@ThunderChick2010 If you haven't listened to their first album, I can't recommend it highly enough.  Fun/The Format (the original band that broke up) has been my favorite group as long as I can remember.  They are just really fun to listen to :)

Dancassidy35, are you out there?  I left the game broadcast at halftime for a restroom break (watching from Tropicana in LV) when we were down by fifteen.  The casino was blaring Don't Stop Believin' which I took as a good omen.   :)

All I can say is WOW. What a game, what a series, what a comeback! This Thunder team has a lot of grit that's for sure. Whoever we play it isn't going to be easy, but one thing's for sure. We know our Thunder wont go down without a fight.

I think the question of who we play in the Finals is similar to the same question we were asking up to the last day of the regular season: who do we play in the first round? The team to whom we are clearly superior and would have an advantage over (though obviously no guarantee to win) or the team with a thousand storylines abounding, and a better chance to beat the Thunder.

That being said, I'll take the narrative. I wanted the Mavericks so we could expel the demons, so we could move on knowing that our team was that much better than the year before. Then the Lakers, who forever have been the icon of the West, the most recognizable team in the NBA, who we've slowly caught up to, but that loss in 2010 still stung. They still claimed to be better, and we set that to rest and we seem to have truly ended their rule, and pried away their iconoclastic status. Then came the Spurs, who sneaked up to take first place, and home court. There was the winning streak, the coaching, the system, and the history. Historically, the Spurs haven't "given us trouble" or "pestered us". They have dominated us. Up until an unprecedented four game winning streak, they had our number each and every time on the court.

And now we stand, with two options. Behind the first door, what seems to be the easy way out. The matchups are in our favor, and a loss would be disappointing. But this year, and really this franchise, has been about growth. These playoffs have furthered that. Not just 10 of the last 13 champions, but the three teams who have been in charge of half of the NBA for over a decade. Royce pointed it out: it's time. It's no longer "when they get there", we're staring a potential dynasty in the face. It's first page will be written over the next 4-7 games. Give me the team that has been our mirror image as much as our opposite. The frightening athleticism teasing at the unlimited potential. But they have been the villain of the NBA, and we stand ready to take them down. They are the biggest obstacle to our future, and after banishing the past, I only hope we can step over them to reach our destiny.

I never doubted that the Thunder could come back. This team has taught me never to count them out. But they came within 0.4 seconds of being down by 18 at halftime.  That 3rd Quarter was incredible!

@OBoymuzik Also Durant being better than Lebron. It bothers me that media can't celebrate a win without comparing it to past failures (Blazers/Oden and Lebron).  Can't we just appreciate two really incredible players? And it's not like every team can win a finals.  Championships are crazy hard to win

EVDebs

@FREE_COLE  @OBoymuzik I don't like LBJ, but I actually feel sorry for him. Though The Decision was a stupid PR move on his part, nobody of his talent and achievement deserves all the second guessing he receives from the media.

@ThunderStruck2412  @courtsense  @FREE_COLE  @OBoymuzik All that being said, I don't like the Heat, I don't like LBJ, and I look forward to seeing them eliminated from the playoffs, this round or next.

@ThunderStruck2412  @courtsense  @FREE_COLE  @OBoymuzik This.  The Decision plus the party were really boneheaded. Other than that it's all been narrative-driven media autopilot.  Seeing the way the media treated Russ during last year's playoff run gave me a better understanding of the dynamics of this kinda thing.

@courtsense  @EVDebs  @FREE_COLE  @OBoymuzik I disagree with that statement. The party at their arena when they all signed was a bad PR move...but other then that? Not sure what he's really done to warrant the criticism he does garner. Simmons had a great article in Grantland about it.

@EVDebs  @FREE_COLE  @OBoymuzik Problem is, he brought ALL of it upon himself.

@FREE_COLE  @OBoymuzik The only way to evaluate a player's performance is ultimately to measure him against his peers.  When you're as good as Durant you don't have many.  So we get LeBron vs. Durant a lot.

Jooseppi
Jooseppi 5pts

@justin_mia  @FREE_COLE  @OBoymuzik Also for those about to jump on me, I think LeBron is better but I wouldn't trade Durant for anybody in the world for a number of reason.

Jooseppi
Jooseppi 5pts

@justin_mia  @FREE_COLE  @OBoymuzik I think LeBron is a better player, as well. I'm talking about the BS, like after Durant's game 4, people we're saying "Well that's the difference between him and LeBron." Well, no it wasn't, let's go to 2007. Or even on the other side, when they talk about Durant's scoring without acknowledging all the other things LeBron is asked to do. Stuff like that. Comparisons for context are great and welcome. Comparisons for BS aren't.

MissYouCole
MissYouCole 5pts

@justin_mia  @Jooseppi  @OBoymuzik Agreed.  My point was simply on the actual way the comparison is made.  Individual skill sets vs crediting an individual as better because they have a championships.  Champs are used as measures after careers are said and done.  And that is where Lebron is gonna get hit if we win

[censored]
[censored] 5pts like.author.displayName 1 Like

@FREE_COLE  @Jooseppi  @OBoymuzik LeBron is a better player than Durant.  I'm okay with that.  It's a huge, huge credit to Durant that he's been able to close the gap to the point that a discussion can be made about this.  Durant has other qualities that may make it easier to construct a team around him, though.

MissYouCole
MissYouCole 5pts

@Jooseppi  @justin_mia  @OBoymuzik Yeah. I mean Justin, you and I were some of the only people willing to concede KD wasn't mvp over Lebron.  Individually, it's a fun comparison game.  But champs require so much more.

Jooseppi
Jooseppi 5pts like.author.displayName 1 Like

@justin_mia  @FREE_COLE  @OBoymuzik The discussion rarely has to do with actual play though. I don't think there's anything wrong with it in the context you are describing and I've seen you lead such discussions on these threads, and they are perfectly fine. It's all the BS that takes priority which is an issue.

MissYouCole
MissYouCole 5pts

@justin_mia  @OBoymuzik Yeah I understand it's inevitable.  But how about we wait till it's all said and done?  Or at least, not crucify lebron because KD succeeded. I'm totally cool with comparison in a positive way. KD vs Lebron is an interesting debate, and honestly a great compliment both ways.  But let's compare their individual performances, not championships, which are subject to so many other factors.

And Lebron's what, 28?  He's got time.

neo12
neo12 5pts

@OBoymuzik The Heat would be a sweeter victory, but getting the championship is most important.  I'll take the celtics.
