Betting website Sportsbook.ag has released their futures on win totals for the 2013-14 season and the Thunder come in pegged at 50.5 wins.
That seems low. Crazy low.
Even with Russell Westbrook out the first month or so of the season, to put the Thunder at 50 wins just seems almost… disrespectful. This is a team that won 60 last season and hasn’t won fewer than 50 since their inaugural season in Oklahoma City.
Obviously there’s a lack of trust in the new second unit with the Thunder playing without Kevin Martin this season. I suppose if Jeremy Lamb is a flop and Reggie Jackson doesn’t build on the promise of last season then yeah, the Thunder could struggle to win 50. But then again, Kevin Durant. And Westbrook will be back for about 80 percent of the season.
At 50.5 wins, Vegas puts the Thunder behind the Bulls (56.5), Rockets (55.5), Pacers (55), Clippers (57.5), Spurs (55.5), Heat (60.5) and even with the Knicks and Warriors. That means OKC is estimated to finish four or maybe fifth in the West. Yikes.
I’ve had the Thunder at 58 wins prior to Westbrook’s surgery, and think they’re on track to still win 54-56 games without him. I’m not a betting man, and I hesitate to ever give any advice, but I’m thinking the over here is a safe play.
