I wrote a little blurb for my Fantasy site this morning and thought I would send it along. I am so amped about the potential that the Thunder have with their Big 3 of KD, Green and Russell. Here's my take... (if you do post somewhere please let me know) Primed for the Future In the NBA, a lot of stock is put in to teams' Big Three. Back in the Jordan days, the Big 3 was MJ, Pip and either Grant or Rodman. The Spurs had/have Timmy, Manu and Parker. Boston won it's title last year with their tre' of KG, Pierce and Ray Allen. Last night during Inside the NBA the question was posed about who had the best Big 3 currently: The C's, Orlando (Dwight, Jameer, Shard) or LA (Kobe, Pau, Bynum). It got me to thinking about a soon to be unstoppable Big 3 no one is talking about at the moment: The OKC Thunder's Durant, Green and Westbrook. Say what you will about the absolute decay of this franchise and controversial move to the City, but this young core of players is primed for a breakout in the near future. Kevin Durant, in his sophomore season, is #6 in the League in scoring and shooting 47% from the field and 43% from downtown. This is way up from the 43% and 29% from last year. He is easily a candidate for the All-Star team this year. Now while Durant raised his scoring average by 4ppg this year, Jeff Green has emerged as a solid #2 by increasing his ppg by almost 6 from 10.5 to 16.4. He is also tied for the team lead in boards with Durant while raising all of his percentages. And finally we have the emergence of rookie Russell Westbrook from UCLA who came out of nowhere to be drafted high, started out slow, but now has thrown his name in to the hat for ROY consideration. While he is only shooting 41% from the field, he still manages to put of 14.5 ppg and since supplanting Earl Watson in the starting lineup has seen his assists climb near 5. He is also top 20 in steals (#2 amongst rookies behind Mario Chalmers). Sure, there are growing pains here but in their last 10 games, the Thunder have won 5 which doubled their pathetic win total of 4. They beat a solid Jazz and Pistons teams at home and made the Bulls losers in Chicago. Currently the OKC Big Three are averaged a combined 55.1 ppg. Compare that with Atlanta's JJ, Bibby and Smith at 54.4; Boston's 3 at 53.3; Dallas' Dirk, Josh and Terry at 64; LA Story at 57.5. I could go on and on but the point here is that the Thunder are young and hungry and only getting better. Durant and Green are in their 2nd year and Westbrook a rookie. The future is looking bright in Oklahoma and things are only going to get better.

I'd really like to see you address this mounting "better without Durant?" issue that ESPN is beginning to push. Yes, the team has played better defense while he was out, but in a 6 game sample what does that truly say? It's becoming another slap to Durant and OKC that ESPN is giving legitimate thought to the idea that he hurts a team. Here's the real meat of it. Durant is not on the same level, defensively, as Thabo. However, no one seems to mention that 1) two wins came against the hapless Grizzlies and Wizards (Wizards with more injuries than OKC) 2) opposing SFs have been as good against the Thunder as ever (Brandan Wright was 8-10 from the field) and 3) have gotten more production out of their bench players than they have all year. I'm not saying the wins aren't good wins, but to suggest a team is better without its far and away best player is just some kind of stupid.

This has Kevin Durant as the 7th highest earning NBA player...There's no way this is correct...even w/ ads and stuff...He can't possibly make more then Wade, Anthony or Mcgrady (the ones listed below him) I hadn't heard about this site till u guys blogged about it...but anyways...wondering what you thought.. http://www.sporcle.com/games/highearnathletes.php

@ Royce I really enjoy your take on the Thunder and the NBA. Here is a topic I would like to learn more about. With all the focus on the draft, let's not forget that we are entering a possible K-Mart shoppers free agent market. Last year, the Clip-Joint picked up Marcus Camby from the Nuggies for expiring contracts and a couple of used jock straps...all in the name of "Cap Space" and the resulting luxury tax bill. Which teams will find themselves in a similar situation this year? The Hornets come to mind. Might a post-surgery Tyson Chandler be obtained for expiring contracts? If so, I volunteer Earl and Damien...okay, so we also throw in a couple of new jock straps. Attention NBA Shoppers (aka Sam Presti), bargain contracts on Aisle 3! With a lower cap number, is it possible that more restricted free agents will be in play this off-season than in past years? Inquiring minds want to know.

