Russell Westbrook Wins “Best Male Athlete” at ESPYs

Russell Westbrook will need to create more space on his trophy shelf — he has been named Best Male Athlete at the 2017 ESPY Awards.

Westbrook was nominated against Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps, Kris Bryant of the Chicago Cubs and Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins. The award is Westbrook’s second ESPY, as he won Best Comeback Player in 2014.

Here is his full acceptance speech:

The award caps a night that featured far more Russell Westbrook than he likely bargained for. Peyton Manning took a playful jab at Kevin Durant during the opening monologue, which clearly made both of the former teammates uncomfortable.
