This isn’t exactly big news, because the Thunder’s timetable for Russell Westbrook had him returning after the All-Star break, but Adrian Wojnarowski reported Saturday that Feb. 20 could be the target for his return.
There’s a post-All-Star break target date set for Westbrook, sources told Yahoo Sports – as soon as Feb. 20, hosting the Miami Heat.
That’s right Westbrook return for the game against the Heat. That could be fun.
But that’s not the significance. Because there’s also this from Woj:
All around this franchise, there’s a belief the best of Durant and Westbrook – the best of these Thunder – comes with the final weeks of the regular season and a playoff run into June. That knee is strong again, Westbrook’s meniscus problems behind him, and it is merely precaution that’s keeps him out until after the All-Star break this month, sources said.
That’s the same message I’ve heard from everyone I’ve talked to. Westbrook’s knee is, and has always been healthy. It’s just about trying to make him as comfortable and confident in it as the Thunder push toward the postseason.
Also, be sure to read Woj’s column. It’s exciting.
