Cameron Payne won’t have surgery; out at least 6-8 weeks
Cameron Payne appears to be rolling the dice. He, along with the Thunder, have decided not to have surgery on his fractured right foot, instead hoping it heals on its own over the next 6 to 8 weeks.
“Over the last several days, Cameron has had consultations with multiple specialists to determine the best course of action to treat his right foot injury,” Sam Presti said. “Based on these consultations and the options provided, Cameron has chosen to pursue a non-surgical route provided by the physicians that is intended to ideally allow the bone to heal on its own and avoid surgery.”
But here’s the kicker from Presti:
“Cameron, his representatives, and the Thunder fully understand that if the bone is not healing appropriately, or if at any point there is a setback in his return to play, surgery may still be required. He will be re-evaluated in 6 to 8 weeks.”
So Payne could have a setback, or if it’s not healing right, have surgery anyway. He’s clearly trying to minimized his time missed while also possibly putting a lengthier time off the floor in play.
Consider the Thunder’s luck with injuries the last few years, I wouldn’t hold your breath here.
