Your turn, PJIII.
The Thunder announced that Perry Jones III has been assigned to the Tulsa 66ers.
Jones joins Daniel Orton and Jeremy Lamb in Tulsa. DeAndre Liggins, who was with the 66ers, was recently called up to the Thunder.
More than likely it’ll be a bit of a revolving door for those four players all bouncing up and down between Tulsa and the Thunder. Same as for Lamb, this just gives Jones a chance to play, something he wasn’t getting with the Thunder.
This season, Jones has appeared in 10 games for OKC averaging 1.2 points and 1.4 rebounds in 7.6 minutes per game.

i'd like to see some comparable data of minor league usage for training. the Baseball seems obvious but seeing as most players are drafted to play in the minors it doesn't work. Maybe NHL? Although those kids are recruited well before they can even drive. Is there any comparable data that would suggest 1-2 years in the d league can produce very good NBA players?
the problem with using the d league comes from roster spots. Yes, the player can get implemented to the org's culture easier but they take up a valuable spot. The other leagues have the ability to draft a player to groom but not have to stick with them on the roster. This model might never be effective until the NBA can make some changes.
maybe if the league would allow 2nd rounders to be placed on a d -league team with no penalties and the drafting team still keeps the bird rights we might see more use out of this program.
@PerkPunt @crow I agree, PerkPunt, I've been interested in the use (specifically the lack of proper implementation) of the D-League.
On one hand, there should be opportunity to develop obvious projects like Thabeet (when he was first drafted). On the other, teams can't rightly afford to develop players for extended time when they are making significant money and taking up a roster spot.
I think there is a lot of opportunity for change and improvement. For example, I think that teams should be allowed to assign players to their D-league team at the beginning of each year, as a full year commitment. The team still pays the player's salary, but the player does not count against their cap or their roster spots (the team can choose to keep both counted if they are below the salary floor or roster minimum). The player cannot be called up until the following year. A player can be assigned this way only for their first two years in the league. The team then must choose to add them to the active roster or allow them to be available in a D-League draft (this would be after the normal draft and only include D-League players). It would go in reverse order of record (no lottery), and if a team selects a player, they give up their second rounder the following year. If a team has no second rounder the following year, they cannot participate in the draft.
@PerkPunt How many americans actually play in europe though, most of the players I think are still european. Dleague pay needs to be better to really improve, a lot of decent college players might do it if it paid better than working at mcdonalds, but with the average salary being garbage, I think i read $10,000 a year, it isn't enough money for players to live on.
i'm pulling a @crow here but this is an interesting topic to me.
Does this make the euro leagues? upset? would we see more homegrown players through this change? Would the strength of euro leagues dwindle because of this?
@PerkPunt yeah it is redundant with ncaa, it needs to more fleshed out to not force teams to sign them to nba contracts while retaining rights.
Set a two year max for drafted players.
@PerkPunt nope. d league is more of a place to show you can have NBA skills, not develop NBA skills. the quality of competition is just too much of a drop off... speed of the game/physicality are too different to easily compare
@RRRWHATEVER kinda like ncaa? seems redundant doesnt it.?
wow, Vick benched for the rest of the season
I say he just needs NBA time. we should start him. as well as liggins, lamb, orton, and me
@RRRWHATEVER Looked up "Dynasty" in the Dictionary and found this line-up.
@duhsweetness we will crush the wizards
It will be a good test for Jones. If he tears up the D-league then we'll know he has some NBA potential at least. If he's marginal it's a very bad sign.
Hollinger says some teams had Jones rated as a clear second rounder because of his lack of college production.
@DXL The whole "knee will only hold up for 3-4 years" thing is such a joke. No true explanation of what the problem is and it ignores conventional medicine and the myriad of procedures that are available to a modern day athlete
@DXL he was the 28th pick, not like there have been any better options
@f5alcon @DXL Hey, you guys remember that time when we weren't called the Thunder yet, and we took Serge Ibaka at 24 (right after Courtney Lee and Kosta Koufos)?? sigh. I love Thunder.
@f5alcon @DXL There were definitely other good options, but it wasn't a bad decision to take a flier, IMO.
@anonymous12345 @Jooseppi @f5alcon @DXL he won't be a huge Nba scorer ever but he can be a solid NBA player. He can shoot the ball and he's obviously very athletic so he can be a very good defender. He just needs to find what works for him at this level and perfect it.
@PerkPunt @f5alcon @DXL The team seemed to be working out mostly 3s and 4s. Nicholson, Vorontsevich, Crowder etc.
@Jooseppi @f5alcon @DXL
There was also some report about his knee not holding up after 3-4 years that scared lottery teams away
@Jooseppi @f5alcon @DXL he is what we needed. SF/PF with some length i don't have a problem with it. he does need to work in the post more.
THIS THREAD GOT JOKES.
He better create quite the dunk-reel in Tulsa or I don't even know what we're doing anymore...
Im scared for our team in the short run with so many minutes and such little rotation.
@Lost Ones The blowouts have evened it out a little. Durant and Westbrook both a half minute more per game than last year. Ibaka and Thabo eating most of the extra.
@Lost Ones Boo! ..... don't be scared.
PJ3 wanted to drive to the team office to bitch and complain, but he didn't have a motor.
@D-MC who the hell told u that?
@D-MC HOF.
@D-MC OK, I laughed.
have we had anyone go yet and come back to actually become a contributor
@Old Man Game
No, but to be fair, we've never had someone sit on the bench for a year or two and and then all of a sudden become a contributor. It is what it is.
@Old Man Game Serge?
I guess this all means a 9 man rotation for the foreseeable future.
@justin_mia i'd still like to see liggins get some run when KD is pulled in the first, instead of Thabo
@justin_mia Martin is gonna end up playing over 30 minutes in these next few games if they're not blowouts. I personally wouldn't mind seeing him play 32-35 mpg a few times at this point in the season.
PJIII prolly maaaaaaad right now.
I am looking forward to seeing PJ3 play there. It will be fun!
Didn't see this one coming.
