Kevin Martin fined $5,000 for second flopping violation

by Royce Young on January 23, 2013 at 10:44 am 181 Comments

Caught, again.

Kevin Martin has been fined $5,000 for receiving a second flopping violation, the league announced Wednesday.

The flop happened Jan. 20 against the Nuggets. Martin went up for a long jumper and with Andre Miller nearby, completely faked contact and went to the ground (video is above). Major flop and one very much deserving of being penalized. Martin was warned for a flop Nov. 12 against the Pistons where he exaggerated contact in a fairly similar fashion.

Martin is just the fourth player that has been fined joining Reggie Evans, Gerald Wallace and J.J. Barea. In total, 12 players have been warned.

The next violation will result in a $10,000 fine.

I'm actually warming up to a Maynor & Orton & Dallas pick for Jimmer Fredette. Sacto NEEDS a true point guard. And like Royce says, the Kings use Jimmer in the wrong way. He needs to be used as an outside threat/floor spacer, not a point guard.

 @diddoff here's the article translated

"The Oklahoma City Thunder are increasingly making efforts to build a franchise around champion Kevin Durant ,Russell Westbrook and Serge Ibaka . They are the three pillars of a team hungry for titles to which the next season, in which they are thinking, you could add a veteran luxury. As can overtakeTUBASKET.com , the Thunder seek the signing of forward Pete Mickeal (34, 1.99 m.) once completed his contract with BarçaRegal this summer. see him as the ideal man to bring experienceto a young team and also to add more weapons to their arsenal: they like their post game , which is not just one of their starters in the game outside the Swiss Thabo Sefolosha , more inclined to play facing the basket. 's interest is such that emissaries of theThunder have followed Mickeal live in recent weeks, in Malagaand Barcelona . Among them the very general manager of the franchise, Sam Presti . 's signing by the Thunder would be a great climax after a successful career in Spain : three ACB League ,one Euroleague , two King's Cups and four Super Cups , so far.Selected with the number 58 draft pick in 2000 by the Mavericks, Mickeal never debut in the NBA . was part of the staff of theKnicks at the start of the season 2000-01 , and was on theHouston Rockets between September 2002 and January 2003 .But he stayed with the thorn stuck playing a competitive game in aleague that, according to him, is a natural fit. "In the NBA, everything is different, you can use either the body and will not be missing. This year, in the NBA, if you 'flopping' you get a ticket, increasingly high. The 'flopping' is not basketball. In the NBA there is more contact in the low post, here it is the minimum necessary. Why? For me this is not basketball, but nothing happens " , said Mickeal in October, after the friendly against the Dallas Mavericks . Just what we are looking theThunder : hardness, post game and experience. The hardest path I see Miami taking is:

First Round: Milwaukee

Second Round: Brooklyn (Brook Lopez could give them fits)

Third Round: Indiana

I believe if this is the path to the Finals, Miami will fall before then. With my vote going this way:

30 % Milwaukee

20% Brooklyn

50% Indiana

MostJadedGamer
MostJadedGamer 5pts

@DeMolay_Thunder  Thats one of the weaker paths. No Chicago or Boston???????

Boston

Chicago

New York

Would be the most difficult path.

Keith00
Keith00 5pts

@MostJadedGamer  @DeMolay_Thunder Boston is any good. Chicago isn't going to be a threat unless Rose is back and fully healthy. The fact is, the East just sucks in general, and the only tough series we might see is Miami-New York.

PHilly, bulls, pacers would be best. I dont know if the rankings give you this but. I hope so.

DeMolay_Thunder

@PerkPunt I had Brooklyn beating the Bulls in the first round. Philly is number 9 right now so in theory that could be one of their paths.

Keith00
Keith00 5pts

@DeMolay_Thunder  @Lost Ones  @PerkPunt Are we presuming a Chicago team with or without Rose? Without him, they aren't much of a threat against Miami. They'll make Miami work with great defense, but Miami will ultimately outscore them.

DeMolay_Thunder
DeMolay_Thunder 5pts

@Lost Ones  @PerkPunt And you may be right. I am liking the way the Nets have been playing lately. That's all. That series I think really would be a 4/5 toss up.

Martin happy in OKC January, 23, 2013Jan 2310:24AM ETBy Nick Borges | ESPN.comRecommend1Comments2EmailPrintKevin Martin was part of the package Oklahoma City acquired from Houston when James Harden and a couple other player were sent to the Rockets. Martin admits he felt pressure as Harden played a major role in OKC's success since he was drafted. "It's tough. But I think that's where my personality comes in," Martin told ESPN's J.A. Adande. "Just staying level, don't get too high, don't get too low, just be confident in what you did over the last eight years in the league. Coming in, trying to fit in and not mess up." Martin is having a solid season coming off the bench and he's averaging 15.0 points, while shooting 43.5 percent on three-point shots. The shooting guard will be a free agent in July and he will likely take a major salary reduction and re-sign with the Thunder. "When your two big dogs come back in, you just go back to your third-man role," Martin said. "I accepted it. This is probably the happiest I've been in my career since my Sacramento days

@Tronchaser  @dollarbillrussell  @okcjim  @justin_mia  @tygablood  Off the top of my head, I'm trying to think of a team that has money AND a good situation for him. Miami, NY, and Memphis are good situations but no money left. Lakers, Mavs, and (Seattle) have money to spend but are a dead situation. If K-Mart leaves it might be to the Nets, Wolves, or a dark horse like maybe Indiana

Tronchaser

@dollarbillrussell  @okcjim  @justin_mia  @tygablood 7 or 8 million would be a bargain price for his level. Ihope we do, but I'm not gonna hold my breath for it.

@Lost Ones KD has always been "not nice" on the court. It's kind of weird that it took a nike marketing campaign for people to notice. He's always been a little bit nasty though. I guess his good guy image overshadowed it though.

@Kevin Durant's Pocket Guide To Defying Physics @Lost Ones nah. This is a different level of nastiness tho ... He's not bitching about calls or anything, he's not passively letting defenders dictate how he plays ... & he's far more fiery with his team the crowd & the opposition ... Notice the last few games, Russ gives KD the ball & gets outta his way, this is all due to him showing that fire .
