The Thunder will be well represented Sunday night at All-Star Weekend, but other than that, it’ll be a pretty light trip for OKC’s superstars.
No one in the 3-point contest. No one in the dunk contest. No one even in the Skills Challenge or rookie game. Instead, the only extra thing a Thunder player is doing is the Shooting Stars Challenge, which of course is the lamest thing of the entire All-Star Weekend.
The format is a little different this time around as the teams are split into the East and West. Russell Westbrook will join James Harden, Maya Moore, Tina Thompson, Sam Cassell and Robert Horry on the West team. The East is Chris Bosh, Brook Lopez, Swin Cash, Tamika Catchings, Mugsy Bogues and Dominique Wilkins.
Westbrook is also slated to coach in the celebrity game, opposite of Harden.
There was some speculation Westbrook might dunk this year but he’s not. But chin up you guys, he’s gonna toss some halfcourters with Bob Horry and Tina Thompson!
The Shooting Stars thing is part of All-Star Saturday night, an all-inclusive skills showcase, which happens Feb. 16 at the Toyota Center in Houston and will be televised live by TNT at 7 p.m. CT.

Dunk contest will have 6 participants split up into 2 teams, 1 representing the East (Terrence Ross, Gerald Green, James White) and 1 representing the West (Kenneth Faried, Jeremy Evans, Eric Bledsoe). I like they expanded the field to 6, but this team thing is going to ruin it because the 2, maybe even 3, best dunkers are on the same team and won't get to square off against each other. Also DeAndre Jordan > Kenneth Faried.
Because James White is in it, I will be in the building, even if I have to drop a mortgage payment for just nosebleeds which appears to be the case right now

I have seen it many times before because he has been doing it since he was 16, but James can dunk from the furthest distance I have ever seen behind the ft line, and he can add the between the legs (yes, from BEHIND the ft stripe), windmill, double pump with 2 hands, or "LeBron" statue of liberty pose to it
As for Faried, I know he can do a between the legs, but I think DeAndre Jordan would be better.

@Cold-Blooded Last year Barkley would say on every show that we are a jumpshooting team and that doesn't win in the playoffs. We subtract Harden who was fantastic at getting to the rim and add KMart who is allergic to paint and now Barkley never calls us a jumpshooting team.

Old dudes just be caiught up in that old nostaligia mindset, not to mention he hates OKC and has admitted on many occassion they don't even watch games. @FF_pickups that's pretty meaningful to me. Wasn't last year's claim to fame "how many close games we can pull out"? That might be something to watch as after the break. It seems like if we dont win by a large margin or dominate in OT we struggle. Am i overreacting?
@PerkPunt @FF_pickups We hopefully do better with close games but avoiding them to begin with is what the best teams do. The progression of teams is something like lose big big margins, lose by small margins. win by small margins, win by large margins.
@PerkPunt With all due respect, I do think you are overreacting. +/- has a standard deviation of about 1/2 pt per minute. With that standard deviation, to get a 95% confidence level for a confidence interval of less than 3, you need 450+ minutes of basketball. So in these close games, we just don't get enough sample size during one season to have confidence in the 'clutch' stat at a reasonable confidence interval.

@FF_pickups I dont think you can calculate the Stdev with those samples. you're right about that. I do remember a random stat about percentages in games with a 5 pts margin or less.
