NBA 2K12 rankings unveiled: Durant’s a 92, Westbrook an 88

I really look forward to NBA 2K12’s ratings every year because it’s kind of the only way to get an actual list with actual numerical values to rank every NBA player. We can all put up our top 100 lists or whatever, but NBA 2K12 actually gives you numbers.

Last season, Kevin Durant was a 91 and Russell Westbrook an 81. I felt like that 91 was a little low for KD. This season, he’s improved, but not by much. Via this grainy video, Durant is a 92 on this year’s game with Westbrook jumping up to an 88.

Durant’s the sixth best player in the game with Westbrook coming in as the 10th. When it gets put that way, the ratings don’t seem low at all. Ahead of KD is LeBron James (98), Dwyane Wade (96), Kobe Bryant (94), Dwight Howard (93) and Chris Paul (93). I can’t really argue too much with that.

Ahead of Westbrook after those six is Derrick Rose (92), Carmelo Anthony (91) and Deron Williams (90). Westbrook is actually the highest rated player in the 80s, along with Amar’e Stoudemire (88). Dirk is just an 85, which is entirely messed up.

As for the rest of the Thunder, Serge Ibaka is a 75, James Harden’s a 74, Kendrick Perkins is a 71, Thabo’s a 68, Eric Maynor a 64, Nick Collison a 62 and Daequan Cook a 61. The other players rankings weren’t shown.

Granted, I’m a homer that overvalues my own players way too much, but a 75 for Ibaka and 74 for Harden seems way low to me. I mean, Shannon Brown’s a 72 and Jeff Green is a 74. But then again, Marc Gasol is a 73, so it’s just kind of obvious that 2K12 isn’t piling up players with really good ratings.
