I can't watch any of the games due to work, except for Friday and it's at 7 a.m. So I will be relying on you fellow DT'ers to let us others know how they're looking.

Unless Royce is planning on doing recaps? Or at least posting the box scores?

I hope that KG rips Ray Allen a new asshole when they play against eachother for the first time.

Darnell thinks Ryan Reid is going to give Perry his "welcome to the NBA moment" at some point during practice for summer league. I got to see so little of Ryan Reid play while he was here I didn't realize Reid was supposed to be especially physical.

@Old Man Game I don't think Reid gives especially hard fouls, he's not a tough guy in that sense. But he's probably the best post defender in the Thunder organization.

I think Reid probably makes OKC's opening roster again. Latavious will take the money in Europe, he'll be very in demand there after his great year with the Spanish club.

@DXL  @Old Man Game yeah i dont think he meant like a huge shoulder block or anything life altering. just maybe something that says ;)  welcome dude~

Old Man Game

@DXL So, we know league minimum is like 880,000.00. What do you suppose Williams will make in Spain? 500,000.00? 1,000,000.00? He's sort of an established name over there now.

Jooseppi
Jooseppi 5pts

@Old Man Game  @DXL League minimum scales with NBA experience, so Lat would be at about $470k here if he were to get the minimum, as he has 0 years.

Whats this talk about changing teh "charge" rule?  WHo can explain this?

Lambchop
Lambchop 5pts

Maybe its not actually being considered.  I think it was just speculation from Hoopshype:

Id prefer the change, KD could do more with that.  Batier was thwarting alot of comebacks with his charge taking

@K-Dagger Daniel Plainview "Van Gundy suggests a simple change: penalizing charging fouls solely as turnovers and not as personal fouls. This change would allow offensive weapons who possess a strong dribble/drive game to remain aggressive."

i actually agree with that

@Legendary_dork  I also don't think the superstar treatment would get handed out as much. There were several instances of Nick getting completely screwed on charge non-calls by the refs in the Finals as the refers deferred to Wade and Bosh in particular.

Not really thunder news but looks like Blake made the final 12 man roster.

If you classify PJ3 at his natural position at small forward, then the Thunder is 3-deep at every position except for PF:

Center: Perk, Cole, Thabeet

SF: KD, Lazar, PJ3

SG: Thabo, Harden, Cook

PG: Westbrook, Maynor, Jackson

PF: Ibaka, Collison

Latavious Williams and Ryan Reid, who are both on the summer league roster, should battle it out for the third PF spot.

Old Man Game
Old Man Game 5pts

@DXL I'm a little disappointed to see Perry behind Lazar on the depth chart but I suppose that's realistic given what we've seen from Brooks.

DXL
DXL 5pts like.author.displayName like.author.displayName like.author.displayName 3 Like

@Old Man Game Rookies have to earn their slot. But PJ3 is the most exciting rookie OKC has had since Ibaka. I could very easily see him forcing Brooks to give him playing time by the 2nd half of the year.

Need PJ3 or Aldrich to become X-factors by the time the playoffs start next year.

Another reason not to trade Westbrook for Rondo: none of his teammates like Rondo. Allen turns down $6 million b/c of feud with Rondo?

@Amuro I also remember Rondo quitting the Team USA tryouts before he could be cut. You're supposed to be representing your country, not worrying about individual pride! The guy's just very touchy.

@DXL Don't forget http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=El2nOmymFwE He is still one of my favorite players in the NBA despite all that. Their games are pretty different, but Rondo plays the game with a mentality that is similar to Westbrook's imo.

My worldview is skewed toward basketball but I can't escape the conclusion that the NBA is absolutely blowing up. It seems like everyone talked about the finals, they were the best rated in several years, and now even free agency is getting an immense amount of coverage in the broader media landscape. It is a great time to be a fan of the NBA.

Reasons for optimism this coming season:

1. We still have KD, who flipped a switch during the playoffs, and could be the best player in the league this season.

2. Harden will be better (especially if he gets to play with Kobe in the olympics).

3. Ibaka will still be the best shot-blocker in the league, and has a chance to expand on the flashes of a post game he showed in the playoffs.

4. Perk's groin won't be torn.

5. No more long fisher 2s.

6. Russell Westbrook is a BEAST, and seems to have realized his role on this team.

7. PJ3 could be the best player from this draft class.

8. Eric Maynor will be leading our second unit.

9. The two teams that look like our biggest competition for the title are getting older, and aren't very deep to begin with.

@DSYIII The biggest reason to be optimistic is that this is a Finals team that had a relative waltz to the Finals, they'll be at last season's strength or better, and a full training camp to (hopefully) sort out defensive issues.

courtsense

@DSYIII 1. Disagree. No reason to suspect KD will surpass LBJ yet, given the nature of LBJ's advantange (passing, defense).

2. Agreed. He better be.

3. Agreed. He better be.

4. Agreed.

5. Perhaps...he's still out there.

6. Seems likely.

7. No way to know.

8. No way to know.

9. Assuming you're talking about Miami and LA, they're also getting better.

Old Man Game

@courtsense  L.A. is getting better but to the extent they are relying on and building their team this season around aging stars you would assume they are increasing the risk of a collapse if one of those guys were to develop injury issues as older players are prone to do. If you take Nash out of that lineup for a 3 week span for instance, where are they at the end of that?

courtsense
courtsense 5pts

@Old Man Game Agreed. But every team risks injury...not every team gets better, if that makes sense.

@DSYIII Don't jinx it on Jones. All we can say for sure is he has all the tools and a great opportunity here to prove a lot of teams wrong that passed on him.

@Old Man Game There's definitely a reason he wasn't a lottery pick, but monitoring his potential development COULD be one of the most exciting parts of this season.

@DSYIII I have a small theory about PJ3 slipping. Stern mighta felt bad about the Celts stealing our 2nd round pick, and started the rumors that PJ3 is not a lottery talent and injured.

@DSYIII You know something that is interesting about Perry I've noticed in watching his highlights, he's a big man (or at least a tall man) that moves like a smaller man. We've seen plenty of guys who have size and can handle the ball but I don't recall another guy 6'10" or bigger that handles and carries himself quite as smoothly as this kid. It's really impressive.
