Forget the season starting, the best thing about today is Stephen Jackson and Kevin Durant’s anticipated track “Lonely at the Top” dropping. (You can buy it on iTunes.)

And you know what? I dig it. I really do. Jackson is good and KD is solid. It’s not your typical NBA-player-wants-to-be-Kanye cringefest. It’s kind of… good.

A sampling of KD’s lines: “Young boy in the game and I’m 23 money like a vet why fret over a hundred g’s … Trey five on my back for my OG, never overlook a single a word that he told me.”

So yeah, pretty much the next Stairway to Heaven if you ask me.

I might be missing something but I can't find another instance where a player of Harden's caliber was traded with one year or more remaining on a rookie scale contract.

@justin_mia I'd guess the difference is, there hasn't been a case of a team drafting 4 max-ish level players in a 3 year span, and there's never been a harsher penalty for going into the luxury tax. Both those things worked against us in resigning him, and I doubt anyone has ever had those elements to deal with before.

Devin Harris was traded by Dallas at the trade deadline of his last season of rookie scale, is the closest I can find.

Al Jefferson is one. He was traded draft night 2007 as a part of the Garnett package with one year of rookie scale remaining.

@SilenceTheLambs Play one on one blackcourt. Don't play D. It'll just slow down the process. Just pop 3's with KD when you have the ball. In 11 shots you'll earn 150 points. Repeat.

KD's flow isn't awkward, which is a big plus. The hook for this song, however, might be one the most obnoxious and unlistenable things I've heard in the last few weeks.