Hey Royce, Just wanted to say how much I LOVE Daily Thunder. As a college kid who saw his first Thunder game in person when Lebron came to OKC in December, I have really fallen in love with everything about this team. It is a little harder for me to follow them, because I am from Kansas City and go to school at KU. But I check Daily Thunder everyday as my #1 source for Thunder news and analysis. I love your commentary and insight on the team and I can't wait for this fall for the new season and your posts. I also wanted to point out that you post a lot more than some of the other TrueHoop blogs, which makes a huge difference when frequenting your favorite blogs everyday. Anyways, I appreciate your hard work and dedication, and just know that us up in KC do appreciate your website. Please keep up the posts and good work. All the Best, Todd Brown

Hey, I didn't get to catch the game last night. good thing, huh? However, Harden had a pretty good game. I was wondering if you might be willing to do a play by play break down of him like you did for the game against Detroit where he had 5 assists in the second quarter? Ryan

Another sign we have arrived as a quality team, on By the Horns (the Bulls TrueHoop blog) Matt McHale wrote yesterday, "The schedule won’t be in Chicago’s favor for long though. The Bulls now face a stretch where they play 10 of their next 12 games on the road, and they will face the Celtics, Suns, Rockets, Spurs, Thunder, and Hawks in that span. It’s going to be rough. Maybe even very rough." Who would have thought before the season that the Thunder would be used with that group when saying how tough an upcoming schedule would be?

This was in Chad Ford's chat wrap today.... Ryan (OKC) Chances of Bosh in OKC? Chad Ford (1:20 PM) I've been writing about this for a while. I think the media are finally picking up on this. I think he's the perfect fit there, he's close to home and paired with Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, he'd have a great chance of winning a title. Some people tell me he won't do it because he doesn't want to play second fiddle to KD. But if that's the case, he isn't joining LeBron or Wade either.

http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/nba/columns/story?id=5197431 'Interestingly enough it took the youngest team in the league and the No. 8 seeded Oklahoma City Thunder to force the veteran laden Lakers get out of their comfort zone and understand they couldn't continue playing the way they were if they wanted to win it all this year. "Oklahoma really, really prepared us," said Andrew Bynum, who continues to battle through a slight tear in his lateral meniscus, scoring 4 points in 19 minutes. "That was a great young team that we faced. They have super speed and Kevin Durant is a great scorer and they presented a tough defense against us. They were one of the first teams to front the post and we couldn't get the ball inside and they were making all the good rotations. Give them credit they definitely prepared us for what was to come." Getting past the Thunder for the Lakers was like finding a way to beat Usain Bolt in the preliminary round. They weren't going to face a faster, more athletic team the rest of the way. If Derek Fisher could keep up with Russell Westbrook and if Ron Artest could slow down Kevin Durant, they were going to be just fine against anyone else left in the postseason. "Oklahoma really pushed the tempo and we really had to get used to that," Bynum said. "Since then everyone is like a step slower."'

Hey Royce, I'm a longtime reader. I'm going watch the OKC at New Jersey game tomorrow. I was wondering if you had any tips on how to best represent and cheer for the Thunder out of town, especially when I'll be in the vast minority of Thunder fans in the Prudential Center. Hey Royce, got a quick legitimate question. Is Russell Westbrook the most valuable player in the NBA right now? I know he get's a lot of turnovers, but I feel like if he missed significant amount of games this year he would be missed more than anyone in the league. He fills the stat sheet as well as LeBron and hes a lot smaller. He also earns every thing on his stat line, in other word, every rebound, steal, assist, and point he gets come during meaningful parts of the game. And I would have to think so far this week, that he is the front runner for winning the Western Conference Player of the Week

Why not look into get D12 for OKC. Ibaka/Perk/Thabo for D12 & Richardsn Sounds good. Ibaka or Harden are coming to the end of their rookie deal and 1 is certainly leaving soon, so make the push, go for it now. If D12 leaves after you still have Durant/Russel/Harden sounds good going forward. Lets do it OKC. Pick up the phone, make the call. Finals Rematch this time you win

I think the missing piece in OKC is a scoring presence down low. But I don't think D12 is the answer. The Thunder have youth can culture as their strength so lets find someone who fits. In my mind its KEVIN LOVE. With Love you get a scoring down low and from out side, you get him for the best years of his career, and you know he'll fit in well, he played at UCLA with Westbrook. I'd give Perkins/Ibaka or Harden/Perkins to get him. Either way you have a guy that is a threat down low, gets insane rebounds and fits into the Thunder culture. Heck I'd even consider Ibaka/Harden.

How come nobody is talking about Perry Jones III anymore? If anything the Harden trade creates more minutes and more playing time for PJ3. This is sort of forgotten because of the shock factor that goes with losing Harden and his beard. But having PJ3 playing side by side with KD is so much more in play now than it was with Harden on board. Derrick
