I really enjoy reading the DailyThunder.com blogs. The future certainly looks bright for our team. Keep up the good work. GO THUNDER!

I wrote a little blurb for my Fantasy site this morning and thought I would send it along. I am so amped about the potential that the Thunder have with their Big 3 of KD, Green and Russell. Here's my take... (if you do post somewhere please let me know) Primed for the Future In the NBA, a lot of stock is put in to teams' Big Three. Back in the Jordan days, the Big 3 was MJ, Pip and either Grant or Rodman. The Spurs had/have Timmy, Manu and Parker. Boston won it's title last year with their tre' of KG, Pierce and Ray Allen. Last night during Inside the NBA the question was posed about who had the best Big 3 currently: The C's, Orlando (Dwight, Jameer, Shard) or LA (Kobe, Pau, Bynum). It got me to thinking about a soon to be unstoppable Big 3 no one is talking about at the moment: The OKC Thunder's Durant, Green and Westbrook. Say what you will about the absolute decay of this franchise and controversial move to the City, but this young core of players is primed for a breakout in the near future. Kevin Durant, in his sophomore season, is #6 in the League in scoring and shooting 47% from the field and 43% from downtown. This is way up from the 43% and 29% from last year. He is easily a candidate for the All-Star team this year. Now while Durant raised his scoring average by 4ppg this year, Jeff Green has emerged as a solid #2 by increasing his ppg by almost 6 from 10.5 to 16.4. He is also tied for the team lead in boards with Durant while raising all of his percentages. And finally we have the emergence of rookie Russell Westbrook from UCLA who came out of nowhere to be drafted high, started out slow, but now has thrown his name in to the hat for ROY consideration. While he is only shooting 41% from the field, he still manages to put of 14.5 ppg and since supplanting Earl Watson in the starting lineup has seen his assists climb near 5. He is also top 20 in steals (#2 amongst rookies behind Mario Chalmers). Sure, there are growing pains here but in their last 10 games, the Thunder have won 5 which doubled their pathetic win total of 4. They beat a solid Jazz and Pistons teams at home and made the Bulls losers in Chicago. Currently the OKC Big Three are averaged a combined 55.1 ppg. Compare that with Atlanta's JJ, Bibby and Smith at 54.4; Boston's 3 at 53.3; Dallas' Dirk, Josh and Terry at 64; LA Story at 57.5. I could go on and on but the point here is that the Thunder are young and hungry and only getting better. Durant and Green are in their 2nd year and Westbrook a rookie. The future is looking bright in Oklahoma and things are only going to get better.
I'd really like to see you address this mounting "better without Durant?" issue that ESPN is beginning to push. Yes, the team has played better defense while he was out, but in a 6 game sample what does that truly say? It's becoming another slap to Durant and OKC that ESPN is giving legitimate thought to the idea that he hurts a team. Here's the real meat of it. Durant is not on the same level, defensively, as Thabo. However, no one seems to mention that 1) two wins came against the hapless Grizzlies and Wizards (Wizards with more injuries than OKC) 2) opposing SFs have been as good against the Thunder as ever (Brandan Wright was 8-10 from the field) and 3) have gotten more production out of their bench players than they have all year. I'm not saying the wins aren't good wins, but to suggest a team is better without its far and away best player is just some kind of stupid.
<a href="#comment-9782" rel="nofollow">@soundguy</a> Don't worry, we have lots coming on that subject. Just with all the draft rumors, it's hard to divert focus.
WTF? This has Kevin Durant as the 7th highest earning NBA player...There's no way this is correct...even w/ ads and stuff...He can't possibly make more then Wade, Anthony or Mcgrady (the ones listed below him) I hadn't heard about this site till u guys blogged about it...but anyways...wondering what you thought.. http://www.sporcle.com/games/highearnathletes.php
Nevermind...if SI says it...it must be true...I had no idea... http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/more/specials/fortunate50/2008/index.2.html
Can there be general forum for discussion? I'm watching the Bulls/Celtics series and just want to tell someone how badly I wish we had Salmons...
