only help. If after 20 games, they're not playing well, send them down the highway, no real harm done.

SexyWatt

 Are you saying you wouldn't rather us have a game 7 at home vs on the road?

Old Man Game
Old Man Game 5pts like.author.displayName like.author.displayName 2 Like

 @sexywatt  @FreeFezzyFel/FreePerryandJeremy!!! Home court advantage isn't terribly important. 2011 2nd round against Memphs. OKC loses game 1 at home and home court advantage, goes on to win series. 2012 wcf v.Spurs, no home court advantage OKC wins series. 2012 finals OKC has home court and loses series.

Its not as big a deal as fans often make it out to be.

Fezzy
Fezzy 5pts

 @sexywatt Because it gives them playtime and experience. Them playing isn't just for the short term. It helps them in the future as well. They have the potential to be a very strong spark off the bench. If not, giving them time to play won't cause the other team to go on a 20-0 run.

SexyWatt
SexyWatt 5pts

 @FreeFezzyFel/FreePerryandJeremy!!!

 so then why is it that everyone is insisting that they play?  if it wont make a difference

Fezzy
Fezzy 5pts

 @sexywatt I'd be very surprised if the insertion of the Brookies into the rotation would make that big of a difference.

SexyWatt
SexyWatt 5pts

 @FreeFezzyFel/FreePerryandJeremy!!!

 while at the same time surrendering home court advantage?

Fezzy
Fezzy 5pts

Maybe not regular season, but I believe in playoffs. I don't think the current rotation can beat the Heat. Throw the Brookies into the rotation (and Jackson for Maynor) for 20 games or so. Give them consistent minutes. If it doesn't work out, send them to Tulsa for the remainder of the season.

Old Man Game
Old Man Game 5pts like.author.displayName 1 Like

 @sexywatt I just want Reggie to play. But that's mostly because Maynor is bad and not because I think Reggie will be especially good.

supreme35
supreme35 5pts like.author.displayName 1 Like

 @sexywatt I think the issue is the bench and KD and Russ not being able to get some actual rest after getting a comfortable lead.

SexyWatt
SexyWatt 5pts like.author.displayName like.author.displayName like.author.displayName 3 Like

 @supreme35

 Wasn't this our busiest month of the season?  if they could handle it this month then why not the others?  Whose spot are the rookies going to take?  if you want to say jackson instead of maynor ok lets talk.  But don't tell me we need to play lamb and jones and make martin thabo or serge sit to do it.  That just doesn't sound smart.

Old Man Game
Old Man Game 5pts like.author.displayName 1 Like

 @supreme35  @sexywatt Yeah we started the 4th off with like a 16 point lead last night and then Maynor, Thabeet and co. squandered it.

supreme35
supreme35 5pts like.author.displayName 1 Like

 @sexywatt Even if you don't think rest matters.. the fact that KD and Russ have been having to come back into games many times already this season to clean up what the bench did is not a good thing. The bench could still be finding itself I understand that but as of right now it's a problem which is why people are discussing how to improve it.

SexyWatt
SexyWatt 5pts

 @supreme35

 Well never having been a pro athlete i am not sure how much rest they need.  playing a few more minutes than Lebron a night doesn't sound like it would make a big difference to me, but like i said i don't know anything for sure.  They are only 24.

supreme35
supreme35 5pts

 @sexywatt Woah slow down. I'm not saying I agree about playing the rookies just saying that the bench issues is why it's been a lengthy discussion. Personally I think Presti needs to make another move to improve the bench. And KD and Russ' playing time matters come playoff time. A more rested KD and Russ gives the team a better chance especially if there are going to be going against a more rested Lebron no?

@sexywatt Kd and Russell can't continue to play 40 minutes a night the entire season our bench is garbage

twistdov

 @sexywatt Royce already pointed it out but it's a huge deal: with all the teeth-gnashing over the trade, the criticism (mostly deserved) of Westbrook early in the season, etc... we just ripped off the best November record in franchise history

SexyWatt
SexyWatt 5pts like.author.displayName like.author.displayName 2 Like

 @twistdov

 I don't really want to get rid of anyone.  Now there are times when i'm at the game and i might scream get perkins out of there, but that doesn't mean i don't support him.  He is a Thunder so of course i support him.

SexyWatt
SexyWatt 5pts like.author.displayName 1 Like

 @twistdov

 Now if we could get someone like Kevin Love straigth up for him well then of course i would be all for it.  But i dont want to sit here and insist that we need to do something with him.

twistdov

 @sexywatt Oh I know but the sentiment that Perkins needs to go is just... it used to be head-scratching funny, now it's just weird. He's a huge part of our success, so lets trade him for... marcin gortat? al jefferson?

All is right in the world, OKC rolling, OU to the BCS very likely after a title share, and the pokes wet the bed down the stretch of the season for a piss poor 7-5 record.
