VIDEO: Kevin Durant nicknamed himself ‘The Servant’

Kevin Durant joined Bill Simmons on The B.S. Report from New Orleans and they talked about, you know, basketball and stuff.

First off, when does Russell Westbrook come back?

“Next game, right after the All-Star break,” Durant said. “Against Miami.”

That’s fun.

Simmons also tried to figure out what’s different about KD this season. And Durant was adamant. “Nothing.”

I think Durant’s grown a little tired of people going, “Whoaaaa! He’s playing so good! What’s different?” when in reality, it can mostly just be explained in the number of possessions he’s been using without Westbrook. Again, what’s been so impressive about the stretch he had was the fact he was able to take more shots while increasing his assists as well as not just maintaining his efficiency, but adding to it.

But I think the point Durant’s trying to make is, don’t bow down to me now when I’ve basically been doing this exact same thing the last three years.

Another thing: KD gave it up big time to the king of the pencilstache, Kevin Ollie, crediting him for “changing the culture in Oklahoma City.” It is something that’s been a staple of Thunder teams since the move. There’s always a quality veteran there whether it was Etan Thomas, Ollie, Royal Ivey or now Derek Fisher.

Finally, Durant was asked about Slim Reaper. But he has his own nickname he came up with.

“You can call me ‘The Servant.’ I’m a servant. I just like to serve everybody. My teammates, the ushers at the game, fans… I thought of that last night,” he said. “I know it’s kind of weird to make your own nicknames up, but I like that one better.”
