Kevin Durant out 7-10 with hamstring strain
It’s happening again.
Kevin Durant will miss at least 7-10 days with a left hamstring strain, the team announced. Following that, he’ll be re-evaluated.
Durant suffered the injury late in the second quarter against the Wizards on Tuesday in the Thunder’s 125-101 win. After a hard drive to the basket that resulted in a foul, Durant landed awkwardly and immediately grabbed at his left leg.
“After that foul, I came down a little awkward and landed on it a little harder than I wanted to, and it pulled,” Durant said after the game.
Durant had an MRI on Wednesday that confirmed the injury. As for who replaces him, it could be Kyle Singler, who filled in to start the second half against the Wizards, but it probably will be Dion Waiters, who was actually supposed to. Billy Donovan said Waiters was tabbed to start the half, but was a no show out of the locker room because of some “stomach issues” and so Singler started.
The Thunder play five times over the next 10 days, against the 76ers, Celtics, Grizzlies, Pelicans and Knicks. A pretty soft spot in the schedule, so potentially not the worst thing in the world.
Though of course it’s a bit unsettling to start down this path with Durant once again.
“It’s unfortunate, but it’s a part of the game,” Durant said. “Can’t hang my head. Just got to work to get back. I’ve been here before. It’s just a small injury, but I’ve been here before. I ain’t going to quit. I’m not going to give up. I’m not going to be upset. It’s just a part of the game.”