@ Royce I really enjoy your take on the Thunder and the NBA. Here is a topic I would like to learn more about. With all the focus on the draft, let's not forget that we are entering a possible K-Mart shoppers free agent market. Last year, the Clip-Joint picked up Marcus Camby from the Nuggies for expiring contracts and a couple of used jock straps...all in the name of "Cap Space" and the resulting luxury tax bill. Which teams will find themselves in a similar situation this year? The Hornets come to mind. Might a post-surgery Tyson Chandler be obtained for expiring contracts? If so, I volunteer Earl and Damien...okay, so we also throw in a couple of new jock straps. Attention NBA Shoppers (aka Sam Presti), bargain contracts on Aisle 3! With a lower cap number, is it possible that more restricted free agents will be in play this off-season than in past years? Inquiring minds want to know.
Hey Royce, Just wanted to say how much I LOVE Daily Thunder. As a college kid who saw his first Thunder game in person when Lebron came to OKC in December, I have really fallen in love with everything about this team. It is a little harder for me to follow them, because I am from Kansas City and go to school at KU. But I check Daily Thunder everyday as my #1 source for Thunder news and analysis. I love your commentary and insight on the team and I can't wait for this fall for the new season and your posts. I also wanted to point out that you post a lot more than some of the other TrueHoop blogs, which makes a huge difference when frequenting your favorite blogs everyday. Anyways, I appreciate your hard work and dedication, and just know that us up in KC do appreciate your website. Please keep up the posts and good work. All the Best, Todd Brown
I just came across this BLOG and wanted to comment that I like it alot. As a native Oklahoman, I have become struck with ALL things Thunder and this is a perfect forum to discuss ongoing Thunder topics. Thanks for providing the forum
Daily Thunder is a great source for everything Thunder.
Shouts out to Royce for his good words about my Portland Trailblazers ! I feel the same way about my Blazers. They are a terrific young team. And,that's why I Love your team ! I adore Kevin,we came thisclose to having him as a Blazer. I just know he will be a superstar for years to come. I will always be a fan of your team. You have players to be proud of on and off the court. I love your uniforms, they are sharp and sharp players wearing them. I love your logo also ! I can hardly wait for the season to start !
Hey guys - Great site. Love the layout and the commentary. Although I live in NY and follow the Knicks, the Thunder are like my second team. Quick question for you. I've got a blog called Above the Rim and I'm looking to improve the quality of the site. Who did your design? Can you recommend anyone?
Hey, I didn't get to catch the game last night. good thing, huh? However, Harden had a pretty good game. I was wondering if you might be willing to do a play by play break down of him like you did for the game against Detroit where he had 5 assists in the second quarter? Ryan
This may not be the right place, but can someone upload the video for when KD was shooting his free throws and the crowd was chanting "M-V-P!"? I really wanna see that. Thanks if anyone can!
Ya'll should push tree and leaf clothing to do some cool Thunder beanies. Specifically the Ski beanies that come over your ears, or at least some old school ones with puff balls on the top. Just a suggestion. Go Thunder
Another sign we have arrived as a quality team, on By the Horns (the Bulls TrueHoop blog) Matt McHale wrote yesterday, "The schedule won’t be in Chicago’s favor for long though. The Bulls now face a stretch where they play 10 of their next 12 games on the road, and they will face the Celtics, Suns, Rockets, Spurs, Thunder, and Hawks in that span. It’s going to be rough. Maybe even very rough." Who would have thought before the season that the Thunder would be used with that group when saying how tough an upcoming schedule would be?
Glad to see you are enjoying the team I grew up watching that was stolen from me along with some of the happiest memories of my childhood. Keep smiling... some day David Stern or some other evil moron like him will break your heart too.
Here is a great article about the Thunder's age vs. their chance to win ship http://www.nba.com/2010/news/features/shaun_powell/03/02/young.thunder/
Yes, it's shameless promotion, but I thought ya'll might in enjoy this piece on Westbrook, Durant, and their pursuit of the Lakers. It's fictional, but it's rooted in reality. http://thefastertimes.com/basketball/2010/04/20/rooftops-lakers-lead-thunder-1-0/
Did you see the yahoo sports article on Westbrook that ran yesterday? Worth the read.
Just wrote a piece on Kevin Durant for my blog. Check it out! http://leftyslook.com/2010/02/19/kevin-durant-hes-that-good/
Hi Royce Young or whoever does this thing, I have a request: How about something like a blog entry after each night regarding our opponents for a playoff seed?. Forget abot reaching the playoffs, thing BIG,think about playoff enemies and conference finals!
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=118129964886338&ref=ts Check that out!
