Serge Ibaka fined $25,000 for hitting Blake Griffin

by Royce Young on March 5, 2013 at 3:23 pm 4 Comments

Serge Ibaka has been fined $25,000 for his low blow on Blake Griffin, the league announced Tuesday.

He will not serve a suspension.

While tangling with Griffin in OKC’s 108-104 win over the Clippers Sunday, Ibaka struck Griffin below the belt. After a review of the play, it was determined to be a Flagrant 1 and Ibaka was allowed to remain in the game.

Ibaka’s foul was also upgraded from a Flagrant 1 to a Flagrant 2, meaning Ibaka should have been ejected.

Thunder players are so dirty! Such a disgrace to basketball.

Give me a break. I waited all the next day for someone to point out that Blake was holding him at the time and he just wanted Blake out of his space. Maybe I am the only sports fan with true vision though

I bet if you polled all the players in the NBA if they would be willing to pay $25,000 to punch Blake Griffin in the nuts, you'd get more yes's then no's

Totally silly.  If they were going to upgrade it to a Flagrant 2 he should be suspended at least a game (to "Make up" for the missed ejection).  I don't think it should have been upgraded at all.  The intent just wasn't there.  Excessive? Yes.  Intentional?  Doubtful.  He wasnt even looking at Griffin when it happened he was looking up at the rim.  #nbafail
