Joe Kaiser of ESPN Insider on Kevin Martin: “In Martin’s case, his shooting appears to really be benefiting from having a point guard like Russell Westbrook who’s so good at penetrating the lane, drawing in defenders and kicking it out to the open guy. HoopData.com reveals that 91.2 percent of Martin’s 3s this season have been assisted, which is a bump up from the 80.8-to-86.4 range he’s averaged on a per-season basis over the previous six seasons with Sacramento and Houston.”
Jason Gallagher of Baller Ball on Oak City: “This one goes out to you, members of the broadcast media who insist on calling Oklahoma City — “Oak City.” I get it. I know it’s rough – 6 syllables is a lot – given that it’s your job to speak and all — but give it a rest. I lived right outside of Oklahoma City for a good 5 years and never once heard a native, visitor, or anyone in that prideful state, call it “Oak City.” In fact, it really annoys every single Oklahoman I know. Nobody calls Kansas City — “Kan City” so there is no point in trying to make “Oak City” happen because it won’t. Like an ex-girlfriend told me once “Stop it and leave it… or my cousin and his friends are going to jump you after school.” So minus the cousin thing… I think you are not only doing a disservice to the Oklahoma City community but to the fine people of the real Oak City — Oak City, Utah.”
Old friend Byron Mullens hyperizin’ and posterizin’.
Marc Stein of ESPN.com ranks OKC fourth: “They’ll never be known for their ball movement, but the Thunder have clearly been sharing the leather better than they did last season. They also enter the season’s second month as a top-five team in offensive and defensive efficiency, which explains why they’re rollin’ without Harden.”
J.A. Adande of ESPN.com writes the NBA should go to 78 games: “The downside is less gate receipts and a smaller revenue from the local television and radio deals for each team. But even that has a bonus: The only way to make it up is to make the playoffs. There’d be more incentive to go for that eighth playoff spot instead of tanking into the lottery. Slightly lower team revenue means slightly lower payouts for the players. The way the union could get its constituents to sign off would be to adopt the long-term view: less wear and tear on the body can help prolong a career. Forty games saved over 10 years amounts to half a season. Ask a 30-year-old NBA veteran what he’d give to have 40 games’ worth of pounding on the court restored to his knees.”
Lee Jenkins’ profile of LeBron as Sportsman of the Year is wonderful.
Quote from LeBron about KD in that profile: “I know there is someone, somewhere, trying to take my spot. And I know where he is too. He’s in Oklahoma. He’s my inspiration because I see the direction he’s headed, and it’s the same direction I’m headed. I know his mind-set, and he knows mine. It’s a collision course. We’re driving one another.”
Russell Westbrook will wear the new Air Jordan XX8′s tonight.
Amin Elhassan of ESPN.com says Serge Ibaka is the top NBA specialist: “The premier rim protector in the NBA, Ibaka’s presence on the court changes the entire tenor of opposing offenses. He’s leading the league in blocks per game (3.3) for the second year in a row, rejecting nearly 10 percent of opponent field goal attempts while he’s on the floor (almost unheard of). But perhaps the biggest impact he’s had is in the shaping of the Thunder roster: he’s the reason why Jeff Green (traded to free minutes for Ibaka at power forward) and James Harden (traded because Ibaka’s deal made it difficult to give Harden max) are no longer in Oklahoma City. Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook will carry the offense, but Ibaka is the linchpin to the Thunder’s defense, and without him the team’s chances at deep playoff success would be greatly reduced.”

:)
I call Oklahoma City "That place we stopped for gas on our road trip and got crappy tacos at some crappy tex-mex chain." Or, for brevity's sake, "Oklahoma City."
@duhsweetness Then you should just make like a...nvm
Adande must be bored writing an article that stupid.
Yo did anybody see Byron Mullens dunk on LaMarcus Aldridge last night?
@Nicky Scarfo Sullinger, 20's, etc., etc.
@Nicky Scarfo Yes. Royce posted a video of it here:
http://www.dailythunder.com/2012/12/tuesday-bolts-12-14-12/
@Nicky Scarfo No what happen?
Reading the Bolts in sunny 60 degree Central Park. Hard to beat.
Same thing with San Francisco. Only the media and outsiders ever refer to it as "San Fran." Saying "The City" or "SF" is okay but not "San Fran."
So I live in western Oklahoma. And we call it "The City" pretty sure everyone does who isn't fom there. Why not just drop the initials and go with that?
O-City is better that Oak City
@desatt O-City is better that Oak City
@desatt people from outside of almost every city refer to that city as "the city". as a dc native when someone from md or va asked where im from i would say "the city". people from upstate NY call NYC "the city"... its too common to be for just one particular place
@desatt Random fact: I met somebody from Minco (apparently that's a place) who referred to Stillwater as "the big city." Wasn't joking either.
And?
@ThunderChick2010 It was brutal. Keeping me on my toes.
@Jooseppi
Oh no, you didn't. See what happens when I ration the smileys? :)
@ThunderChick2010 I didn't mean to offend or anything.
@Jooseppi @ThunderChick2010
Well, I'm from Chickasha - about one-third the size of Stillwater. It's 'big city' to me.
@ThunderChick2010 Well, if Stillwater is "the big city," what is the related terminology for OKC? Megacity?
@Jooseppi You should have spread this out over two comments to double your likes.
@desatt
Or just TC for short would work. :)

Defense...Oh wow
@YoniFromIsrael Basketball is a really cool sport.
The Lakers: Where averaging 13 and 8 the first 2 months of the season just might get you traded
I no most of you fellow Thunder fans ain't from the hood, We call it (THE O) or O'CITY.
@walkerdog I posted O-City above too.
@walkerdog What about southside?
@walkerdog The place I used to live was more like the barrio than the hood.
@walkerdog I call it the Shire. So yes, I'm from the hood.
@Jooseppi The Shire? Please enlighten me.
@walkerdog im from the hood, just not your hood
@RRRWHATEVER A Hoods a Hood don't matter where its at

@OBoy Jones III O City or no city!!!
@OBoy Jones III FA SHOW

Since tonites game is NBA TV game, will it be black out locally (on NBA TV)?
@CDSpark It will be blacked out on NBATV in OKC but will be on FSOK like normal.
@OBoy Jones III @CDSpark Sweet. I just got cable this week (but not NBATV) solely to watch the Thunder games, and I was about to be mad.
@Mr_F You're good to go, bro. Fox carries all of them for the most part.
@OBoy Jones III Thanks, I was kinda hopin to get the home team announcers take on the game
@CDSpark My favorite part is how Grant always yells "DUNK IT!" at the same times that I yell "DUNK IT!"We're "DUNK IT!" soulmates.
@CDSpark I was wondering this too. No Brian Davis?
Great article by Sekou on Russ:
http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2012/12/04/westbrook-delivers-on-both-sides/
@novelisticbee0 http://bkref.com/tiny/Uo1zE
Out of the top 20 in this list Russ has the Highest points/g Rebounding% and Usage.
For what it's worth he has the 3rd highest WS/48, and 3rd best DRtg. (again, only when looking at the top 20)
@novelisticbee0 "No player in the league has been assisted by a single teammate more than Durant has been assisted by Westbrook (53). In fact, Westbrook holds the top two spots on the list, with 47 to Serge Ibaka."
@RRRWHATEVER @novelisticbee0 That's an excellent piece of information.
@RRRWHATEVER @novelisticbee0 I was just about to quote that. Interesting stat.
