Kendrick Perkins accused of punching a woman in Houston
Kendrick Perkins, who lives in Tomball and plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder, posted a $1,000 bond Thursday morning on the misdemeanor assault charge.
His brother-in-law, Quincy Alpough, faces the same charge.
According to court documents, the incident happened back in July outside the Nox nightclub in the 4700 block of Nett.
The case was initially dismissed, but Perkins and Alpough were charged when it was re-filed.
The incident happened in July, but charges were re-filed. The entire story according to court documents is there was a fender bender outside a nightclub and the woman got out to talk about it and a woman from Perkins’ vehicle jumped out as if she was “ready to fight.”
Cotton said she calmed the woman down, but then Alpough got out of the car and pushed her stating, “That’s my cousin!” When Ja’Keenan Cotton saw his sister being pushed, he got out of the car to check on her. He told police Perkins, a passenger in the other car, punched him in the head, causing him to fall to the ground.
Cotton said Perkins then punched her in the face with a closed fist, causing her to fall down. Catherine McGrue, who was in the car with the Cottons, said Alpough struck her in the throat with his elbow, knocking her unconscious.
All three victims say a group of people then kicked them repeatedly while they were lying on the ground. Ja’Keenan Cotton recognized Perkins and Alpough, according to court documents.
At least one witness backed up their story.
The Thunder released the following statement from Sam Presti: “We were made aware of the allegations and take this matter seriously. We are in the process of gathering more information and have no further comment at this time.”
Perkins was also arrested in 2011 because of a separate fight at a nightclub but charges were dropped.
Of course this comes just a few weeks after the team released guard DeAndre Liggins because of an alleged domestic violence issue where he punched his girlfriend. So a somewhat similar precedent has been set. Though beating up your girlfriend in front of your two-year-old son and getting in a scuffle in a parking lot are quite different. Not good at all, but I wouldn’t jump to conclusion and extrapolate that because Liggins was waived, so will Perkins.