Is it true that the DailyThunder will have a live stream feed of the game tonight. I am stuck at a wedding with no cable TV but we have a computer! HELP!!
Royce-- You said about 14 months ago that Thunder basketball couldn't compete with big 12 football for the hearts and minds of Oklahomans? After what you saw last night are you sticking to that?
what time will the thunder return for a return home party have a game 5 win
Does anyone know if they sell this shirt westbrook is wearing? http://dailythunder.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/Picture-23.png I have scoured the net and have been unsuccessful, I'm hoping ive just been looking in the wrong places.
Royce, Just saw the article about you in the Oklahoma Gazette. this is a great blog man. Real happy for you and glad to see you're doing so great. Good luck and see you around.

This was in Chad Ford's chat wrap today.... Ryan (OKC) Chances of Bosh in OKC? Chad Ford (1:20 PM) I've been writing about this for a while. I think the media are finally picking up on this. I think he's the perfect fit there, he's close to home and paired with Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, he'd have a great chance of winning a title. Some people tell me he won't do it because he doesn't want to play second fiddle to KD. But if that's the case, he isn't joining LeBron or Wade either.
http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/nba/columns/story?id=5197431 'Interestingly enough it took the youngest team in the league and the No. 8 seeded Oklahoma City Thunder to force the veteran laden Lakers get out of their comfort zone and understand they couldn't continue playing the way they were if they wanted to win it all this year. "Oklahoma really, really prepared us," said Andrew Bynum, who continues to battle through a slight tear in his lateral meniscus, scoring 4 points in 19 minutes. "That was a great young team that we faced. They have super speed and Kevin Durant is a great scorer and they presented a tough defense against us. They were one of the first teams to front the post and we couldn't get the ball inside and they were making all the good rotations. Give them credit they definitely prepared us for what was to come." Getting past the Thunder for the Lakers was like finding a way to beat Usain Bolt in the preliminary round. They weren't going to face a faster, more athletic team the rest of the way. If Derek Fisher could keep up with Russell Westbrook and if Ron Artest could slow down Kevin Durant, they were going to be just fine against anyone else left in the postseason. "Oklahoma really pushed the tempo and we really had to get used to that," Bynum said. "Since then everyone is like a step slower."'
Hey I know its not through the treeandleaf website, but I found some great Thunder shirts on ebay.. This being my clearcut favorite: http://cgi.ebay.com/THUNDER-FAN-BASKETBALL-IQ-OKLAHOMA-CITY-SHIRT-jersey-/200474781547?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item746a967d98

Royce, I just want to commend you on a job well done. Daily Thunder (IMHO) is the best out there in the TrueHoop Network. I went out and looked at some other team pages, and I must say, yours (ours) is the best by far. Layout, graphics, writing - it's just all great! Keep up the good work! Go Thunder!!
Hey, i really enjoy reading your blogs.I'm a big fan of kevin and the thunder you really brighten mt day I would LOVE it if you send me 5 tikets to any game

hey guys lets play some basketball whatever the problems, work them out later. i,m 74 years old and the one thing i enjoy doing has been taken away if I live long enough to see another game,m not sure if I want to. anyway thanks for the few good years we had Irvin knowles
Hey Royce, I'm a longtime reader. I'm going watch the OKC at New Jersey game tomorrow. I was wondering if you had any tips on how to best represent and cheer for the Thunder out of town, especially when I'll be in the vast minority of Thunder fans in the Prudential Center. Follow etiquette and stay silent or throw etiquette out and be even louder? The situation makes me wish I'd bought a beard shirt earlier. Other than that, keep doing what you do!
Hey Royce, got a quick legitimate question. Is Russell Westbrook the most valuable player in the NBA right now? I know he get's a lot of turnovers, but I feel like if he missed significant amount of games this year he would be missed more than anyone in the league. He fills the stat sheet as well as LeBron and hes a lot smaller. He also earns every thing on his stat line, in other word, every rebound, steal, assist, and point he gets come during meaningful parts of the game. And I would have to think so far this week, that he is the front runner for winning the Western Conference Player of the Week
I'm helping to produce a small booklet of writing about the Olympics, and wanted to ask about copyright for your Usain Bolt photo. We'd want to use a small version, roughly a quarter of an A5 page, in a booklet of which we'll be printing 200 copies. Would we have to pay for coyright, and if so, how much? with thanks, Paul Francis. .

