The Suns dismantled a thin Thunder side in a game that seemed to flip the script at halftime. Coming into the game, the Thunder were without Danilo Gallinari, Steven Adams, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Nerlens Noel, and Dennis Schröder. Yes, you read that right, the Thunder did not have it’s top 5 rotation guys in the lineup.
Early on, the Thunder had a lead that ballooned to 15 points midway through the second quarter. When DeAndre Ayton checked in, the Suns found their groove. Behind Ayton and Devin Booker, Phoenix crawled back into the game by halftime. In the third quarter, the Booker show hit prime-time. He hit a flurry of threes, one that included a 40-foot heave. And thus, the door was closed on the possibility of a Thunder win. It was garbage time by eight minutes left in the fourth quarter.
With the blowout loss to the Suns, the Thunder fall to 3-3 in their six games in the NBA bubble. The Thunder’s next game is Aug. 12 against Eastern Conference rival Miami.