Hey Royce this is Ray Tennyson from the Russell Westbrook painting video, I have another video done of Serge Ibaka that you can check out here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FgtM3dhdjM I was wondering when you get a chance if you could post it on your site. No biggie if not, really appreciate you for posting the Westbrook painting it helped a lot. Thanks again Ray Tennyson
The Seattle Sonics may have been bought with stolen money. Got that story from this moths Forbes Magazine. Google, Aubrey McClendon 1.1 billion... that is the amount of money missing, starting three years ago. Not a rumor SEC is now talking to Aubrey.
Dear Sir Charles aka The Round Mound of Rebound, I just wanted to be one of the first Oklahoma Thunder fans to welcome you to the Western Conference Finals in our great State of Oklahoma. Steak is on the menu when you arrive so I would like to invite you along with a very cute 5 year old Thunder fan named Isaiah to join us along with your friends to a steak dinner at Cattlemen's Steak House in the stockyard district of Oklahoma City. The attire for the dinner date will be your best western boots, starched jeans, cowboy hat & Thunder T-shirt...along with a huge appetite. Mouth wateringly huge that is because you are going to need Isaiah's help just getting out of the restaurant. We are buying so all you need to do is RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org at your earliest convenience. Oh, just one more thing, the weather forecast is Thunder no chance of Heat! Looking forward to the chance of meeting you, Thunder Fans, Grandma Kay and Isaiah aka "I"!!!
Hey there Royce - why has the blog been modified to this "word press" commenting format. The live-fyre method was superior. (IMO) The blog is still excellent- just wondering??
nevermind. livefyre is back. thank goodness
Hey you should come out with some kindof; "all you need to know about the San Antonio Spurs" cheat sheet. To help fans gear up for the game on Sunday. #ThunderUp!
http://youtu.be/FNAvje4s-og New Thunder Video out, by the "Beard Like Harden" gang. Check it out. It's called "Came to Play" !!!
Anybody know when the boys are flying back in? I'd like to start planning on giving them a proper Welcome Back presence.
Awesome new Thunder video!!!!!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VH4NKw2TBRM
@CrystalAylorCastor another awesome Thunder video!
Hi Royce, Thanks for all the hard work you put into this site. I come here everyday during the season. As the season has finished. I was wondering if you can write an article about what each player/head coach needs to work on and improve on for the 2012 to 2013 season. Hopefully you can get a consensus from the followers and pass it on to the players.
Why not look into get D12 for OKC. Ibaka/Perk/Thabo for D12 & Richardsn Sounds good. Ibaka or Harden are coming to the end of their rookie deal and 1 is certainly leaving soon, so make the push, go for it now. If D12 leaves after you still have Durant/Russel/Harden sounds good going forward. Lets do it OKC. Pick up the phone, make the call. Finals Rematch this time you win
Hey Royce, was stopping by to let you know I've completed a couple more Thunder painting videos of Thabo sefolosha and Kendrick Perkins. Check them out when you get a chance. Thanks man! dailythunder http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1kkITpTUCY
I think the missing piece in OKC is a scoring presence down low. But I don't think D12 is the answer. The Thunder have youth can culture as their strength so lets find someone who fits. In my mind its KEVIN LOVE. With Love you get a scoring down low and from out side, you get him for the best years of his career, and you know he'll fit in well, he played at UCLA with Westbrook. I'd give Perkins/Ibaka or Harden/Perkins to get him. Either way you have a guy that is a threat down low, gets insane rebounds and fits into the Thunder culture. Heck I'd even consider Ibaka/Harden.
Hi Royce! I'm a huge Thunder fan and have been waking up to your blog as my home page for the past year or so. Quick question- I remember reading in the "comments" section one time a link that had multiple Thunder games on YouTube(?) or Google Video or something of the sort in their entirety. I've been trying to look them up again and watch some to get excited for the season but I can't find any! Any help? Thanks!Mike B
How come nobody is talking about Perry Jones III anymore? If anything the Harden trade creates more minutes and more playing time for PJ3. This is sort of forgotten because of the shock factor that goes with losing Harden and his beard. But having PJ3 playing side by side with KD is so much more in play now than it was with Harden on board. Derrick
Hey Royce, From one Thunder fan to another. You got to check out this dude! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5Uwu-PspUA Love your blog! Thanks! EW
